Logitech QuickCam Express Webcam

Strengths: Price, Picture Quality, App SW is easy to use.

Weakness: Compatability

I purchased two Logitech QuickCam Express Cameras for my computers.

I had no problems with my HP Pavilion 7920 or HP Pavilion 8766C, both of which run Windows ME. The picture is good and the applications are easy to use. It also works well with Microsoft's NetMeeting. They access the internet via cable modem, so internet operation is no problem. Don't know how the cameras work over dial-up for live video chats.

I had problems with my HP Pavilion 6356 which has an AMD K2-6 333 MHZ CPU, 128 MB memory and runs Windows 98. The Logitech web site said there was a known problem with the SIS graphics chip set used in this 3 year old comptuer. I found this out while trying to get the camera to work. I eventually had to remove it. It worked fine with MS NetMeeting, but the Logitech applications would not operate properly.

It is probably fine for any computer under two years old, but if you have concerns, check the web site for known compatablity problems.

It loaded a bunch of software that I didn't necessarily want and don't know why they were added. The documentation says nothing about them or what I would use them for. It loaded Yahoo Instant Messenger. This one was particularly anoying because it came up on each boot up. I eventually uninstalled it. My ZoneAlarm Firewall says something called Fussion, keeps trying to get to the Interent. I have blocked it.

I would recommend the camera; beware the extra SW.
