Awesome CPU

Strengths: VERY Fast - great value for the money. Very strong at multi-tasking.

Weakness: Few applications utilize all four cores.

The Q6600 is an AWESOME processor and a great value for the money. If you were considering a 2.4 Dual Core, don't bother... with the recent price drop the Q6600 quad core is only about $50.00 more expensive, and has much more potential with future applications

I bought the Q6600 for my new gaming rig, and I've been very impressed with the performance. I've been especially happy with its ability to multi-task... I can run TONS of windows/applications without a dip in performance.

The processor will run slightly warmer than the equivalent dual core, so make sure you are utilizing a good heat-sink (the one included with the CPU is useless). Being that the quad core is slightly larger than the dual core some CPU fans may have trouble fitting with mother board... be sure that you buy a fan that actually screws into the MB (it will make your life much easier).

Great processor for the price.

Strengths: Quad-core power!!! G0 stepping runs very cool. Cores remain stable even under load. Good performance for the price.

Weakness: G0 stepping not guaranteed from some retailers. Penryn CPUs may offer better value when released next month.

There's not too much left to say about this processor. It's fast, stable, and a great value for the price. The only real caveat is that the new G0 stepping cannot be guaranteed from some online resellers.

Quad-Core Performance for a Great Price

Strengths: 1) 4 cores 2) Price 3) G0 Steppings have somewhat less power consumption than their predecessors

Weakness: 1) Still expensive compared to other Intel offerings 2) Not everyone can use the 4 cores

This is a wonderful processor for those who are looking for some serious power. Most games will take advantage of only 2 of the 4 cores, so the only places the quad core processor will give more are in OSs and apps written to take advantage of 4 cores. My main use for quad-core power is video encoding, which gets a great boost from the two extra cores. Future games and applications will definitely use more cores, so this should be a good investment. I recommend it!

QUAD CORE 2.4 GHZ

Strengths: 4 Processors... so multi tasking is easy, it works faster then you can depending on what you are multitasking

Weakness: Heats up, so you would need something better then what it comes with for cooling if you plan on OCing

I like it, I didn't OC it since I don't really need to. Try to get the processor with G0 stepping since it takes less energy and heats up less than the one I got. Overall I love it, works well with Vista premium and XP.

Great bang for the buck!

Strengths: Fantastic value for a quad-core; 3-year warranty; stock fan should work for non-overclocked

Weakness: Limited motherboard support

I upgraded from an Intel Core2 Duo E6600 CPU once the recent price-drops kicked in. What an unbelievable price for a quad-core CPU!! Bravo, Intel, on making quad core CPU available to the masses at under $300 (pretty much a 50% price cut). While I obviously don't notice any performance differences for web-surfing, email, etc. I do notice a difference while using both Adobe Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements. They open quicker, and the tool responds to my commands quicker. I'm not a gamer, so can't comment on that. I use the stock CPU heatsink/fan, and have not had any issues. I'm not over-clocking, so the stock cooler is fine. The only problem I had was in performing the upgrade. I mistakenly believed my motherboard supported the Q6600, as it already supported the E6600. So, after replacing the CPU, my computer wouldn't boot! Doh! I read up on some forums and realized I should have upgraded the motherboard BIOS. I had to replace the CPU with my old E6600 (good thing I didn't sell it already!), update the BIOS, then put the Q6600 back in. It worked!

Great cpu

Strengths: Definitely a great buy. All the power for a cheap price. Future proof

Weakness: Runs hot if you do not take precautions

I paired my q6600 with an asus p5kc and 2 gigs of high speed ram and the 8800 gtx! Some advice, I also bought an asus arctic silent square heatsink, and I have not seen the temperature pass 42 degrees

EXCELLENT Performance at a Decent Price

Strengths: Performs very will in applications that are multi-threaded.

Weakness: Runs significantly hotter than Dual-Core CPUs

Purchased this CPU in a motherboard combo from Fry's for a total price of $299.

