Well, I tried this camera for some video conferencing and chatting and the picture quality is just terrible in low light conditions. The frame rate is also jumpy. The stand is not very stable at all or universally fit for everything. I do not recommend this at all. Purchase the STX model instead which is sometimes in this price range after rebate.

Logitech quick cam chat

Strengths: price

Weakness: Poor quality audio and video. Tiny microphone.

I am disappointed in the product because of the poor video and audio. Family members tell me it is grainy video and distorted audio. I upgraded the software and even improved lighting in my room.

Strengths: easy to install and use. Good for a beginner web cam user.

Really like the web cam. Got it to keep in touch with family. Advanced IM experience. Really like it. Would recommend this to other users who know little about web cams.

Logitech Quickcam

Strengths: Compact size, Reasonably priced

Weakness: Average image quality

Quite an average quality webcam. If the light is bright, images may appear acceptable. But in general not a great picture quality. I guess it may be worthy of its price, which is really good.

Not Logitech-Quality

Strengths: Size, Universal clip, included headset, price

Well, I had the Logitech Quickcam Messenger for 3 years, but when I saw the price for this camera ($2.50 after all rebates) I could not resist. But I guess, you get what you pay for. On the improvement side (moving from Messenger to Chat), I can now place the camera on my LCD Screen which is nice. But be careful, depending on your screen, the clip is not designed perfectly. It will stay on top of the screen, but any slight forces could cause it to topple over.

I also like the size of the camera- smaller circular orb, base is smaller, and it is easier to adjust angles. Something that I was a little unhappy with at first was the fact that there is no microphone built into the camera. Just another thing to plug into the computer. But the provided microphone does a good job. The audio quality is actually better, because the microphone is not picking up every little noise- just you speaking. The earbud I tend not to use, because they fall out of my ear, but thats just me.

The worst part of this camera, which lends its name to the review title, is the image quality. Unless you have very good lighting, the image quality is sub-par. I would have thought that a camera that is three years newer will have advancements in imaging technology (despite an equivalent price) but that was not the case. So if you plan on buying this, make sure you will use it in a bright area.

As well, the software in Windows XP was slightly screwed up, despite being the normal Logitech Quickcam software. For some reason, the icon refused to disappear from the notification area. Plus, the software it comes with is pretty bare-bones. I think I liked the old ImageStudio more- you could make stop motion animation, set up a motion detector, etc.

Lastly, it has a little green light on top to tell you when it is recording. That is nice- something not present on the Quickcam messenger.

Overall, there are a lot of improvements in this camera, and amazing for the price. But you pay in terms of image quality.

nice looking design for a good company's base model...

Strengths: design/styling, sturdy adjustable bracket

Weakness: image quality could be better

So, the basics-- sturdy adjustable bracket, nice polished finsh, light so you know it's working, adjustable software modes. Logitech is a great company--good support (I also have a harmony remote). Image quality is decent--of the three webcams I have, I'd rank this one second--price and quality are directly related here. I paid $25 for the one I have now b/c I needed it right away, but I'm just about to go to local electronics store where they have $20 of rebates, bringing the price down to $9.99. So, if you can get it for $10-$20, go for it! Skype and MSN "certified"/recommended, but I have not tested that yet...

I Hate this cam

Logitech Quickcam Chat

Strengths: Cost very reasonable. Adjustable bracket. Easy installation. Comes with headset.

Weakness: Image quality is ok. Average software. Dark picture in low light. Fixed lense.

Basic webcam, as an entry level quickcam this one is not bad. Works with most Instant Messenger programs. Takes video and still. Quality is fair for the price. Will need to turn lights on in the room to get a better picture – this is not unreasonable. Installation was very easy. There was a newer version on Website and it installed from there automatically. Overall ok. Will use to chat with family and friends. For basic use, not a bad buy.

good camera for the price

Strengths: easy setup. very easy to use ... detect right out of the box

I enjoy this camera very much, since it's an upgrade from the older logitech webcam. This is a good one for its price. if you are looking for a basica cam, I would definitely recommend it.

Cheap but....

Strengths: Cheap

If you are looking for a cheap beginner webcam, go ahead and buy it. Otherwise avoid at all cost. You'll probably end up buying a more expensive better one.

This is just a basic video camera

Strengths: Made by Logitech, come with a headset, cheap price.

Weakness: Image quanlity is just so so, and the software is not good.

The quality is not good. I bought it just because of the cheap price. Well, I don't expect it to be a very good one. The color is not sharp. If without much light, it is really painful to use this one. Anyway, I don't do online chatting quite often. I can stand with it.
Nice suggestion, go buy other higher price cameras if you want better performance.

Strengths: Price is good

Weakness: Image quality is so so

The price is very good for daily use. The color is not sharp, a little bit yellow. Anyway that is what you can get for about 20$. The installation is so simple, I believe everyone can have the software installed without any problem. Logitech is also a big name that you can trust.

Weakness: You pay waht you get...

The reason I bought this camera because there was a buy-one-get-one deal for $30 at CompUSA. I wasn't expect the quality will be good; however, it's really lower than I expected. I'm still struggling in whether return it or not due to the low resolution and the do-not-use-me-at-nite-or-just-turn-me-off MSN video function. Besides, the so called universal stand won't fit on the laptop well.
The buttom line, buy it if you can get buy-one-get-one deal.

Ok web camera for basic uses.

Strengths: Not expensive, easy to install, compatible with MSN and Yahoo Messenger.

Weakness: Just ok performance, good light condition is needed.

You get what you pay for. This web camera is not expensive, and thus you cannot expect too much. As far as I can say, the performance is enough for daily chatting. More light is needed, otherwise the picture is dark.
Considering the price, I am satisfied with it. If you wanna a good performance one, go for the high price series, such as Logitech QuickCam Pro Series.
