Very solid little mouse

Strengths: Great feature set, accurate laser tracking, very simple to set up, overall very good design, look great, good battery life.

Weakness: A little small, I fear it may be giving me carpal tunnel.

The VX Revolution is probably the coolest notebook mouse on the market as of December 2006. Along with it's big brother the MX Revolution, the VX has the most sleek, striking, and thoughtful design I've ever seen in a mouse. The wireless receiver slips very neatly into the base of the mouse - much more neatly than other notebook mice I've seen.

As for basic functionality, the VX performs flawlessly with great wireless signal reception and very accurate laser tracking. I don't play games so I cannot comment on how it would perform in that environment, but for everything else it's great.

It's the advanced features that really make this mouse cool. First, you can linearly adjust the "clickiness" the scroll wheel using the "microgear" adjustment on the underside of the mouse. This is very slick - you can choose anywhere from a well-defined clicking feel to a completely smooth feel. The scroll wheel itself feels good with it's rubber coating. Horizontal scrolling, which is accomplished by pushing the scroll wheel to the left or right, can feel a little bit awkward, however.

I've found the zoom adjustment, located just to the left of the left-click, to be extremely useful. No more Ctrl+/-! The back and forward buttons, pressed with the thumb, also became useful once I trained myself to remember to use them.

One advanced feature that didn't work out for me very well, in Firefox at least, was the One Touch Search. However, you can reassign the functions of all the mouse buttons with Logitech's SetPoint software. This software is easy to install. It is necessary to run it in the background all the time (using about 14MB of RAM on my system) in order to use the advanced button functions on the mouse. I have found running the software to be undoubtedly worthwhile.

The only negative comment I have about the mouse is ergonomics. The mouse seems to have been designed intending the user to wrap their whole hand around the mouse. However, because the VX is a notebook mouse, it's compact and quite rounded, meaning that if I grip it with my whole palm on it, my whole hand is quite curved, which can become uncomfortable. In order to avoid that discomfort, I hold the mouse sort of loosely and angled a bit, making it a bit harder to access all the special the buttons than if I firmly gripped the mouse. Even so, my hand still seems more curved than with my old Logitech MouseMan, making me concerned about the risk of carpal tunnel. I suppose this is a matter of personal preference, but I recommend trying this mouse out at a store before buying. The MX Revolution may be a bit better in this regard if you don't mind a little extra heft. For this reason, I've given this mouse a 4 rather than 5 star rating.

I recommend the VX Revolution; just make sure you try before you buy.

Construction problem

Strengths: Long distance, great accuracy, battery lifetime is good.

Weakness: Mouse wheel has a rubber band. It becomes loose and obstructs free movement.

This counts for all the Revolutions models:
The mouse wheel has a rubber ring which after a few months becomes loose. The wheel will not run freely anymore and will become useless. Logitech has a great service. They replaced my mouse for another one with the same problem.

Great notebook mouse

Strengths: The transmitter is nice and small (smaller than an average USB drive)

Weakness: The side buttons (which I use a lot) aren't in the best position for my hand. But then again this isn't a full-sized mouse either.

I bought this to replace the corded mouse for my laptop. I liked it so well, a couple days later, I bought the full-sized MX version for my desktop. I use it everyday, and haven't turned it off, nor replaced the batteries, since I bought it a couple months ago.

I have large hands, and I like the fact that this doesn't seem as tiny as other notebook mice I've tried. In fact, a person with small hands could use this on a desktop PC full-time.

I'm not a much of a gamer, so I can't comment on any lag issues, except that I don't detect any.

I do wish it had a case or cover so I can throw it in my laptop case without worrying about the wheel or buttons getting crushed.

Nice advanced mouse

Strengths: smooth tracking and scrolling, very accurate, reliable mouse

Weakness: a bit small for me

Nice little mouse to use on the road. It's small for me as I've got big hands, but not a huge deal as I don't expect to use this all the time.

I don't have many complaints, this is a "futuristic" mouse if there is a such thing. To those who think mouse development is over, think again. I read that using a laser to track is a new technology in mice.

There's a bunch of funky extra mouse buttons that serve different purposes depending on the user (especially in web browsing/scrolling). I was never able to get into using them, even with my previous mouse, but I'm going to try with this new mouse as it could be such a great convenience. It's just hard to get into new habits when I use a computer. I also have the "sister" mouse the MX Revolution which is a desktop version.