On an ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe motherboard I was able to obtain a 3.1GHz STABLE overclock (3.3GHz would boot, but was not stable). This is with a SL9UM stepping processor. In approximately 2 months, SLACR stepping chips should be out and preliminary results indicate they will overclock well.

At the current price of ~$275, this CPU is a good buy for the performance you get.

Best CPU yet

Strengths: fast, easy to install and works with win XP home

Weakness: price - but this is the latest and greatest

This thing is so fast it’s hard to measure. I will benchmark later.
The nice thing is this is somewhat future proof. A year or two from now this will make a great file server CPU. Many games and applications already use multi cores so this quad core just makes it better. This is the best you can get right now. If your building your own PC, skip the dual core and go quad.

You want WOW ....... you found it!

Strengths: This cpu runs extremely cool when overclocked WITHOUT a "TWO POUNDER" cooler hanging on your cpu.

Weakness: None technically. Now we need new apps taking advantage of the four cpu power this chip has. We need a user selectable dedication of each cpu to a defined task.

Running stock Intel cooler staying within adjustable limits and hiting 3600mhz operational stable speed. Cools at 37C idle, 51C max normal load, 61C stress load. Use a good cooling case like the Smilodon.

Core 2 Quad Q6600

Strengths: Overclocks, fast

Weakness: Stock hsf

I patiently or i should say impatiently waited for the price drop, then I paired the Q6600 (G0) with the P-35 DS3R motherboard and so far so good. Recommend the newer G0; SLACR stepping as the TPF is 95watts instead of 105 watts in the B3, SL9UM stepping. Now you can multi-task to your heart's content. Great performance.

Amazing performance at yesterday's single-core price!

Strengths: Really fast...I mean, really, really fast

Weakness: Old stepping (B3) consumes up to 120 watts under load; not a "true" quad core CPU as it is really two e6600s electrically bonded; Vista is still too slow with this CPU installed!

If you need computational speed above all else, this CPU should definitely be at the top of your list. After the recent price cuts, OEM version can commonly be had for around $250 -- that's what we were paying for AMD64 and P4 CPUs not so long ago!
-
Also, try to get the newer G0 stepping as it consumes a maximum of 95 watts under load -- that savings can add up if you leave your PC on 24/7!
-
Even with this CPU, 2 GB of DDR2-1066 RAM and a 3-drive RAID0 SATA strip, Vista still runs slow! LOL... :D
-
All of the Q6600s I've had (B3 stepping) have had no problem hitting 3.0GHz at stock voltage. This is insanely fast processing power, but keep in mind that you will need components to keep up with what it can do. A single hard drive probably won't be able to feed data to the Q6600 fast enough! :)

Quick processor

Strengths: Very quick processor

Weakness: Not all applications can take advantage of 4 cores

This is one quick processor. People have often said that this processor wasn't quick, and that just isn't true. I believe that people thought it should be even faster since they paid so much money for it. Well, prices are dropping and the price that I paid for this was more than worth it.

To be sure to make the most of this processor make sure applications are multi-threaded. Most graphics and video editing applications and most of the newer games would have no problem taking advantage of the extra cores on this thing. Hey, this thing even makes Vista run fast.

Intel Quad Core 2 Duo Q6600

Strengths: Unbelievably fast, and sooooo overclockable! I have it going at over 3 Ghz with no sweat on a Gigabyte P965-Dq6!

Weakness: NONE whatsoever!

If you really want to see your machine sing, but do not want to spend the money on the top of the line Quad Core 2 Duo, buy this one, and just overclock it! you will be just as happy-with money to spare!

Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor (2.40GHz, 4x2MB, 1066MHz...

Strengths: 4 cores of powerful computing power for your MS Vista operating System....and for the price, it's only a little more than the price of two chips of the dual cores!

Weakness: Not an octal-core! ;-)

If I had to choose between my Core2Duo system, and this one now built with a quad chip, I would hands down want to use the quad-core computer. it does my video-editing so fast you would think my old p4 cpu was ten years old-or just really darned tired!

anyway-I am tired of my dual-P4 system, this new quad-core chip rocks!

