great drive!

Strengths: nice casing light! no need for external power

Weakness: could have a bigger drive esata? firewire?

This drive is very fast. It is much faster than any flash based device for moving lots of files. Flash is a great alternative if you are not moving vast quantities of files or running programs right off the external. This drive is great for transporting large amounts of small files, or videos and music. It is especially nice for photoshop/3d studio artist which work with a many larger files. Having it all in a small case is very productive and handy.

Maxtor OneTouch Mini III Not compatible for Mac as...

Strengths: It seems it would be great for a PC user only.

Weakness: The software is not compatible with the newly upgraded Leopard Software for Mac OS X, even though it says clearly on the box compatible with Mac OS X (10.3.9 or later).

I have had this Maxtor crash on me multiple times and I am having to return it (at my OWN expense) because it is defective. Furthermore, it is still under the warranty period, but I still have to pay to ship it. My MacBook meets all required specs listed, so I feel I was tricked by this product's advertisements and am unable to return it for a refund. In addition, to add insult to injury, I have to PAY to send it back, and the product I'm receiving in return is a refurbished one, with only a limited warranty.

And, lastly, I have to buy packing materials (an antistatic sleeve) to ship it in. I still have the box, labels, and original packaging except for that one sleeve, which I don't know how much it costs - product itself is $2, but I have to register to find out how much it'll be to ship that darn piece of foil... when you can buy 100 of them for $10!

This is not what I paid for and had I known, I never would have purchased this product.

Completely unfair, unsatisfactory, and unacceptable.

Maxtor 60GB Mini -- just what I needed

Strengths: Very small form factor, a snap to transport

Weakness: None

This little drive suits my needs perfectly. It was instantly detected and installed in XP, is reasonably fast, plus it's very light and the build quality is good. If you find it on sale I recommend it.

Great portable external hard drive

Strengths: Solid design, good material, rubber side, no external power required

Weakness: a little bit thick compared to other drives

This drive is made of metal I guess because it feels great and solid, does not like other drives which are made of cheap plastic. The side is made of rubber and easy to hold. The drive is fast using USB 2.0 and no external AC adaptor required as it is powered directly by USB ports. The indication light is also useful. Recommended this product.

A small addition to your techie collection...with...

Strengths: small and very portable, easy to use, and self-explanatory

Weakness: The first backup will take a long time depending on how much stuff you have on your hard drive, but just let it go over night...

I like this little drive and at 60 GB it is the same size as my wife's laptop hard drive. I mean you basically just plug it in and go - the instructions are clear and obvious. It easily fits in the front pocket of my bag for backup on the go.

OneTouch Maxtor 60 GB

Strengths: None so far

Weakness: Not very easy for a beginner which it claims to be. It says all that is necessary is push a button and that's all! Not true!!

I have tried for at least two hours to use this One Touch and have not been able to figure out how to use it. I will have to call for live help or return it. My hopes were high but now I am not sure. I have been using computers for 3 years so it's not as though I am a beginner.
I am adding this 2 days later. Was able to get Maxtor tech support and they were able to help me and with-in minutes my back-up was started. I backed up all that I could and it took almost two hours. Just want to say that Maxtor tech support was very friendly and they told me if there ever comes a time that I need this information that they will be glad to help me

average

Strengths: compact

Weakness: not well made

I really do not like the shape, it is kind of ugly. The side is made of rubber. The included cable is too short The performance is good, quite and fast, immediately detected by Windows XP. Consider the price I paid, I am satisfied with it.

Great Product for great price

Strengths: The Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition offers a large capacity (60GB or 100GB), intuitive and useful utilities, and speedy performance.

Weakness: The Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition is a little bigger and no carrying case for it.

The Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition offers a large capacity (60GB or 100GB), intuitive and useful utilities, and speedy performance. One key button design is good. But the Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition is a little bigger and no carrying case for it.

Portable and Convenient

Strengths: Portability and convenient backup utility

Weakness: Cheap look and probably not very sturdy for travel

It's portable and has built in convenient backup utility. It's supposed to be secure though I haven't tested that feature. It's a good value at about $40 after rebate. It's definitely a good value. Though it looks cheap and is probably not very sturdy for travel.

OneTouch III

Strengths: Easy installation, Y-shaped USB cable for additional power, pre loaded software

Weakness: larger than some other units, one year warranty

Installation of this drive is easy. Software is already loaded and would be easy to use for most. I like the looks of the unit. I wish it had a longer warranty. The unit is fast through a 2.0 usb port.

Pretty good drive

Strengths: Cool design, pretty fast, reliable, small footprint

Weakness: warrenty

I do like this drive. I paid a little more for this than my iogear which I also got a few weeks later. In terms of performance and feel, it's a good buy. However it's a little dated at 60gb. I would consider the brand but with a larger drive. I didn't use the software because I like the plug and play and don't need an automatic feature.