I'll update this if I need to in the future as I haven't used it a lot since it's a notebook mouse, but I plan to use it more in the future when I travel.

Best mouse yet

Strengths: - It uses only one AA battery, which lasts for quite a long time. - Lots of programable buttons, hyperscroll wheel is awesome.

Weakness: - It may be a bit on the small side for someone with very large hands. But then again, it is a notebook mouse, so this is to be expected of any mouse in this category.

I fell in love with this mouse as soon as I started using it. I've been using it for over a month now, and can't imagine not using one. Physically, it's the size of a normal desktop mouse (so it's smaller than the bigger fancy mice they have out nowadays). It comes with a tiny receiver which actually slides into the mouse itself for convenient storage while travelling. Ergonomically, it fits great in the palm of my hand. It comes with 7 buttons (including the left and right click buttons). However, the back/forward buttons for web pages are what make this beauty great for web browsing. The buttons are programmable so it lets you set your preferences. For instance I have the zoom in/out button control the volume instead. Also, I use this mouse as a full time desktop mouse and it's worked out great. Definitely not limited by the "notebook" designation. Overall, I highly recommend this mouse to just about everyone out there.

good for occasionl notebook use

Strengths: transmitter is small, accurate, lots of buttons

Weakness: mouse is little small, price

Probably one of the best notebook mice on the market. But, it is not cheap. Also, the compact design is a not made for people with large hands (a little small for everyday regular use). The software works pretty well, that is a big plus (I have trouble with earlier logitech versions and microsft mouse software). The receiver is a well designed tiny USB device. Lots of extra programmable buttons!

Good performer

Strengths: Comfort, zoom feature

Weakness: Doesn't work well on shiny surfaces

Overall I like this mouse. The zoom and search button features are nice and I find it fits my hand well for a notebook mouse. I was surprised that it skips some on my shiny laminate desk surface. I haven't had that problem with other cordless lasers.

Logitech VX Revolution Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Small size, feature loaded, storage compartment for receiver to prevent loss of receiver in computer bag, fast response, comfortable shape

Weakness: None identified at this time

Received my mouse and promptly opened it up for a tryout. I was worried about it's compact design as i have rather large hands but found that it is more than adequate for my needs. It takes up about 2/3rds the space of my old corded Logitech mouse and there is no need to carry a mouse pad or rubber bands to secure cords when traveling. The neat feature I found was the ability to store the receiver in a compartment in the mouse that effectively works as an on/off switch to preserve battery life. The biggest complaint I have was I was unable to determine which way to install the battery even after reading the directions. it is not marked on the mouse and is not intuitively obvious. I ended up installing the positive side towards the back of the mouse and that seemed to work just fine. I give the mouse an A+ for its features and comfort level. Glad I bought it.

Solid little mice

Strengths: Just need one AA battery USB receiver hide in the mice New scroll button

Weakness: Still too heavy in my point of view

I am so glad that I bought this mice for my laptop. It's pretty easy to move and pick up the location very well. I can not feel muich different on the new scroll thing but it really works. You can hide the USB receiver in the mice and the power of the mice will automatically turn off, which is pretty smart idea. However, I hope they can have the bluetooth version one day so I don't need to worry about the receiver anymore.

So, the USB dongle does not use Bluetooth to connect with the mouse? I wonder whether the MX Revolution uses Bluetooth then?

Viva la VX Revolution!

Strengths: Good signal, easy to use, great scroll

Weakness: none yet

Another great product from Logitech. One of the reasons like buying Logitech products is because I've had positive experiences with their customer services. One example: I had a minor problem with a mouse, one of the clickers was hanging up. They asked a few questions and sent me a new mouse the next day.
Anyway, the VX is functioning great in all the things I need it to do, including gaming.

Beware - scroll wheel turns slow (crawl) after 3-4...

Strengths: None after 3-4 months, if you are buying this to get the fast scroll wheel.

Weakness: After 3-4 months, the scroll wheel gets reduced to crawl. SetPoint (driver) is buggy (sends events to wrong windows, say the scroll witing a frame in IE won;t work), and it won't install on Win 2003.

If you survive and forgive the SetPoint software (refuses to install on Windows 2003, sends events to wrong windows, forget about scrolling in a frame in IE, horizontal scroll is a toss of a coin), the catastrophic event is awaiting you 3-4 months down the line (maybe 6 if you don't use it much).

