Necessary Laptop Upgrade

Strengths: Pretty fast, high capacity, 8MB chace, low noise, not too expensive, 5 year warranty

Weakness: Not easy to upgrade by yourself

Just replace my 30GB 4200 RPM in Dell 700m to this drive. I'm pretty satisfied although I think significant speed increase is more from 7200Rpm drive instead of 5400 Rpm drive. However 7200 Rpm drive only have 100GB highest capacity and 20 GB really make a difference. 160GB momentus has a big price difference with this drive in which I think can buy another 60GB hard drive to place in portable housing.


Now the upgrade is not that easy. You have to buy an external 2.5" casing, and download program to clone the previous hard drive. Place the new hard drive in the portable case, format it using windows disk management utility. After that use the program (I use acronis true image) to clone the hard drive. Finish cloning, you have to remove your laptop hard drive and replace it with the new one and you have upgraded your laptop. Overall process is about 4-5 hours.

Well now I can make home movies on dvd with the new hard drive and I'm happy.
