Windows Vista Ultimate...Strengths: Much more productive interface, very smooth running, fast execution. Weakness: Operating system minor errors and glitches, mostly minor. Ok otherwise. Windows Vista Ultimate is a very powerful version of Windows; it incorporates to a degree better security, very easy to learn new user interface, and better dual core management. The retail version also comes with a 64 bit cd included with the 32 bit. The only problem with it is its massive taxation of the graphics card and more importantly on the Processor. I have problems running it on my laptop because sometimes it runs the processor to 100% for long periods of time, and my laptop is a high end dell XPS from late 05' loaded with 2 GB ram, 256 mb ATI gfx, and P 3.4ee Intel processor. If you want to run this on your laptop beware, drivers are mostly non existent, most software although claming to be vista compliant using compatibility mode are not stable or do not even run. I still use it a lot but I have a separate hot swappable hard drive for it. As far as glitches "TrustedInstaller.exe" runs frenzy on the processor (100% for long periods of time), otherwise the minor "memory could not be read” errors occasionally happen. Otherwise, it is an excellent desktop operating system. 75% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Win Vista UltimateStrengths: Robust; very stable comparing to previous Win OS; built-in security check against malicious and unwanted software; more attractive graphic user interface; useful windows sidebar; loaded with features. Weakness: Sluggish; need at least 1GB of RAM to run properly and 2GB of RAM to run effectively with many windows and applications opened at the same time; demanding on video card; no support for PocketPC 2002. Upgrading from Win XP to Win Vista Ultimate, you will be pleased with the graphic user interface and stability of the new OS. The features available in XP are now more robust on Vista Ultimate which also has Windows Media Center and Tablet PC built in. However, you will eventually notice the sluggishness of the whole PC system since Vista demands more system resources, especially from the CPU, memory and graphics card. Somehow, MS decides not to support PocketPC 2002 or earlier versions in its Win Mobile Device Center which forces me to keep using Win XP on another PC to install programs and sync data on my five-year old PocketPC to extend its useful product life. If your PC hardware components are not up to speed for Vista, it might be better to keep it running on XP. Otherwise, I would recommend Win Vista Ultimate OS for any new PC system. 75% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Want or Need Vista NowStrengths: Excellent graphics if you have the right video card. Fun switching between windows with the new Flip 3D. Fun and useful gadgets. Great Backup system if you have an external drive. Weakness: Memory intensive, so buy as much RAM as you can. Security questions with almost every application and operation that you run. If you want or need to see the latest OS from Microsoft, get Windows Ultimate, but, if you can hold off, Windows XP will be adequate you for a while. I am sure Windows Home Premium will be okay as well, but you do not get the Backup and Restore feature that you get with Ultimate. Restore from Backup is relatively quick if you have a fast computer and External Drive as is the initial backup. Do not pay dollar for what ever OS that you buy. Compare prices online! 75% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

The best version of Windows yetStrengths: DX10, Aero, Bitlocker, UAC, Good multimonitor support Weakness: Needs a modern PC to run. This is Microsoft latest and greatest and is worth moving up to if you have a modern PC. If you have an ancient one, then you might not want to bother unless you are willing to upgrade it. Most people complain that Vista takes too many resources to run and that is true. But so what? XP used more resources than ME, 2000 or 98. This is how advancing technology works. 75% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Vista UltimateStrengths: Looks, new features Weakness: Price, driver/ software support I've got it for $45 only. The $300 pricetag is really ridiculous, wouldn't buy it for it, better to get XP OEM for $120. 70% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Windows Vista UltimateStrengths: Great interface, easy install, and updates Weakness: Vendors are still scrambling to create updated drivers This OS has a great interface. Love the multiple pane abilities. The Direct X 10 inclusion will be a great addition once more games are made for it. I had no problems with the install, and the automatic updates are trouble free. I wish however that either Microsoft had waited a bit, or other software/hardware vendors were a bit faster at getting the updates for Vista. 50% of readers found this review helpful. Vista UltimateStrengths: Haven't seen much Weakness: UAC impacts the user experience I got this primarily to test our software on Vista. The UAC asks the user to confirm all these actions, which makes our software installation not very smooth. We will have to provide a lot more documents to our users. 42% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Function sacrificed for the sake of Form--If you own...Strengths: Networking features are better than XP. Improved Standby/Hibernate. It's pretty. It's more secure (if being tied up in a straight jacket so you can't hurt yourself can be called that). Weakness: Many. See Comments. This has to be the worst step backward an OS has ever taken. There are several things about Vista that really annoy me, these are just my top-rated ones. 41% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Apr 3, 2007 I agree Vista sucks I had it 3 days and not even the drivers that came wit it work. I have spent over 30 hrs. of my time trying to load drivers. 5 of those hrs. were spent with tech support no sooner than 1 problem would seem to be resolved a new one would pop up before we completely resolved the first. I want it out of my computer.

