Logitech X-240 2.1 Speakers

Strengths: Great budget speakers, sound, looks, works with ipod and other mp3 players

Weakness: not a "charging dock" for your players

Good speakers if you can get them on sale. The dock DOES NOT CHARGE your ipod. As PC speakers they do their job, good bass and good sound. No 5.1 THX surround sound but for the everyday user that just needs it to listen to music, watching a movie or when playing a game this will work for you. Can't give it 5 stars as the dock doesn't charge.

PC speakers plus more!

Strengths: good sound, mp3 portable player cradle/input

Weakness: everything wired together

These speakers boost the sound of the music and games I play on my desktop, compared to the small bundled PC speakers I already had. Best thing is that boom-boom sound I got with the subwoofer. Has a headphone jack input. An extra was the ability to connect an mp3 player with the included cable and place it on the stowaway cradle. 2 year warranty period.
I did not like the fact that everything is wired together. But it is a small inconvenience. Once the speakers and subwoofer are in place, I don't expect to be moving them around.

Great Bang for the Buck!

Strengths: Relatively cheap for a worthwhile set of speakers, dock can be useful if you use an mp3 player a lot.

Weakness: Doesn't come w/ toast.

I was a little apprehensive about the quality of these compared to other "dock" speakers, but for the money I paid ($20) it was more than up to the task!

X240 2.1 Speakers

Strengths: Price, compact-ness

Weakness: not-so-good speakers

I got these speakers for a great price after rebate. It is otherwise not worth the full price. THey are ok for a desktop. For my purpose it is alright.

A great 2.1 Package

Strengths: Sound is clear, sub is clean with adjustable sub volume. Dock specializes for iPod video and nano, also the new Zune. Uses the headphone jack from MP3 player for input.

Weakness: Control unit is hard wired to the unit along with AC cord. Does not self power the iPod or Zune. You must use the factory cord (not docking station) to charge. May need to purchase an AC to USB conv.

First off, I have to say I was VERY impressed with the unit. I was at first a bit confused when taking it out of the box on how the control unit was attached to the sub, which houses the amplifier. The power cord was also attached, and both were in a separate compartment so it was difficult to remove. Having flash backs of previous sound systems, I was a bit scared as to the quality (usually low-end speakers are setup like this). I have a nice 5.1 system and every cord is detachable from the main unit. It's nice when you re-organize your room and stuff, but definitely not a necessity.
But I was curious as to how well the sound would be played. Logitech has been known to produce wonderful speakers in the past, and they have done it again with this version.

Setup was a breeze, although I admit I had to cheat and look at the manual to figure out what all the extra dock parts were for along with the extra headphone wire. Learned that the unit fully supports iPod video, and nanos, and the new Zune. Since it does not use the proprietary jacks for the units itself, you can pretty much plug ANY MP3 player to it, and the MP3 rest area is concealable, aka you pull it out during use and can push it back in when not used. The only problem with this is that the "dock ports" for the specific units will get in the way if you decide to use them. And then if you do not, your unit won't be charged. So for all those people that don't want to use it for MP3 and just have a nice affordable 2.1 speaker system for your computer, yes this can work for you. No one will be the wiser about the dock, except for you. Only downside to using this as a MP3 sound dock strictly is that if you decide NOT to plug it into your pc, the pc audio cord is hardwired to the unit, where as the MP3 audio cord is a separate add-on. I think Logitech saw this product as a PC speaker setup first then as an add-on a MP3 speaker setup. Hence the necessity to purchase an AC to USB adaptor for those that don't want to use it as PC speakers as well (where USB ports are bountiful), if your MP3 unit charges through USB that is.

The amp does a great job and delivers a great sound. When you turn the sub off, you hear what you would expect to hear, just pure treble. And the nicest part is that you can manually set the bass level with the volume knob on the back of the sub. The sub although small, delivers a great amount of bass. It won't blow away bigger and more expensive subs, but for it's price range, it's well worth it.

My favorite part was learning that the unit can dual task, be a great iPod speaker system AND connect to the pc at the same time. This may also be a double edged sword as you can mix two songs at once, aka while the iPod is playing, the input from the computer is mixed with it. While some may see this as a hindrance, I see it as a bonus. What would have been nice, is the OPTION for the user to decide, mixed or not. And then decide the priority. Although this would most likely result in 1) a more expensive product 2) a bigger unit. Just be sure to NOT play songs from your computer AND your MP3 player at the same time, unless you want to be a DJ.

