Great CPU for the low to mid end PC

Strengths: Fast! Uses less power than Socket939 counter part. Fairly good price.

Weakness: L2 cache got axed by half.

The CPU does a fairly good job for just about everything, from surfing the net, playing games, act as a DVR...etc. Granted, it is not the fastest Athlon64 X2 that AMD has to offer, but for casual gamers, it does more than enough when combined with a decent video card. With improvements, the CPU have lower power consumption than its Socket939 counter part, however, L2 cache got reduced to 512KB per core. The CPU runs fairly cool under heavy load, even with stock heatsink and fan. A year ago, the CPU was at fairly decent price for its speed and power consumption. Although it is not as fast as Core 2 Duo clock for clock, but after aggressive price cuts throughout the months, the CPU becomes great deal again.

For those looking to build a media or compact PC, the CPU should be more than enough for the tasks.

Excellent Dual Core CPU for the Price

Strengths: Dual Core CPU. Fast enough that it'll last most people for several years. Excellent price, especially for the performance you get.

Weakness: I haven't encountered any so far.

This CPU is right at the sweet spot for price/performance ratio, and the price has even dropped since I bought mine 3 months ago. It's fast enough to handle most anything you can throw at it (for example Photoshop runs incredibly fast on the system I use this CPU in). Unless you're a gamer that plays the latest and greatest games the CPU's also powerful enough to last you for several years so it's a good choice for those who can't afford to upgrade every year or two. My last system had an Athlon 64 3400+ CPU in it and this CPU just runs circles around it, even though they're not that far off in relative clock speeds. You won't be disappointed if you buy this CPU, at least not until the the current top of the line drops down to the $70-$80 mark.

CPU with Great Price & Superb Performance

Strengths: Cheap, fast, outstanding performance

Weakness: none so far

I can't believe this cpu is so cheap now. If you are still AMD fan and want to keep upgrading without big budget, then this CPU is for you. It is dual core 2.2GHz and 256KB total L1 cache. Also it is very energy efficient with TDP of only 65Watts. Also runs very quite and temps are very low. overall, this CPU is A++

Reliable entry-level dual core cpu

Strengths: relatively low price, stability, good performence

Weakness: little noisy fan, relatively low L2 cache

Cheaper than counterparts of Intel branded Core Duos. Also benefit from the low priced DDR2 memory. A good choice to build a budget dual-core system. Not too much space for over clocking, but still it works stably. Low energy consumption, works well with my old 250W power supply. Good performance, views HD video without hesitation.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ CPU

Strengths: Good Performance, Great Value, Energy Efficient

Weakness: None

The AMD dual core processors seem to be a better value than the equivalent Intel CPUs. This is another good CPU available from AMD. It is fast, runs cool and is energy efficient. The included heatsink/fan is nothing special. If you are a overclocker, you probably want to use a better cooling solution. The CPU works great and I have no complaints.

Good bang for buck!

Strengths: decent performance at a good price

Weakness: stock fan a little noisy

Got this for $60 at Frys and put in a new build, fired up right away and running well.

My case is not the best for heat dissipation and the stock fan is not up to the task. Normally runs in the 40s C, but under heavy load runs into the 50s C. I'm looking for a better heat sink/fan.

Due to the fan, I haven't overclocked much yet, but it looks capable.

Dual core on the cheap

Strengths: X2 core on a hamburger budget

Weakness: Not top of the line

AM2 processors are the beneficiaries of DDR2 ram price drops, and the X2 versions allow you to be ready for when more programs take advantage of dual core processors. The heat produced by these processors are very manageable, so that even budget builds can be quiet and relatively powerful. Excellent foundation for a decent rig. But toss the heatsink and fan.

My First AMD X2

Strengths: Cost, 65W, quiet, Easy to Install

Weakness: None to note so far. Price of this CPU keeps on changing.

My previous CPU was an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2 ghz). Though outdated, it was pretty fast for what I did and made me want to buy another AMD product. This CPU does not disappoint. Getting a 65W cpu was crucial because my Shuttle barebone only had a 250W power supply. Installation was quick and simple. Firefox opened faster than ever! Impressed so far and looking forward to playing some newer games on this (CS Source and eventually SC2).

Sweet processor for a slick price

Strengths: Fast, cheap, low power consumption, quiet

Weakness: Haven't noticed too great a difference from my Athlon64 X2 3800+ 939 yet.

Just got this processor because my brother needed my old setup cause his comp died. Very easy to install. I've been using AMD CPUs for every since computer I've ever built for myself and have never had any problems too major that couldn't be fixed with updates.

Reason why I picked this processor was that it came free as a bundle with my FOXCONN C51XEM2AA motherboard with the NVIDIA 590sli chipset. Coupled with 2gigs of pair Crucial Ballistix DDR2-6400, this setup is a real winner.

works great, runs c0ol

Strengths: fast cheap cool

Weakness: not as fast as others...

I have this running in my HTPC running Vista x64 edition. Plenty fast enough to record and play back Off the air HDTV, videos, etc. You'd probably want something faster for games, though, given the prices nowadays. Still, for a (nearly) silent setup like mine, it's helpful to reduce power consumption/heat dissipation.

AMD x2 4200+ way better than expected

Strengths: relatively low price, energy efficient, super fast

Weakness: overclocking not satisfactory, low cache mem compared to upper level toledo model, included fan not so good (but doable)

I bought this cpu to upgrade from my 1year old celeron D 345 (3.06 GHz), and it's really huge improvement. Since mobo, ram (ddr-> ddr2) are also changed, the huge improvement could be natural, but I think the mostly this cpu plays a really important role. In addition to multi-tasking, it surely does very well for a single job. I think, it's comparable to intel's C2D E6300 or so.
Since I'm not a heavy gamer, I can not say anything about gaming, but sure of fairly good performance considering the other jobs it has been doing.

Fast

Strengths: This 4200+ x2 CPU is 400% faster than my old 2400+ CPU when converting RMVB file to AVI file.

Weakness: none.

This 4200+ x2 CPU is 400% faster than my old 2400+ CPU when converting RMVB file to AVI file. Only 10 minutes is needed to convert a 60 minutes RMVB file though the clock frequency is only 2.2GHz (2400+ cpu frequency is 1.8GHz). I also compared it with Intel Pentium dual core cpu T2080 in my new laptop. From the power on to Vista is loaded, this CPU is at about 2.5 times faster.