microsoft always releases too earlyStrengths: very pretty, neat features, nice "borrowed" features from Mac Weakness: incompatible, resource hog, huge file size, useless crap running I ran Vista for about a month. It was fun to have the latest and greatest new toys but the lack of productivity forced me to reinstall WinXPsp2. With Vista being so new many hardware companies have not released drives (and many may not ever release drivers for Vista). 36% of readers found this review helpful. stick with xp or switch to Apple!Weakness: google vista problems and you literally get 50 million links. That says it all! "Easy Transfer" of settings wouldn't work. No driver for my radeon video card so it flickers. In its effort to be user friendly, some basic functionality, like a windows explorer, aren't there 29% of readers found this review helpful. Jan 24, 2008 Have been building computers for 12 years have 3 computers running vista ultimate only problem i ever had was conflicts with video cards always bought ATI(or radion)which is generic ATI,They always have great rebates or lower prices but you get what you pay for!! Their cards video and tv really suck.I was with them for 10 of my 12 years and a friend said try nvida after seeing me strugle with ATI.Now I can truthfuly say i will never buy another ATI card as long as I live.I am a avid gamer and my friends with apples are so mad for not listening to me they have really wasted alot of money on computers with no upgrade compatibility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!By the way i've got 6 ATI cards on ebay real cheap!!

VISTA UltimateStrengths: Great looks - New Features like better networking, improved standby/hibernate Weakness: PRICE of software, some compatibility issues and cost to upgrade computer to run software The $300 price tag is ridiculous, wouldn't buy it for that price. New start menu is seems useful. Looks nice, you can type any application, feature, link in it to start, instead of scrolling through pop-up menus. Almost every part of OS is configurable, so you can turn off some annoying pop-ups. It will depend on your computer configuration whether or not all your peripherals will work at a maximum level. Some with limited configurations if your PC is not up to date with the latest and greatest components on the market. Software works too, even if it's stated as unsupported with some exceptions. The fax/email capabilities is a plus with the ultimate edition. 8% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate is an ideal product...Strengths: Its graphics quality is excellent. Weakness: Little difficult to use. When you want to have it all, including the ability to shift smoothly between the worlds of play and productivity, there's Windows Vista Ultimate. Specifically, Windows Vista Ultimate offers all of the features found in Windows Vista Home Premium, including Windows Media Center, Windows Movie Maker with high-definition support, and Windows DVD Maker. Not only these, there have many more options people can get from Windows Vista Ultimate. Designed to help you feel confident in your ability to view, find, and organize information and to control your computing experience, all editions of Windows Vista introduce a breakthrough user experience. The desktop experience is more informative, intuitive, and helpful. And new tools bring better clarity to the information on your computer, so you can see what your files contain without opening them, find applications and files instantly, navigate efficiently among open windows, and use wizards and dialog boxes more confidently. Let’s have a look some system requirements about Windows Vista Ultimate. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Super OS if you have compatible hardwareStrengths: User Interface, ability to run unix commands, better remote access, ability to create hi-def movies Weakness: Needs an internet connection to validate itself every 6 months, compatibility with older hardware and software.. As I mentioned the OS is super with 3D effects and very good interface. You could even run unix commands. It is more secure. But the major drawback is realetd to the licensing - this needs to be revalidated every 6 months. I had a centrino laptop with 1 gb of ram, but installation of windows vista ultimate nearly used up all resources and I had to revert back to windows XP. But it has been running fine on my new dual core desktop with 2gb ram. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Good feelings overall...Strengths: New and improved UI, seems to respond faster and the Aero Graphics are a welcome addition. Weakness: That bothersome UAC is obnoxious at best, but at least you have the option to disable it. Personally, I feel Vista Ultimate is a worthy upgrade from XP, especially as the disk comes with both 32 and 64 bit install disks. However, Ultimate is not worth $400. I paid about $260 for a retail (non upgrade) version, so I'm quite happy with it! Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate
It was more than five years ago that Microsoft released Windows XP, and on January 30th, 2007 Microsoft is launching Vista, the latest operating system in the Windows family. The most notable improvement is the development of Windows Aero (Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, Open); a new graphical interface and visual style featuring eye candy such as window transparencies and animations. Other new... Top

