RUN SILENT-RUN DEEP

Strengths: Just installed it...IMPORTANT...look for Drive Part No..0A31619....this is the Enterprise Drive...5 yr warranty...confirm serial num. to Hitachi support before opening bag...FAST runner...

Weakness: boot up in feature tool is a PITB....not enough guidance about the features in the feature tool....google questions before..CLICKING mouse...understand before you move...IE-Spread Spectrum Clocking

it really runs quiet for a 500GB with all those platters spinning..I am running off a PROMISE SATA300 TX4302 controller card since my MOBO doesn't drive SATA-II(3GB/s)...will update in a few months...

Hitachi E7K500 500GB Hard Drives Excell In RAID 0...

Strengths: Quiet even during hard data seek/read/write performance; very fast, very, very fast!; performance=more than 270MB/Sec sustained write speed using AJA Kona Disk System Test in a 4x 500GB 1.8TB RAID 0

Weakness: None so far

I bought 4 of these fantastic performing HD's on the recommendation of FirmTek LLC Engineers to populate a SeriTek 4-Bay SATA II RAID enclosure, and I was not disappointed at all...in fact, these quiet, efficient fast SATA II HD's perform in my 1.8TB RAID 0 array at more than 250MB/sec sustained write speed with a full Mac OS X System, applications, and data storage occupying 100GB of the volume. Of course, like other FirmTek products, the SeriTek RAID 0 boots my G5 DC PowerMac, and the Hitachi E7K500's have done everything I've asked of them so far. The E7K500's are perfect for applications where speed is mandatory, and quiet performance is too, as in a recording studio where sensitive microphones pick up ambient HD noise. Even at peak access speeds/reads/writes these Hitachi HD's are virtually silent, no drive clicking and clacking or chirping with the E7K500! I've been using the RAID 0 array to capture live, uncompressed video from my Sony HD camera, and the Hitachi HD's are real workhorses, providing a steady stutter-free capture experience. I'm also using the RAID 0 array for disk intensive Final Cut Express film editing and rendering, and they have excelled at allowing me to get my jobs done without any typical HD issues. The Hitachi E7K500 HD's feature a 5-year Hitachi service warranty also, so no fear of losing out in a year or two if you have a line failure. So far my HD's have proved themselves to be vibration-free, fast read/write performers without any faults that I can find. I think they're a bargain at less than $180 each. I give the Hitachi E7K500 HD's 5-Stars***** for high performance, no ambient HD noise even at full read/write potential, and incredible read/write sustained speeds. I am so glad I bought these instead of Seagate or Western Digital SATA II HD's! They're performing beyond my wildest dreams, and I highly recommend them for enterprise or RAID system applications.
