Genuine Canon SD800 battery pack NB-5L review

Strengths: Genuine Canon battery; holds charge for very long time if not used, when used it holds for at least 250 pictures with flash and LCD screen on; Included protection cap for battery when it is not used.

Weakness: None.

I highly recommend to purchase a second battery for your camera, I am taking mine Canon SD800 underwater (with a underwater housing WP-DC9, sold separately), so I am prepared for it with - 2 memory cards (4 GB each and 2 genuine Canon battery packs). These are not AA batteries that you can buy on the go, get additional pack for the great shots to come. Have fun taking great looking photos!

NB-5L ----Good battery

Strengths: Long lasting

Weakness: Pricy

I like to keep a spare battery for my DC, especially on trips. I prefer a battery from the original manufacturer, which has the original good quality. Off-brand replacements are usually one grade worse.

Impressively long-lasting battery for SD700 IS,...

Strengths: Charge does not take too long (+/- 2hrs); lasts forever-long in my SD800 IS; none-too-big for storage in appropriate camera case or bag.

Weakness: Somewhat expensive compared to regular alkaline batteries; no clear idea from packaging about length of warranty or extent of its coverage.

Even though people generally tend to complain about proprietary batteries, I've found that in this case the NB-5L is a pretty good deal, assuming you can purchase it in the mid-to-low $30 range. For light usage, I've had the battery last a week with no downtime (and I charged it only then because I had some events to shoot and not because the camera was indicating "low battery"). I actually own two of these little guys and plan on employing a "swap-and-charge" tactic during a trip to Paris in the coming months. Ultimately, the NB-5L is lightweight, it charges quickly for this type of battery, and it lasts much longer than I expected considering my level of camera usage. Did it cost? Certainly, but it's a fixed and one-time price to pay. Would endlessly inserting two AA batteries after every twenty shots cost less? To me, it is just not worth the continuing expense.

Canon battery

Strengths: Very compact compared to my last Canon camera. It took a charge quickly and works longer than I expected.

Weakness: None that I have found yet.

I am about to go on a big trip and wanted to have a backup battery for my new camera so there would be no battery issues. I went with a genuine Canon battery even though it was more expensive because the generic battery I had with my last camera didn't function that well.

great battery

Strengths: versatility, long life

Weakness: price

This battery lasts as long as the original battery for my SD850. I can go days taking many pictures before I need to recharge it. Having a spare battery allows me to quickly switch to a backup and continue to take pictures. Highly recommended for anyone using an SD 850 camera. If you shop around you can get a genuine canon battery and not a cheap knock off for about $40

NB5L

Strengths: OEM / long lasting / plastic protective cover

Weakness: Pricey

The battery itself is an OEM and it comes with a price tag ($$$) - but the battery will perform flawlessly - and a second (3rd in my case) battery is a must - if you go on an all day trip (with no possibility to recharge) and you like to take a lot of pictures - this is your "save the day" pack.
Very efficient - highly recommend!

NB-5L Li-ion Battery Pack

Strengths: Great

Weakness: None

This replacement battery works like a charm. Great to have an extra along especially if you are traveling. It is sleek and light weight, no inconvenience to bring with you. It is 3.7V 1100mAh and comes with a five year warranty. Shop price since there are a lot of options of where to buy!

Canon brand and made specifically for my camera...

Strengths: From the people who make make camera so of course it works great. Charged in the alotted time and works well.

Weakness: None.

I was going to buy an OEM version but I wanted my camera to perform at its Optimum level. You can't go wrong buying the battery from the camera maker. No regrets here.

Awesome battery

Strengths: Last longer than the original canon battery, efficient

Weakness: None

This battery is really necessary for trips. I cannot remember how many times the batteries die on me because Canon does not make a gauge of battery juice left in the lithium. Having this back up is a must for anyone with a Canon Powershot.

Canon Battery for Canon Camera

Strengths: Brand name product from original equipment manufacturer: no need to be concerned with compatibility or safety.

Weakness: Expensive. It costs around $40 to $50 in stores. I got one at a "good" price of under $30, which is still quite high.

A spare battery is a necessity, not luxury, for digital camera, especially on trips. Small cameras often require special batteries from the original manufacturer, which translates to high price. Although off-brand replacements are sometimes available at lower cost, I would advise against it for compatibility and safety concerns. The latter should not be taken lightly, since many chargers are designed to charge the lithium-ion battery at a high rate, and one really does not know how these off-brand replacements were made. My advise is to stick with OEM parts and shop for bargains.