Pretty awesome product with relatively good price

Strengths: Ultra portable, good price/quality.

Weakness: Data transportation speed is kinda slow

This is a pretty good ultra portable drive in terms of quality and price. Good looking but also powerful. I backed up my data with it a lot since it's very convenient to carry it around. The data transportation speed is kinda slow though, don't know if it uses the cypress chipest. In general, a worth buying product.

review about OneTouch III Mini Edition External 60GB...

Strengths: easy to carry, fast transfer rate

Weakness: no firmware, bad appearance

overall, nice portable hard drive, grabber such a deal on BF is a nice thing.
However, there are a lot to improve, maybe a carry case skin, even smaller and lighter, fast speed. As I said, with that price, you cann't ask more

Compact external drive! Fast!

Strengths: Cheap price (during promotion), compact design, solid enclosure, fast speed

Weakness: no

Got this drive during thanksgiving promotion for a cheap price. The drive has an status indicator light which is very convenient. The usb cable uses usb 2.0 which is very fast in transfer speed. The hard drive inside I guess is a 60GB 5400RPM one which is quite fast compared with 4200rpm ones. It is easy to move and portable. Happy with the drive.

Does the job

Strengths: Pretty small, reliable

Weakness: Requires two USB connections to operate

It fully served my expectations as a small and simple medium for transferring files between my computers.
Please notice that in order to get enough power you need two USB connections (cable provided, of course).
It also comes with a backup software that I haven't tried.
I will definitely recommend it.

Weakness: none yet

You don't need an external power supply, easy to set up, pretty good speed on this very portable device, has backup software. USB 2.0. Great for quick loading on the road with little effort. I would recommend this drive very highly as its a great travel partner for on the roadwarriors.

Maxtor OneTouch III Mini 60gb External Hard Drive

Strengths: Sleek & Compact Design, USB 2.0, 5200 rpm, Included usb y cable, External power source not needed!

Weakness: Cheap plastic case

Purchased this external hard drive during a day after thanksgiving doorbuster sale. Price was right (39.99) and I was in need of some extra space. Excellent little hard drive for the price, 60gb was plenty big for my needs, included y adapter usb cable works great with my desktop, anxious to try it on a laptop.

Transferred 30gb worth of files from desktop to hard drive and there was minimal heat dissipating from the drive. Onetouch backup software performs as advertised, and drag n' drop files to f: works flawlessly. Would recommend this product any day, now to see how long it lasts!

Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition External 60GB Hard...

Strengths: Small and USB powered

Weakness: no protective padded case

You may need to use two USB ports on some laptops since one USB port can't provide enough power for the harddrive. Overall a good product very easy to carry around and pretty fast since it's USB 2.0.

Bus powered, light weight and easy to setup

Strengths: Light weight and very easy to setup. Good capacity for someone who travels alot

Weakness: None

I am looking for larger external drive compare to a Flash drive for Powerpoint presentations, I finally decided on this drive due to its size and bus-powered. 60GB is just about prefect since I do a lot of backup at work. It does not come with a padded case which may be a problem with some of us. Software utilities are all inside the drive and very easy to setup. Almost work right out of the box.

Little drive that packs some capacity

Strengths: Good size and weight for road warrior

Weakness: Case has no padding

Got it for a great price, this little drive is great for the road warrior type if you do not have much HDD space on the laptop. Nice weight to capacity ratio, easy setup and comes with a few useful utilities. The unit is bus powered, but with a Y-shaped USB cable. Software utilities are preloaded into the drive which makes live much easier when one upgrades ones laptop.

Great for laptops

Strengths: Small and fast, USB powered

Weakness: I wish I got a larger capacity one!

I bought this on Black Friday to use with my laptop as my IBM X40 was starting to run out of hard drive space. I was pleasantly surprised when Seagate announced that all Maxtor drives would now have a 3 year warranty (the box says 1 year warranty only). So far, it has worked well and I have no complaints.

Decent little drive

Strengths: Small & portable; decent price point; USB bus powered; bundled software

Weakness: Software is not the best; my not work in all laptops (bus powering); lacks a protective case; only 1-year warranty

I buy alot of these portable drives for family and friends. Seems like everybody has a laptop these days, and their hard drives are not big enough. This allows one to store extra data (MP3, videos, pictures) on a take it on the go device, then access that data whenever you plug it into any USB computer. The drive is bus powered, meaning you don't need an external power supply. Some older laptops don't supply enough power on the USB, so you might need two usb ports to provide sufficient power. Maxtor includes a special Y-cable with two usb connectors to allow one to do this. Might be an issue if your laptop does not have to adjacent USB ports! I had no problems with the several laptops I tried.

