Microsoft, They Know What They're Doing, Right?

Strengths: The ability to change resolution on the fly is great, especially in first person shooters.

Weakness: Crapped out after 2 months of moderate (adult) use.

I thought, 'hey a Microsoft mouse, at least they'd get the software and drivers right'...wrong. Actually the software is clumsy and takes about 2 minutes ever time you make a change and update the mouse's onboard memory, that wait is painfull.

The real problem is that after using for it for only 2 months it (randomly) causes the cursor to go wherever it feels like. You move the mouse left and right the cursor goes southwest and then northeast. A few minutes later it's back to normal. If you're writing an e-mail to you buddy George this isn't a big deal, but if you're in the middle of a 25 man raid on World of Warcraft it can be very, very embarassing.

After reading other reviews I didn't even bother calling the Microsoft support line, I just chucked the damn thing in the garbage.

Don't buy one.

i thought cool!

Strengths: extreme precision in game

Weakness: after 4 months you throw it away.

well, i read this habu was awesome. i bought the little guy when he first hit the shelves. took him home installed and upgraded the drivers and away we went . la la la la

excellent on the fly handling and dpi switching. i loved hium so much.....

one day he started blinking blue. then he would just shut off and i would have to re-insert him into the computer. then he would make the computer go donk donk donk "usb device not recognized"

well i now decidedthat i needed a better mouse friend (from more reviews) and i am getting ready to mutilate this little blinking mouse. i would like to have him work but i cant deny my dough that i spent on my g5.

sorry little buddy

WORST MOUSE EVER!!!! NEGATIVE STARS!!!

Strengths: way super high precision. blue black theme. adjustable on the fly in two different ways. It makes you mad enough to go outside and do something...like snap tree trunks in half.

Weakness: you must unplug and reinsert the mouse usb cable every time to be able to actually use it after windows boots. Product support is the worst I've ever experienced. set up.

If you don't reboot all the time it's an awesome mouse. Get a different mouse unless you want to f*ck with this one for EVER to get get it to work. Called Microsoft and was on the phone for about an hour "troubleshooting". Finally they tell me MY usb ports are messed up. They're not. Anything else I plug into them is fine. THEIR SUPPORT IS CRAP !!!! GET A LOGITECH.

The Habu is the worst mouse in the universe. I would rather not use a mouse than use this pile of sh-t. I'm going back to my old Logitech and this mouse is going directly in the trash. I'm throwing it away because I would not wish this gem of a mouse on anyone. Just a few more examples of how bad this mouse is:
I would rather get punched in the face than use it.
I would rather drink my own or someone else's p-ss than use this thing.
Just don't buy it!!!!!!

Setup a bit tricky but overall a great mouse!!

Strengths: Blue/Black theme, not too bulky yet has enough buttons

Weakness: Setup

The drivers are very hard to get right the first time. Now they have updated to 2.01 so I believe it should work perfectly now. There are so many customization options available that its confusing. I just picked a setting and got used to it. It slides around super smooth and feels great in your hand. Great mouse overall! 4-stars for being a bit pricey

Habu review

Strengths: Comfortable in hand. Responsive. Sturdy.

Weakness: Drivers not recognizing the mouse. No tilt wheel.

Drivers are shoddy. It won't recognize the mouse therefore can't save settings. Hopefully new drivers will fix this. Software seem highly customizeable. Software has "Razor" as the logo rather than Microsoft on it though. Mouse is comfortable in hand. It has a cool blue light. Very sturdy and has non slip surface. Wheel has good indents as to spin easier without slipping. The buttons on the left (thumb) can be removed and replaced with the included alternative position module.

Great Mouse

Strengths: All the pluses of an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and a Razor Mouse in one. BLUE

Weakness: Extremely hard setup

This mouse is an amazing mouse, once you can get it working.

I really use the two side buttons. That is where this mouse shines. The Logitech G5 is horrible about its side button. It just has one and is placed at an awkward position. This mouse has two side buttons (on the left side), that are placed right where your thumb rests. If you do no like their positioning, there is another replaceable set of buttons that is included. I really like the Intellimouse 3.0 as a mouse. The side buttons on it are at a weird position. The Habu puts these buttons much lower. You no longer have to reach up to use them. Most other "gaming" mouses have weird configurations of buttons. Some have buttons on the right and the left side of the mouse. These are useless on every level, unless you are left handed.