The problem was reported on Logitech support pages, and the only "solution" someone (not their support) came up with was to remove the rubber grip from the scroll wheel, replace it with a putty and paint it :-) Apparently that rubber starts expanding and the casing was built to a way too tight tolerance so it starts rubbing off - kills all inertial force that makes the wheel fast.

Logitech support plays silent, company started reducing the price of the mouse, but honestly no price reduction will do if you have to buy 4 mice per year. Also mouse is very tricky to open and even trickier to close (a few small springs may jump away), so even if someone would make a replacement grip it would be pretty tough deal to replace it properly.

Bottom line - unless Logitech releases new version/model that would have user replaceable wheel (and/or wheel grip), the "Revolution" is dead. Extra problem is that after 3-4 months your fingers get used to the speed, so one is better off not trying in the first place.

Logitech Revolution VX Mouse is useless purchased...

Strengths: any of this unit strengths or heavily outweighed by a major design flaw which rendered the VX revolution to a simple point-and-click mouse which can be purchased at 25% of the cost

Weakness: WILL NOT SMOOTH SCROLL VERY VERY JUMPY THIS PROBLEM IS SO PREVALENT IT renders the Logitech VX revolution useless when reading because he jumps and skips lines/information

second, the zoom function only increases the size of the fonts and will not work on pictures. when compared to the Microsoft notebook mouse which has a magnifier which will zoom both pictures and fonts.

Next, there highly touted hyperfast scroll wheel is simply a weighted scroll wheel that will free spin at high speeds and is just a gimmick that doesn't work.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY A MICROSOFT NOTEBOOK MOUSE MUCH SMOTHER AND A BETTER FEEL I purchased both the Microsoft notebook mouse and the Logitech VX revolution and although the Microsoft notebook mouse may not have as many functions keys it is superior in every aspect of its function and design

the Microsoft notebook mouse scroll wheel feels like velvet in your hands is a pleasure to use

In conclusion, your hard-earned dollars would be better spent on any other mouse on the market there are many design and software flaws and bugs associated with the Logitech VX revolution

wonderful mouse

Strengths: they really know what you want

Weakness: maybe a little bit bigger

I am a big mouse fans, you know, you will feel tired if you use a small mouse, that's why I don't like small mouse, I don't even think laptop mouse should be producted, but we do have some mini mouse fans.
I like this one, it's great, but I hope it's bigger.

Great Mouse!

Strengths: Very comfortable. Precise. Good battery life. Aesthetically appealing.

Weakness: Loud scroll wheel.

This is the most comfortable and ergonomic mouse I've ever used. It looks great and works well. Can't ask for much more precision in a wireless mouse. Love the back and forward buttons for web surfing. If you download the logitech software, it allows you to configure what each button does on a global setting or specific to each program. If you spend a little time setting this up it can really enhance your computing experience.

The only thing is that is a little off on this mouse is the scroll wheel. I'm used to the standard wheel but this one has a free scrolling feature which takes some getting used to. I'm still not 100% sold on it.

Other than that I highly recommend it.

Low quality

Strengths: Extra buttons, receiver hides in mouse when not in use, common battery type (AA)

Weakness: Eats batteries fast, shape could be improved, doesn't track perfectly, doesn't travel well, doesn't seem it will last long

This mouse ate the included disposable AA in 3 days. I figured it was low quality, but view point software says the new battery is down to 65% after only 1 day of use.

I mainly bought this for the extra side buttons since I find I get a lot of use out of them from my old mouse, but this one feels tiny, light, and awkward.

Tracking is off at times. No idea what it could be. I switched surfaces from nylon (zip-up binder) to real mouse surfaces and even a cardboard box and another box with a glossy surface. Also tried moving the transmitter to new USB ports... the glitched tracking goes away after a few minutes. During the glitching, it's really hard to highlight words by dragging, but I've gotten used to using the keyboard now.

I once carried this in my backpack to school and thought the mouse buttons were sticky, but after hearing a snap I found the mouse wheel can get squished down underneath which sort of jams the 2 keys.

Super wireless mouse

Strengths: Very accurate. Tracks extremely well - especially in games. Fits smaller hands very well, but it's not so small it makes your hand cramp like some of the Microsoft notebook mice. Good battery life.

Weakness: Haven't found any yet.

