Disregard previous Review, User Error, not Faulty...Strengths: Runs Great, looks great, runs faster than Xp in my opinion. Weakness: None The previous review is obviously user error. He did not check to see if there were drivers available for his hardware before he installed Vista, then complained that it must be Vista's fault. Only people who know what they are doing should upgrade their OS. There are a lot of things to mess up, and if you have no idea what you are doing, don't do it. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? May 14, 2009 After taking 6 months to install Vista on a microsoft Vista compatible system and going through the pain of working with an ineffective MS support system, I do not find the original letter as inappropriate. This comment is obviously from the seller. If this is the kind of support that the seller provides, then I will have to look elsewhere.

Windows Vista Business
THE GOOD: Windows Vista Business does improve some features within Windows XP; fewer system crashes than Windows XP; and Windows Vista offers better built-in support options. THE BAD: Windows Vista Business does not put Search on the desktop (its buried within applications, within the Start Menu); no new software yet written exclusively for Windows Vista; optimized only for the Microsoft Windows... Buyer beware
Strengths: Looks nice
Weakness: not all hardware drivers available. this will somehow change your hard drive so it is Vista accessible only
I just received and installed the latest and greatest. Now hear the real issues;
DO NOT install unless you know for sure your computer manufacturer has loaded the updated drivers for your system. This was my first issue, I have a
TOSHIBA P105-S9722, 2 GIGA BYTES of memory, NVIDIA GFORCE 7900 video card with no less than 256 MEGA BYTES of memory a 200 GIGA BYTE HARD DRIVE and a beautiful 17” Screen and all WINDOWS VISTA CERTIFIED!
WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL!
Just like any of the previous versions of Windows if the drivers are not out there the installation will not be complete. Then you end up with a halfass computer which probable does not look well because you don’t have the display drivers and you can’t hear anything because the sound drivers are not available and you can only connect to your network/internet with a patch cable because your WiFi driver could not be found.
The worse is yet to come, after being on the phone for one hour with the TOSHIBA Tech support (what a laugh) it will not be till mid MARCH that all their VISTA drivers will be available on line. YES, mid MARCH, I guess their development and deployment teams figured they had sometime to get everything ready since Windows kept changing their release date.
So I wasted a day loading this OS. Lucky for me I have my hard drive partitioned and stored all my files on the second partition (Drive D:) I figured everything is safe on the second drive since I did not opt to change my file system. I also had an Image of my previous installation, but low and behold Microsoft has taken that option away and they somehow change they way the drives are viewed by programs like Power Quest Drive Image. They can not access the drives any more, so the back up image I created of my previous operating system with all my programs can not be accessed. ALL of my backed up files on drive D: are lost. I had to reload from the recovery disk and my files on the second partition were not accessible, so all my pictures, movies, documents, and music were lost. It took another day to reload and finally I have most of my programs back in place. As to my files, that’s a lost cause.
I’m sure in a few months (7-8) Microsoft, Toshiba and all the other Manufacturers will eventually get their act together and Vista problems will seem like the splinter you picked out of your finger last year, but until then hold off till they do get their act together.
Secondly; I purchased this notebook in October since everyone was putting out that upgrades for Vista would be provided rather than wait for the newer computers to come out with Vista already on it. Again another disappointment Toshiba finalized their upgrade offer to systems purchased between Oct 28 2006 and Mar 15 2007. I purchased mine on Oct 10, though I purchased the retail upgrade directly I would gladly have made it a gift to a family member since it would have saved some monies.
I guess this is what I get for putting my faith in multi-billion dollar corporations like Microsoft and Toshiba, how does it go “the rich get richer!”

Unfortunately, the lesson you learned was one thousands learned when Windows XP first came out. I got lucky somewhat in that when I was running the RC1 disk on my Compaq Laptop, after 12 tries, it finally picked up all of my drivers, and made running wireless on it easier than running wireless through XP. But the simple lesson is this, never ever buy anything bradn new. if for no other reason than the intro price is too high, it's also because nothing new is faultproof. Remember that.

Who in the world would perform such a major upgrade without checking FIRST that such basic things as video drivers, etc. are available?
Your review only helps us understand your lack of knowledge rather than Vista's capabilities on an operational system.
Oh - and 256 megs of RAM is paltry by today's standards. Even XP runs slow on 256 megs.
Do some homework first before bashing a product you had no business installing in the first place.

"Vista Certified" gives such a false sense of security. All that means is that the hardware meets the requirements of the operating system. It doesn't guarantee there are drivers for any of them. As cincyreds so nicely said, always check for drivers before making such a jump.
I know you already got Vista off your system and you had other driver issues but if it is any help Nvidia has Vista drivers posted on their website. If you do try it again there is something else to remember, back up anything you do not want to lose on other media first.
