MicroPac CRW-EXT USB 2.0 Flash Reader

Strengths: versitle and inexpensive.

good product. Very small form factor. worked as expected. Assigns drive letters to it's varoius card slots. If you have many mapped drives, it may run out of drive letters to assign.

It works!

Strengths: Very Plug-n-Play.

Weakness: No Instructions. You are supposed to be smarter than the product to use.

This product works as advertised. It will read over 52 memory cards and looks like a hard drive on your computer. My advice is to put the memory card in before connecting to computer. You put your card in -- And there are no instructions -- I took several minutes trying to figure out which slot my card went into. It was not easy. I kept trying to plug my memory card into a slot that looked like it was the one for my card but turned out not to be right. Then I finally figured it out. Once I plugged it into my computer -- my computer immediately recognized the card as a hard drive and it worked. And it worked great!

There is a reason this one is cheap

Strengths: None

Weakness: Didn't ever work, did weird things to computers.

Bought two of these from Surplus Computers (good store, BTW)
Neither of them worked. Tried them both on three different computers, did strage things to all three. Everything from locking the computers to locking the programs that tried to access the card reader to extreme slowdowns. First card readers I've used that flat did not work.
Long story short, don't buy this one.

Nothing works but power light

Strengths: the description

Weakness: that it doesn't do what the description says

Got this new for Christmas. The power light works when plugged in, but nothing happens with any memory card type. My other card readers work fine. This one is defective, but what do you expect for $8. Advice, spend a few more bucks and get a brand name product that has a better chance of delivering what it promises.

52-1 FLASH MEMORY READER/WRITER

Strengths: Installs and performs as expected. Windows XP saw the hardware and installed the software for this item. The system recognized the ports as drives and assigned a letter to them.

Weakness: So far I have found none.

I would recommend this product to anyone wanting a reader writer. The 52 types of flash memory cards it reads pretty much services most all of those currently manufactured. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to add a USB ported memory card reader writer. The price speaks for itself.

Great Price / Grat product

Strengths: Very compact, portable good looking design. Has read every card we have.

Weakness: None so far

Extremely inexpensive device that works well. It has had no problems reading any of the various format cards we have. Also has had no problems with mac and windows machines recognizing it. Overall a very solid product.

Cheap but useless card reader

Strengths: Cheap

Weakness: Never worked

I first plugged the card reader on my laptop. Laptop recognised USB ports immediately (e: f: g: h: etc). But when I insert SD card in the reader, error message displayed showing it can't read card. I verified that SD card functioned well in my camera, replugged back, still the same error message. I changed a memory stick, the reader gave the same error message, "can't read the card". Then I tried the card reader in my PC, same result. The reader can't read/write SD, Memory Stick (card problems ruled out). I gave up and just throw the cheap but useless card in the room corner. Don't buy this junk.

Doesn't Work

Strengths: None

Weakness: Doesn't Work

I tried this device on three different machines and it didn't work on any of them. On the first two, I could get the computer to recognized the device and install the drivers that are part of WinXP Pro, but when I tried two different compact flash cards (San Disk Ultra II 2 Gig), neither of them could be read. When I tried this device on a third computer, it started causing other USB devices to disappear. I had to reboot the computer to get them back.

I am disappointed in Sabrent. Their older model SBT-CRW42 got rave reviews from a friend who had searched long and hard for a good card reader that would accurately read card contents without corrupting the data. The SBT-CRW42 reads the compact flash cards I was using without any issues. Too bad it is no longer being sold in favor of this useless model.