All in all, for it's price range I feel that this is a great 2.1 speaker system that allows the user to have the ability to use it solely for MP3 or dual use. A great sounding unit with clean bass and manual bass control. You will not be disappointed in buying one.

Stephen Payne

Strengths: Good sound, good price

Weakness: Low level hum (feedback noise) whenever turned on

The speakers produced a hum whenever they are turned on (I tried moving them away from the computer and all electronic equipment, but the hum was still there). Logitech tech support said this was not normal and I returned the speakers for a replacement. The second pair did exactly the same thing. This time I returned them for a refund. Yes, the hum is partly covered by the noise of the fan of my desktop computer, but it is louder than that. It bothered me sleeping at night and I had to go and turn the speakers off. If you are sensitive to feedback, don't get these speakers

Cheap, not all cracked up to be

Strengths: iPod dock, 2.1 Sound, Inexpensive

Weakness: Cheap, poor sound quality, not very aethstic pleasing

I have to admit, for the money I paid $15 after rebate, it's not a bad product. It has decent sound output, an ipod dock which is nice, decent bass, and bottomline its CHEAP. But the problem is that its not great of a speaker set. If it didn't have the iPod dock, this would be no better than any $20 2.1 speaker set you can buy at Bestbuy. It's nice and convieniant to have the dock, but some can consider it useless since the speakers are already connected to your computer, so most likely you could just run itunes to play the music back to you.

Bottomline - If you can find this for under $20 and you have an iPod, I recommend it, otherwise, spend your money elsewhere if you're looking for something that sounds better and look nicer and sleeker

Amazing Sound for an Amazing Price

Strengths: Kick a** sound, easy to install, mp3 attachment

Weakness: very low humming sound

When I first turned it on I was very impressed with the sound that came out. I'm a music lover and must have the best sound possible when listening to it and this produces it (well at least til I can afford a BOSE system! :) ). It was very easy to install, no software to download, no big manual to read. It comes with a quick install guide, so it's basically plug & play. The only small turn off is the low hum that comes from the sub, but it's placed under my computer desk so I can't really hear it, only when there is a pause in between the songs! ;) I would suggest to those who are annoyed by it is to turn it off when not in use! hellooo!! These speakers are well worth it and I would suggest them to all my music lovers and those who just like a good sound from their computer speakers.

Logitech X-240 2.1 Speaker system

Strengths: Color and sound, can hook my ipod to it.

Weakness: dock does not charge. Odd place for the buttons.

Friend recommended these speakers and with a price of 20 after rebate they were a steal! Looks nice next to my dell pc and also my dell notebook. Wish it could charge my ipod nano but i can only use it to hear my music. You don't need to have the PC on to listen to the mp3 player which i think is a plus. Overall it was a good investment for my needs.

Logitech X 240 Sound System

Strengths: Compact, good looks, MP3 player holder/imput, strong sound for size, headphone jack

Weakness: hard wired speakers

This is a surprisingly strong speaker system for it's size and price. Very nice where realestate is at a premium (like a dorm or bed room). Doubles as a MP3 player speaker system as well as a charging unit with USB. Maybe an iPhone could be used here (I don't have or know anyone with an iPhone). I can see making the most of your laptop using the speakers.

Small, inxpensive speaker system.

Strengths: Small form factor, sub-woofer with adequate power, cradle.

Weakness: Wires not detachable, unable to power MP3 player.

This is one of those items that you can be satisfied due to the price range, but you wouldn't go out of your way to purchase otherwise. It's very compact which is good if your space is limited. Another plus is the included sub-woofer which gives your music an added punch. The biggest downfall in my eyes is that the wires are connected to the unit, so you cannot detach them. This makes it a real pain to move and you really can't spread the speakers out for better sound dispersion. It also would have been nice to include some method of powering the MP3 player using the cradle, but I guess you can't have everything at this price point.

x-240 speakers

Strengths: Clear sound

Weakness: sub & volume control is not detachable

These speakers provide crisp & clear sound, a big improvement over the cheap pc speakers I had before. My only complaint for the speakers is the volume control is not detachable from the sub, which makes it a bit of a pain when setting everything in place. A decent set of speakers at a decent price IF the rebate comes without hassle- which was not the case, they lost/misplaced my rebate(which appears to be common for them) so I need to resubmit..