The bundle this drive with alot of software, but I'm not big on loading bloated software on my PC. Besides, I already use other backup utilities, so didn't need it. One feature with the software seemed nice, which was encryption of the data on the drive. I'm skeptical of this, because what do I do if there is a crash of the drive? While I might be able to recover data with data recovery software, this won't work if the data and the encyption program are on the crashed drive. If you do need backup software, this Maxtor does provide it, which is nice.

The drive really is small! I only wish it had a protective case, as it will certainly get scratched up.

As is typical with these external drive, only a one-year warranty! So be sure and buy with a credit card that doubles the warranty!

Great value if you can find it on sale.

Maxtor One Touch III Mini

Strengths: Size factor, Maxtor name

Weakness: Documentation/user manual

I bought this for my daughter who recently had to replace the hard drive on her laptop. Fortunately the hard drive was under warranty, unfortunately it was not backed up and all was lost. This mini is perfect to back her laptop, especially the important photos that can't be replaced. Price factor, size, Maxtor name, ease of use, you can't go wrong.

Perfect for my laptop

Strengths: Small, light, easy to use.

Weakness: Just got it two days ago, so far so good.

I wanted a portable external HD for my laptop and this one was the perfect fit. Nice design, I keep it in my briefcase, and very quiet, too. Very satisfied so far.

Good portability

Strengths: NO additional power needed. Sleek design. Additional Software included.

Weakness: no ac adapter included in case that one usb port can not power it and there is no additional usb available. However, the ac adapter can be purchased separately according to the manual.

The hard drive is as that one would expect from a portable hard drive. My friend is loving it. The speed is 5400RPM, which is much faster than a 4200 rpm hard drive.

Good USB Drive

Strengths: fast drive: 5400 rpm small very light

Weakness: plastic case no pouch/bag

The hard drive is pretty quick at transferring files. It's portable and light. The case design looks good, the bad part is that is plastic and doesn't feel like heavy duty plastic. Drive comes with a Y-USB cable which has the standard usb mini connector. I used my digicams single connector usb cable and had no problems powering the drive (desktop). Drive also has a mini power connector, but doesn't come with any power cord. I would recommend this drive due to its performance and great price after rebate when purchased.

a low cost portable solution

Strengths: low price after rebate; small size; light weight; usb2.0 provides fast read and write speed.

Weakness: none so far.

I got it for a low price after rebate during black Friday. After several days of using, I am very pleased about its performance. Having this 2.5 inch portable drive means I don't need to lug the external harddrive enclosure and power adapter around. This portable drive is small enough to fit your pant pocket and is also very light.
In the instruction manual, it does say sometimes you need use two USB ports to power the drive. I found it is enough to use just one usb port on both my dell desktop and laptop.
It is a good product and at this point, I will recommend it anybody as long as you could find a good deal on it.

Maxtor OneTouch MiniExternal 60GB Hard Drive - Great...

Strengths: Great design, small and compact, very easy to setup and use!

Weakness: No real weaknesses, only down fall is I wish it had more storage.

Overall a very good product, compact design, easy to use and well worth the price. I found the drive easy to setup and I do not notice it on my desk. I have also used it to transfer files to my laptop!

Easy and compact design

Strengths: handy and very comapact design, good capacity

Weakness: so far none.

This product is really good in my opinion. worth your money and you get what you paid for. with 100 gb version avaialble, but i think this is still a good price for a reasonable capacity hard drive.

Handy to Have, Easy to use

Strengths: very compact, easy to use

Weakness: There is a format feature that is NOT showing up like the manual says it will. Technical service is not very helpful..just basically saying..try this instead..they didn't explain WHY the function is n

This is a good product. I purchased it after reading several good reviews. I am not technical minded and it is very easy to use. The only thing I don't like is that it didn't come with any help..you have to go online and access a manual and that isn't even very detailed.

Nice looking Protable HD Drive

Strengths: Light case compact size

Weakness: No optional AC adapter port Need two USB ports No carrying case

This is a nice small USB protable hard drive. The material of the case looks heavy but it indeed very light. This drive comes with a USB Y cable to provide power for the drive via connect one more USB port. But I got some problem because my Powerbook G4 separate the USB ports on both side of the laptop so I can not connect this Y cable on it without adding the USB HUB. Besides, I really hope they attach the carrying case of the drive so I don't need to search around a proper case for it.

Maxtor's 7.2-ounce mobile hard drive, the OneTouch III, Mini Edition, earns high marks for its sleek aesthetics, ever-welcome OneTouch button, and blissfully simple software. The drive won't set any speed records, but this product is meant for backups, not blazing fast video editing work...
