Two are better than one

Strengths: Dual cores, lower power consumption.

Weakness: If I had waited 2 months, I could have saved $250! Some programs are not multiprocessor-friendly.

Software that can utilize both cores perform significantly faster. Multitasking with several programs running is also much smoother. However, there are some games out there that do not work well in a multiprocessor system. With some games, you can get around this by setting Processor Affinity to a single processor for the games exe in Task Manager.

Excellent processor

Strengths: - Dual core, 1MB cache per core - Lower thermal dissipation (89W vs. 110W) vs. standard 4400+

Weakness: None

Not much to say, other than this processor has been performing beautifully in my new system for about a month now. (Asus A8N SLI Premium, OCZ 2GB CL2 RAM, eVGA 7800GT) It's important to note that this 4400+ processor (ADV4400) is the lower TDP version of the "regular" 4400+ processor (ADA4400). The ADA4400 has a "thermal envelope" of 110W, while this one has an envelope of only 89W, which for overclockers means more headroom (or less cooling for the same performance). I use a Zalman CNPS7000 Al-Cu heatsink with this CPU, and my external temperature probe embedded in the copper fins has never exceeded 33C, even under medium load. Highly recommended.

Great

Strengths: Super Fast

Weakness: Nothing much

This thing is great. I went from an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ to this AMD X2 4400. It's amazing. I can do everything at once without any slow down. The only slowdown I experience is when I am converting a video to a different format, burning a dvd, checking my computer for viruses, talking to friends on the internet, on websites on the internet, listening to music, and playing a computer game at the same time. If i experience a slowdown during that, ok, i can deal with that since I couldn't do one eight of that with my older processor. This is a great processor and I love it.

Awesome

Strengths: Great multi-tasker; low temp; low power consumption

Weakness: Price still at 200 with C2Ds around. I'm usually more frugal. Rare chip.

If you're a bit computer-illiterate as I am, you might panic once you realize that your computer doesn't recognize the CPU as an X2 chip. If the computer does recognize the CPU as X2, then kudos to you. To rectify the former scenario, you MUST flash the BIOS of your motherboard. (To see if your computer recognizes the chip, go to control panel, performance and maintenance, system. If it says that it's in the Hammer family but the chip is unknown, it means you need to flash your motherboard.) I first panicked, but a simple google search can solve your problems. My computer used to lag a bit only during game loading because I watch streamed TV shows on my second monitor while playing games. However, with this processor, that is a thing of the past. I can't tell if it's faster per se than an AMD 64 3000+ (even though I'm sure it is), but it's definitely a better multi-tasker. Although it's nice, I don't think I can justify spending an additional $200 for this sort of upgrade. Btw, AMD tech support was only somewhat helpful. I received a response after 3 days from submitting my question. That to me is a long time.

Customer service: 3 stars
Price: 2 stars
Performance: 5 stars

Because of the price (4 stars means "would purchase again" and since I don't justify spending 200 as I have mentioned above), I will give this 3 stars.

Satisfied with the Athlon X2 4400+ ADV4400DAA6CD

Strengths: Has all the strengths of the ADA 4400+ but runs at 89 watts instead of 110 and has a wider temperature range.

Weakness: None that I am aware of.

This processor runs cool (about 33C average) with my Thermaltake Silent Boost RX K8 fan and heat sink.

The only performance difference I have measured is that my computer takes about 7 seconds less to start up with this CPU over the Athlon 3200+ that was in this system. (Down from 48 seconds to 41 seconds.) Also there is a sense that having multi applications open doesn't affect the application speed of the program I am working with.

I realize that to take full advantage of this chip one needs to be running Windows 64 and applications that are written for dual core. So I feel ready for the near future.

At present I am running Windows XP 32 on an ASUS A8N-E MB and it is running very stable with the latest Bios upgrade. I do not play any games so I can't comment on how well it will do that.

I paid $447.48 plus 8.85 FedEx next day shipping as I bought this the next day after seeing it on PriceGrabber and doing a little research as to why there were 2 4400+ CPU's listed. I notice the price has gone up but I would still choose the lower power version for the slight difference in cost.

I have not tried over clocking this CPU and just don't feel the need to.

Upgraded from AMD 3200 - Good Descision.

Strengths: Great price = $226. Dual Core compatibility with older MBs. Fast & runs cool.

Weakness: Any fan but stock voids warranty, bigger concern for OC'ers (not me). Most of my programs aren't optimzed for dual core - yet.

I built my system on a budget (under $1k) about a year ago with the intent I could slowly upgrade components to lengthen the life of the computer. This CPU upgrade has been the best so far and install went flawless. Thermal compound is allready on fan and ready to go, flashed the bios and that was it; MB is an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. Stock fan is not silent by any means but is equal to previous CPU fan and I won't bother to upgrade (see weakness) runs idle around 38C and haven't seen it go above 46C.

I run various 3d modeling programs, play HL2/BF2 and burn a lot of DVDs. Knocked a few seconds off startup and all windows based programs do start quickly. DVD burn times are noticeably faster, other than that I really haven't seen any outstanding improvements but I bought this for future apps.

No noticeable improvements while multitasking and on my system while burning DVDs it's still better to leave it alone. HL2 and BF2 (single player - which I've never done before) is running super smooth at highest graphic settings but BF2 online has been bad for me since 1.3 patch and hasn't been tested.

I was hesitant if this upgrade would be worth it but replacing the CPU did gave more performance gain than going from 2GB of ram to 4GB. Very happy with this purchase.

AMD Makes Great Processors

Strengths: Fast, multi-tasking is a non issue.

Weakness: A little pricey. We're paying for their advertising budget as the R&D for the next generation processor is already well underway.

I have had not had any problems with this processor so far. Used a Athlon XP processor prior to this. I can notice a definite difference in speed, although my Athlon XP still does the job on 90% of what I do, this is faster and mult-tasking is a breeze.
Installed with a Asus AN8 SLI Premium motherboard, two gigs of RAM, two SATA 10k Raptors and a BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT PCI Ex video card. Works great.

Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual core

Strengths: Good price now $230 89w vs 110W of the ADA version

Weakness: none so far

Great dual core and have only had a week and first attempts at overclocking seen to be very good. the ADV version is the newer version compared to the ADA version This version uses 89W not the 110W and it can go to 71c ver 65vs on the older version. Price is good now

Great processor!

Strengths: multi-tasking, temps

Weakness: none really, just expected better HSF from AMD

This is a great processor. I wanted it to handle my multi-tasking needs, and it has done a great job. My temps are around 41C under no load, and they get up to 50C under full load. I have noticed a big difference in system responsiveness, which I can attribute to the dual-core. Running Vista RC1, I had a score over 5 for this processor, so it should meet my needs for a good while to come.

The supplied HSF is loud, but does a pretty good job. I was expecting the HSF with heatpipes that other X2's have, but this is something like what came with the original A64 line. Needless to say, I will put an aftermarket HSF on to quiet things down.

I definitely recommend this product, especially with the drop in prices. I don't think you would be disappointed!