Awesome performance. Great Price

Strengths: Runs applications, such as photo editing and video editing at rocket speeds. G0 stepping runs fairly cool, and is highly overclockable

Weakness: Runs a little hotter than a Core 2 Duo.

So far, I am very happy with the Q6600. I bought it primarily for photo and video editing, which it accels due to the 4 cores. It also runs games, such as Bioshock and World in Conflict quite well. I have only overclocked it 30%, but from what I read the G0 stepping can reach 3 GHz on air cooling easy.

Q6600

Strengths: Fast multi applications performance.

Weakness: Runs hot due to four cores.

Brought this cpu at fry's for $299, Impressive performance with lots of applications Windows way more responsive than with dual core. Great single threaded performance too. Good overclock but runs hot when you do it.

Intel Core 2 Quad q6600

Strengths: Extremely quick Excellent for multi tasks as advertised. Cheap price now as I posted.

Weakness: Can't find anything, yet.

All I can say is WOW!

This is the first multiple cores system I build after a long time. I have had only single core from both AMD and INTEL. My AMD is 2500XP and INTEL is 2.4GHZ. I just got this combo when Fry's just opened this morning and just finished WinXP Pro installation. It's amazing fast, even with installation is so quick. Just tried 2 aps Photoshop and Corel working at the same time and can't feel any slow down on performance. That's all I can said for now, will try to upgrade to 4G ram later, find a decent PCI Express video card and will put Vista Ultimate to unleash this bad boy.

brentpresley and DKTVPN

wait a second....this processor costs at least $500 by itself...you are saying there is a Fry's special with the processor PLUS a mother board for $299???

Are you sure you are commenting on the correct item? I am looking on the Fry's website and I don't see the deal. They DO have the processor....

Q6600

Strengths: Awesome performance for now

Weakness: not much multithread apps so far

This is a great CPU - for the future. It performs on par with a E6600 on nowaday games and such, but it does not give you much right now for its price...A few months from now, there will be much more threaded apps available for its power...

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core

Strengths: 4 cores, very fast speed, overclockable

Weakness: OS and software not taking advantage of the 4 cores

I have used and like the Quad Core Q6600. However, speedwise, it is almost the same performance as my E6600. In fact E6600 overclock more than Q6600.

Also, there are not many softwares out there that can use all 4 cores. It is great to have and I am sure in the future all 4 cores will be used. Unfortunately, for now, it is a bit useless.

CPU is pretty low power and overclockable with correct motherboard combination.

Great cpu

Strengths: Runs cool. Retail comes with a nice stock fan/heatsink that should be good unless you are o/c'ing like crazy. Great performance by what I can tell. Read weaknesses.

Weakness: Intel does not provide a way to monitor how much each cpu is being used so you don't know what software is taking advantage of the quad core unless you use task manager.

I just upgraded? from Intel's competitor, which was a dual-core, and I don't see a lot of difference and most likely won't until software takes better advantage of multi-core cpu's. Since I have twice as many cpu's it got to be better right? Well.....

FAST CPU

Strengths: speed

Weakness: none

Recently built a system for a customer using this CPU. Great, great CPU for the price. I was hoping the HSF would be prettier (maybe with copper tubing like AMD does on their higher end X2s), but the fan is more than sufficient as the processor does not get excessively hot.

Quad Core Max Muti-tasking

Strengths: Runs very smooth, no matter what program(s) you are hitting it with, and does not seem to heat up on my motherboard even during heavy multi-tasking. Those four cores never max out.

Weakness: None that I have found

I'm not sure why the Duo Core has made such a come-back. Maybe I need to read up on it more These days quad core seems to be going out of style, but I think it still kicks. It can take anything I throw at it, from a program with very heavy graphics, to several programs at once. It is the best I have had so far.

It\\\'s The Best!!

Strengths: Very Very Fast.

Weakness: None that I have found.

I put the core 2 quad on a gigabyte Motherboard and man is this thing fast. I'm running Vista X64 version of windows. I did put a different cooling fan on it and it runs at 25c at idle.

8 gigs of ram also helps. Best CPU for the price. Can't beat it!!!!