I bought this as an extra for the day when my first one wears out, that's how much I like this mouse. I just love this mouse for gaming. Playing first person shooters where accuracy is a must, the VX Revolution Laser is the perfect solution. Even though they advertise this as a "notebook" mouse, it's not small & cramping like the Microsoft versions. It's somewhere in between a full-sized mouse & the small wireless MS mouse. My hands are somewhat small (medium size glove is as large as I can comfortably wear) & this mouse is a perfect fit.

The best wirelless mouse for laptops

Strengths: Well designed, comfortable, precise and responsive.

Weakness: over priced

The Logitech VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse is well desined for loptops. It is very comfortable to use, the shape of which fits well into hands, providing a firm and comfortable grip with all the buttons seem conveniently placed. It can also be used as a good desktop mouse for small hands.

It is very responsive and precise to navigate the screen of a laptop. It also comes with a multi-purpose scroll wheel, which also allows for side-to-side movement, a function that is very useful for wide documents.

The design of the mouse is well thought out for travelers. The wireless receiver fits into a recess in the mouse, which serves as a switch: jecting the receiver from the unit turns it on and inserting the receiver into the mouse turns it off.

The mouse uses a single common AA batteries. As always, I highly recommend getting a dozens of the NiMH rechargeable AA batteries and a nice charger like LaCrosseBC-900 Battery Charger, which are must are must have items for today's home.

Cute Mouse

Strengths: Size, wireless, good battery life

Weakness: none so far

I bought this for my notebook. It is perfect because the receptor is tiny, not like the one from MX1000 or MX revolution. The size is perfect for my hand. What's more, the wireless receptor can be put inside the mouse. I would highly recommend it to laptop users.

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this product. It's very ergonomic, energy efficient, and the "frictionless" scrolling wheel really comes in handy when you want to scroll through large lists (i.e. a music list) or large documents. It's also not too small - a lot of notebook mice are way too small to use. Since I use my notebook a lot in a "desktop" situation, it's nice to have a substantial mouse.

Great Mouse

Strengths: Responsive touch, ergonomic

Weakness: None

It has lots of customizable button, very pleasing hand feel, the free wheel really works as advertized.

Also, this is a LASER mouse, not just a cheap optical mouse, so the speed and accuracy is all there. As for battery life, putting in a fresh battery the software utility estimated the life at 110 days.

I've been using optical mice since they came out, and this one is by far the best. I highly recommend this mouse. It's well worth the cost.

VX Revolution for $40

Strengths: Precise laser, fast scrolling, comfortable grip.

Weakness: Takes up a USB port, wish it were BT.

I don't know where to begin. This mouse is a much have! I have had it for almost one month now. The only downside is that the USB receiver takes up, well, a USB port. I sometimes with it were BT. The mouse was made to fit the hand comfortably, the laser is so precise and fast. The scrolling is so fast, sometimes too fast. Overall, don't pay retail for this. There are always deals everywhere, you just need to know where to look for. I would post them but PriceGrabber won't let me.

Something about VX Revolution

Strengths: design&appearance, accuracy

Weakness: software

Though I've been using this for just a month, I've got enough ideas about this product. Everything's fine except for the software. Especially the ergonomic design makes you feel really comfortable! Really cool appearance also, cute hole for keeping the usb receiver, nice looking wheel. And the move is perfectly smooth, everything's so good! However Logitech has really poor software! Once you installed that, your wheel becomes really slow, no matter what value you set in the console. It never changes! Once I disable that software and let Microsoft driver to take control, it becomes normal. This is the largest bug, also some other problems with this software. So now I've to use the mouse without the soft. The downside is that you can't use zoom button, and can't adjust every parameters in detail. So if there's deal on this product I would suggest it, otherwise it's not worth its retail price.

The best companion for laptop

Strengths: Laser engine. Design. Ergonomics.

Weakness: none so far.

Mouse of the Future

Strengths: Great features, slick yet durable feel, portable, laser technology

Weakness: Takes awhile to get used to the features, a bit pricey for a notebook mouse

The mouse is definitely the mouse of the future. It has the new laser engine that can basically track on any given surface. Also, unlike the other laptop mice, this mouse is packed with features such as hyper-scroll and high-resolution zoom that you cannot find on any other mouse. It is very well-built by a reputable brand in Logitech. There is no need to think twice about the efficiency of this mouse.

