Altec Lansing IM9 System for iPod

Strengths: Altec Lansing sound quality - better for outdoors than indoors. (Slight hiss)

Weakness: Handle could have been better designed.

Hard to justify spending more on a more expensive unit such as Bose, after you hear it. Built very solidly and comes with carrying case. Perfect for use at picnics and at the pool.

Great for use in home or on the go.

Strengths: Very good sound quality. Simple and compact.

Weakness: Stand on the back of the device seems a bit flimsy.

I've been really happy with the IM9 so far. I've been using it for about a month now without any problems. The sound quality is very suprising for its size. I've listened to a number of these portable ipod speakers and this one not only sounds the best but it is extremely portable and durable. One of the features I like the best is that the ipod sits inside of the device in what acts like a tape deck. As opposed to some devices in which the ipod is very exposed and easily jostled.
All in all, a great buy. Definitely worth the money.

Altec Lansing inMotion 9 (IM9) Portable Audio System for iPod

Several years ago Altec Lansing introduced the first portable audio system designed specifically as a companion to the iPod, the trendsetting inMotion. Since that time they have expanded their range of offerings to ten, which must be a record of sorts. One of the newest is the inMotion IM9, the subject of this review.