Very Impressed

Strengths: Low cost. Fast (relatively speaking).

Weakness: Early version of XP Home Edition will not install.

Only difficulty was installing early version of Windows XP home. You need at least SP1 included with your initial installation.

So far the CPU has not even broken a sweat. My son was playing Quake 4 while downloading Crysis and running Photoshop CS (screen captures). Haven't OC'd yet but considering it because my Chilltec cooler has maintained CPU temp lower than 87 f (30 celsius).

Great purchase and looking forward to programs that take advantage of multiple cores.

Runs fast

Strengths: Very fast

Weakness: gets hot

Runs very fast, but I've been some issues with the pc I've built. I put it on a GA-n650sli-ds4l motherboard and it's been crashing since then. I think that's a problem with either the cpu or the mobo because I've replaced all the other parts.

Fast CPU, but it does heat up a little

Strengths: Very fast (2.4ghz) with 4 cores

Weakness: Builds up quite a bit of heat

I am running this with 2GB of ram and on a gigabyte p35-ds4 mobo. Running very fast and I can see a huge improvement when comparing this to my pentium 4.

Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor G0

Strengths: Fast

Weakness: Yorkfield

As you probably already know, this processor overclocks very well, especially the G0 stepping (aka SLACR). I overclocked mine to 3.55 Ghz with air cooling. It's awesome! Well, maybe not as awesome as Yorkfield, but for well under $300, I can't really complain.

Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor

Strengths: price, performance

Weakness: not to many programs take advantage of the additional cores

The Intel Quad 6600 processor is a great Intel CPU. The Q6600 is the best quad-core for under $300. The CPU is even better if you get the G0 stepping which run cooler, and overclock better. Unfortunately, there aren't many programs that really take advantage of all the cores on the chip. Overall, if you are looking for an excellent processor for the money I would buy this.

Quad core!

Strengths: Very Fast 2 Dual Cores = Quad Core! Great for encoding videos and gaming

Weakness: A little Hot Noisy / mediocre stock fan

This is the best processor I've ever bought. It is very overclockable and easy to install. My g0 SLACR runs much cooler than the b3 stepping. Haven't overclocked it much. I have it running on a p5k deluxe and it's been working great. Vista shows it as a 5.9 :D.

Now with the July 22 price cuts, it's definitely the time to buy!

No more AMD for me!

Brute Force in a Small Package

Strengths: Churns out audio/video encoding projects like it's going out of style, very affordable after recent price drops, quite overclockable

Weakness: Price dropped (stinks for me), not true quad-core (two dual-core dies, basically) so not as efficient as upcoming AMD quads

This CPU is good money spent. It has turned previous 4-hour encode wait times to half an hour in some cases (over my previous OC'd AMD Athlon 64 3800+). I have been running it rock-stable at a 25% overclock, to 3.0 GHz, no problem. If you do a lot of video/audio editing or encoding, this is your chip. Now that the price has dropped significantly, get one now!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Strengths: Very Fast CPU and very overclockable

Weakness: Most software cannnot take advantage of all four cores

I like the idea of having multiple cores. However, the software development is lagging behind as far as using all the cores. I recommend getting quad core in the near future when most of the software start to able to take advantage of it.

Speedwise, it is great. Eventhough you will not see much speed improvement over Core 2 Duo Family right now, there is much to expect from this CPU.

Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor (2.40GHz, 4x2MB, 1066MHz...

Strengths: Speed

Weakness: A tad hotter under load then a Core 2 Duo but well worth the few extra degrees.

Awesome speed for the price and heat this processor generates under full load. With a uni-processer program it is as cool as a Core 2 Duo. Multi-processor applications run like a dream.

Great item

Strengths: Greatly Increases performance on zipping files, video editing, and video compression

Weakness: Not much noticeable improvement over the e6600 for gaming

Great Product and highly recommended. Must have if you use any Adobe software.
The performance difference for the Quad over the Duo is not much noticeable while running windows and regular programs. Its when you run programs that take advantage of the 4 cores when u actually see the processor kick in.