Best Mouse for Notebooks

Strengths: -Small enough for a notebook yet big enough to use comfortably -Battery Life -Built in storage for receiver -Programmable buttons -Scroll wheel can be switched from micro gear or hyper scroll

Weakness: -Takes a little time to get used to -Zoom button hard to push

So far this has been one of the best cordless notebook mice I have used. It is very comfortable to use and it is small enough to keep in your notebook bag. The hyper scroll wheel takes some time to get used to but for users that like the "click" feeling of the wheel it can be changed with a switch under the mouse. The down side is that you need to flip the mouse over to get to the switch if you want to switch back and forth from hyper scroll and micro gear. I have been using it constantly for a month on the original AA battery.

Very Good Portable Mouse

Strengths: Good tracking, fits nice in the hand, smart design with USB stub that fits within the mouse.

Weakness: Could be a little smaller, to fit better in my laptop bag.

I bought this mouse to use with my laptop when I travel to visit customers and to work away from my office. So far I like it a lot. The performance seems as good as my MX1000, and I like getting rid of the cord also at the laptop. The size is a good trade-off between being large enough to be comfortable and being small to fit easily in your laptop bag.

smooth and responsive

Strengths: Effortless to manipulate, yet maintains a sturdy feel and comfortable fit. Precision to be on par with top corded mice I have used and no problems at all with loss of signal.Easy to set up and use.

Weakness: None so far, possibly slight bit undersized as a full-time desktop mouse, but seems perfect for notebook or light to medium desktop usage. Smooth scroll wheel is nice feature but an acquired taste.

Great mouse for the price and features and easily provides best compromise I have encountered for a portable mouse that works well with a desktop as well, easily working its way into a role as my main pointing device. Absolutely no complaints early on and hope the mouse continues to perform, but great first impression.

Excellent mouse, but little big for notebooks.

Strengths: Precision movements, luxurious scroll weel, well designed, retractable receiver slot, uses one battery.

Weakness: Big for using as a notebook mouse(only when carrying), search button is not on favorable place, zoom button is kind of bulky.

This mouse is a excellent mouse. Well built, precision controls. Compared to my previous mouse which is MX610, the 610 was often teleporting and lagging, but this mouse seems to have no problem. I have a 2.4 ghz super g wireless router, bluetooth on my desktop, and laptop, and cell phone which uses 2.4 GHz frequency. This mouse doesn't seem to interfere with them. The search button in my opinion is in the wrong place. It is hard to press the search button after highliting a word. But once I press it, the yahoo search window pops up, sometimes slowly, but I think it is usefull. The zoom buttons are kind of bulky. I use those buttons to control volume instead of zoom, because I never really use zoom (which changes text size larger or smaller) in internet explorer. The scroll, when it is on frictionless mode, works really smooth, but sometimes it moves by itself when I am not carefull enough. The size of this mouse is just about the right size for a desktop mouse use. I don't have big hands like most americans do, so I guess it just depends on preference. I'd prefer smaller mouse size as it is for a notebook. But when I am using this mouse, the size is perfectly comfortable. The tiny receiver is really cool, it slides in right in to the mouse. Would have been really nice if there were a mouse carry bag. This is one of the best mouse I've used! Would like to get one more of these notebook version as replacement for my desktop mouse.

VX Revolution Wireless Laser Mouse

Strengths: Super smooth scroll, ergonomic design, battery indicator, high precision, easy navigation

Weakness: Need to install the software to fully use all features

I just tried this mouse for few days but absolutely love it. I owned Targus & Microsoft notebook mouse previously but they all a little too small for my hand. The size of this VX fits well, my palm is not hanging like when i was using the other notebook mouses. It is just very nicely designed and built.
The scrolling is smooth and the mouse is very accurate. I have yet detect any lag. Although it's being advertized as notebook mouse, this mouse is definitely in par with the best desktop mouse available.
Lastly, the USB key stowing away is a great feature as well. It makes it very easy to travel and use the mouse from one computer to another.
All in all, it's a great product from logitech, well worth buy.

Currently using this mouse with some adobe and 3D modeling/animation (maya, rhino, cad etc) programs, the microgear wheel does help when zooming in and out in some of these programs. Comfortably shaped for long hours of work in these kind of programs which requires heavy use of the mouse. Switched to this mouse from a microsoft laser mouse since I got tired of their USB receiver breaking down after few months of use. Hopefully this logitech one will last longer. Price is the only hold back.