Pleased

Strengths: multipurpose

Weakness: none

I actually got these for my son to use with his Xbox-360 and his ipod. the external in means he can game on his computer monitor without having the PC on. He started using the external for the variety of MP3 players he has. he loves this product therefore so do I!

A Decent Cheap Speaker

Strengths: looks nice and works OK

Weakness: not the best quality

This is a decent affordable speaker which includes a subwoofer and an adapter for iPods. The overall look of this set is decent despite its low price. Sound quality is not the best, but is acceptable for the price ($15 after rebate). If you were looking for a speaker set for the desktop in this price range, this is a best buy.

Good match at good price for your MP3 or computer

Strengths: MP3 cradle, Volume control for SUB,compact size

Weakness: sound quality is just OK,MP3 cradle does not provide power to player

Overall its OK sound system which can be used with PC,laptop and MP3. Sound quality is not the best.I did noticed some distortion in sub woofer. The wiring cannot be removed from the system , so you have to carry everything together at the same time. There should be some kind on connection in the cradle to power the MP3 player.

Not bad for the Price

Strengths: Inexpensive Works with laptop, ipod or anything with a headphone line out

Weakness: A bit bulky Ipod Dock feels a little flimsy Sound quality is just ok

For the Price they work. I'm using them outside in my patio and it's better than stretching out my speaker wires way across the house. They can also be used to supplement your laptop to give it some sound though your probably better off in that case using a good set of headphones.

It's an easy way to quickly get speaker somewhere remote from your main system, not a replacement by any means but if you can get it cheap enough it's useful.

logitech x-240 so so sound quality

Strengths: features a built-in mp3 cradle with an auxiliary audio input

Weakness: so so sound quality not on par with the creatives in the same price range no volume control when connecting the headphone flat sound on the two satellites subwoofer is very dull

For computer speakers, I've only used creative inspire G380, that one is sold at about the same price range as this x-240. The bulid quality is not bad, the subwoofer is on the small side, especially this x-240 lacks an external power adapter, which translates lacking power to me, and my assumption about it is quite right, this speaker doesn't get very loud, and the subwoofer just sound not very comfortable, while my 2.5-year old creative G380 has an external power adapter, the subwoofer is way better than this x-240.
The cradle is a nice component, yet not detachable which bothers me a little bit. All the controls and the inputs are on the cradle, also comes with adapters for the ipods. But the cradle is not detachable, which lacks of flexiblity.
The other weakness is that although the cradle features an earphone input, when connecting the earphone, the volume control does not work on the earphone.
Overall, I would not recommend the speaker due to so so sound quality, the creative G380 sounds way better than this one. The only reason I decided to keep it is its feature.

Logitech X-240 2.1 Speakers System=BIG sound for...

Strengths: Powerful full range speakers with subwoofer that charges your iPod and has the well known Logitech quality.

Weakness: No remote

This is just one of hundreds of iPod speakers on the market. What makes this system by Logitech stand out is it's superb sound quality and the fact that it has a separate subwoofer for outstanding bass. This set can be found for very little expense after a current Logitech mail in rebate. I have heard many iPod speakers and most have a very tinny sound with very little bass. I highly recommend these speakers. The only real drawbacks are that there is no remote control included and that they are not portable. But then again they were not meant to be. Also, on many computer systems you can plug this in and have a 2.1 sound system for your computer or iPod.

Decent speaker with an affortable price

Strengths: Compact, price

Weakness: Weak sound quality

Let's face it, you are not going to get some great sound quality for that price. However the sound quality is not horrible either, it is good enough for normal and office use. I like its compact design, it fits well on my desk.

logitech x-240 speaker system

Strengths: great price moderately compact size ipod/ipod mini/zune dock good quality sounds

Weakness: speakers are hardwired together, not separately no wired remote to control subwoofer output

i bought this for a great deal (less than $10), and for that price, you can't go wrong.
these speakers are great for the price and i honestly would have paid twice the amount for the same speakers.
they are small enough to fit with my laptop, but also loud enough to give me a much better experience than just my laptop speakers.
the subwoofer adds a nice touch of bass, all the while being moderate in size - not too big and not too small. the satellite speakers give nice sound, especially when combined with the bass. i recommend this to anyone else, great deal, especially with the added convenience of the ipod dock!! no need to buy an ihome or customized ipod dock, this fits them all! (it attaches through the regular 3.5 mm headphone jack, but also has customized plastic attachments that will allow for ipod or zune chargers to come up through the bottom)

Great Value

Strengths: These speakers are able to produce sound way better than what laptop speakers. Very clean. MP3 player dock is also a nice added feature.