Ultimate solution for PC users with compatible...
Strengths: Tons of included software and hardware support.
Weakness: Requires a newer more advanced PC.
What do Mac users all over the world do since Vista made its public release? They lie about how superior Mac OSX is. Vista at its lowest level (Home Basic) smokes the Mac OS like like a Ferrari running against a Volkswagon Bug. Just load Vista to a system with comparable hardware to what Mac offers - you will see an immediate improvement in processing power and capability. Hey, even Windows users love to hate the latest versions - it means they have to re-acquaint themselves with the new version. XP users will find Ultimate offers all XP had and much more. They will have to become familiar with where common use items are in Vista, but the included "Help and Support" makes everything easier - occasionally making such as program setting automatic, by just clicking on a provided prompt.
Vista Ultimate offers a voice recognition feature that works great for dictating letters and running applications.
Many added softwares just became obsolete as Vista has so many more functions built in. The Media Center is just one application that allows users to enjoy a full TV media system with an added TV media card and offers a remote control function just like every new TV has. Internet streaming of shows is even easier with a broadband connection - and you can easily use your computer to perform PVR functions for free!
DVD and CD burning are easier than ever, so storing those favorites, or needed items, is easier than ever before.
Resource hogging is a myth. The system OS sees to proper management of all loaded programs and I am till yet to ever experience a "blue screen" or improper shutdown. Just install 2 Gb. of quality memory, be sure to use a video card with DirectX 9 compatibility and the proper amount of memory. Hey, the Online Advisor will notify of any problems, if you explore it, and offer advice on all of what needs to be done. If you have a PC with Vista rated hardware, all you will need is the signed Vista drivers.
I ran Vista in "compatibility mode" for months until all my drivers became available from manufacturers. Now Vista Ultimate just runs faster - faster and smoother in the beginning than XP 32-bit, it is a welcome relief. Driver support for Vista is appearing like never before. In just a few months since its release, all of my drivers are now signed for Vista and all of my hardware is running at top performance. Even my old Logitech wireless RF and Bluetooth keyboards are fully supported!
One suggestion - if you have a 64-bit processor, buy the Vista x64 version. It has a 32-bit folder that provides for all that the 32-bit version of Vista has. You really don't need the 32-bit version here unless you have a 32-bit processor. With a computer science degree from 35 years back, I found this latest new version of Windows with current Internet updates easier still than any other 32-bit software OS. (load it with Internet support enabled) Enjoy the best! Let the others rest - Vista Ultimate is excellent in Work or Home environments.

Doesn't Vista Ultimate package include both versions 32 and 64? Mine does.