Another thing I use a bunch, is the middle mouse wheel click. This mouse has a pretty good click. The G5's click is the worst one I have ever seen. It requires so much pressure, that you couldn't possibly use it without exerting tremendous amounts of force. The Habu is very different from that. It has a nice medium between too hard and too soft. The wheel also has pretty firm dedents so you don't over wheel. The actual sliding of the wheel isn't like the smooth scrolling ones, but it is smoother than other mouses. This could be a negative, depending on how you view it, but I have gotten used to it.

The rest are just preferences. I like bigger mouses, like the Intellimouse 3.0, with a fatter back than most. This mouse has that. It also shares the same left and right main click buttons from other Razor mouses. They aren't as wide as some of the Razor ones, so they don't get in the way as much.

The only drawback is the nearly impossible install. To get it to work, you HAVE to use the cd that came with it AND download the firmware update.

1. You must run the cd first. Do not run the newest setup program from their website. That didn't work with me.
2. Have another mouse plugged in also while you run the setup
3. Once you install the mouse from the cd BUT BEFORE YOU RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, you must install a firmware update that you downloaded from their website. Installing the firmware update at any other time didn't work. If you do not upgrade the firmware upgrade, the mouse will work, but you will be unable to communicate with the mouse. Once you upgrade the firmware, the mouse works fine.
4. Install the newer mouse programs from the website.

In short, I was looking for a new mouse. I thought about the G5, but realized that mouse is complete crap. It feels nice, but lacks a useable middle wheel and side buttons. I have an intellimouse explorer 3.0 from a couple years ago. I really like that mouse but was drawn to the blue color from this one. If you like any razor mice or the intellimouse, you will like this one.

What a shame

Strengths: Adjustable dpi on the fly (fantastic), colour scheme, size (great for female gamers)

Weakness: Having to throw it away after 8 months use!

And I should probably have chucked it sooner. Does its own thing, cursor goes where it wants, you thump it and it works briefly, then goes back to doing whatever it wants, mouse pointer disappears the reappears miles from where it should be - using it with a razer mouse pad, but when you're playing a game where other people are relying on you, you can't afford to own a mouse like this. Such a shame - fits my hand which most gaming mice don't, as they're too wide - and cost too much to just throw away. But good luck with support...

Razer HABU - mmmm not at that price

Strengths: Great drivers and customization on DPI and polling rate. Gorgeous Look. Wonderful grab and control.

Weakness: it's just WEAK. Too Fragile, Wiring sucks, price too EXPENSIVE.

I was pretty happy in buying a serious wired mouse, after having being left over during several LAN parties because of a batterysucking unprecise 3-button wireless mouse.

Well I should have chosen a better one. I thought the price justified the good quality of the mouse. I was wrong. This HABU is just too weak to be used by a serious gamer. It has the same problem the first MS Intellimouse Explorer had

Great Mouse

Strengths: I love the feel of the mouse, it's very comfortable. It form with the hand well. Not bad for gaming. Programable buttons.

Weakness: None.

This mouse is better than the Razor Copperhead that I have. I purchased this mouse because it has the qualities of both Microsoft and Razor. I didn't like the placement of the buttons on the Copperhaed and decided to give this mouse a try...and what a difference. I like the button placement, and the feel. It has the best of both world. I would recommend this mouse to anyone who wants a wired gaming mouse with the options to configure the mouse.

Kudos for Habues

Strengths: Comfortable design; many programmable buttons; slick and easy configuration software and interface; cool-looking light

Weakness: Expensive; Firmware upgrade process is complicated; Recommended for the most advanced, demanding gamers only

I just happened to stumble across finding this mouse while trying to find a replacement for my old 5-button Microsoft Intellimouse. I am a gamer and was looking for something comparable but with a little more leaning towards a gaming mouse. I knew of Razer's reputation and with them teaming up with Microsoft to make this Habu mouse sounded like a perfect combination. I've used it for about 3 days now and after configuring it and getting comfortable with it, I highly recommend it for advanced gamers those wanting a much more configurable mousing experience. For those that are less inclined to making configurations and saving them, I recommend the Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 which is also about half the price. However the cool light around the mouse will probably make people buy it anyway. :)

Habu is an excellent gaming mouse!!!

Strengths: Nice ergo feel. I feel it is an improvement on the shape of the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. Tracks very well.

Weakness: Corded (I can't complain though because it has never gotten in my way)

I have used a Logitech G5 and G7 for gaming in the past. I thought I would give this mouse a try. I do like the feel of this mouse better. It is just personal preference though because it fits my hand better. I can't really tell a difference in tracking from my G7 (both are very good). It also tracks very well and glides across my Steelpad 5L mouse pad. If the light bothers you, you can turn it off with the driver for the mouse (that was my biggest hesitation on the mouse was that I though the light was pointless).