Weakness: The only weakness I would see is the wiring. Could be detachable to make things easier, but not too bad. Build material is not as great as it could be.

When I opened the box, i saw the two speakers and the not so large subwoofer. I was concerned that the subwoofer would not be able to produce a solid sound do to the size. After I set them up and plugged them in, boy was I wrong. The subwoofer and the speakers both emit clean sounds and get slightly distorted as you approach max volume. But for the price, I cannot complain. The added MP3 player holder is also a nice added feature. When your laptop is not plugged in, you can EASILY plug in your MP3 player to the speakers to play music.
Overall I am more than pleased with this product.

Great Speakers for the Price

Strengths: -Price -iPod Dock -Good Sound and Bass

Weakness: -Control Station Hardwired to Sub -Occassional Buzzing Sound

For sub-$50 speakers, there are great. Can't expect nothing better in this price range. The iPod dock is a great addon, however, it's not very sturdy - your media player can easily fall off. Also, I seem to get a slight buzzing sound occassional for about 2 seconds that didn't occur with my old speakers. It's nothing too bad though.

For 2.1 speakers at the price, the cons can easily be overlooked. Still produces great sound and great bass with the sub.

GREAT little 2.1 system

Strengths: *Great sound *Compact size *Good value

Weakness: *None

I have an m230 and set this system up in less than 30 minutes. The sound is very good ,considering it's price and size.
A good friend of mine highly recommended this system and he wasn't wrong. I would offer the same advise.

Great value for price

Strengths: It works for the iPod and for laptops/desktops. Sweet deal for the price.

Weakness: I haven't found anything yet

Logitech is one of my favorite companies for non-home theather speakers. This product is no exception to that rule. It has fairly good wattage for a product in it's price range and provides good low-end and high-end bass in my opinion.

a great speaker for mp3 player and computer!

Strengths: It can be used as a computer speaker system as well as a stand alone personal music device docking station. very impressive quality of sound, stylish design

Weakness: None

This speaker replaced my old and small creative speaker. I like its design, and more importantly, the sound quality is very impressive. I never thought the small unit like this can produce so good low frequency response. Highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to enjoy music while has no place for big speakers.

Not bad, not great...

Strengths: Inexpensive (especially after rebate); iPod cradle a nice touch

Weakness: Weak bass; would rather have volume control knob instead of wheel on side of iPod cradle.

I recently bought this system as an inexpensive replacement for my 9-year 2.1 Antec Lansing speakers. I only listen to iTunes / iPod occasionally, so I don't need the best. Turns out my onboard sound was going bad, as the same scratchy sound from only the left speaker was still audible. So, I am plugging back in my old speakers. The X-240 aren't bad, but they aren't as good as what I had. Bass is weak, and just can't seem to get a good, clean sound out of them. As a backup set or a laptop speakers, you can't beat the price. If you are looking for great sound, better look to spend more.

X-240

Strengths: cheap and compact, for those who have a small room

Weakness: doesn't have enough power, don't expect much from this unit

i bought this when it was on sale for 20 bucks after rebate so i wouldn't complain.

comparing this to my x-230, it sounds crappy.

but it is really handy to have the ipod cradle (not exactly a cradle, it is just a slot where you have to fit your original USB/1394 cable into it)

Best quality for the price

Strengths: easy setup, clear crispy sound

Weakness: volum control disabled when headphone on

as a 2.1 system, this is rich and powerful.
Ipod fits comfortably into the cradle. This system plays any mp3 player, but the cradle only holds the ipod shape.

Watch out for the wiring. I accidentally cut the main wire connecting the subwoofer and the remote device as I was trying to open the packaging around the subwoofer. The system is now worthless to me. Obviously this is the result of my own error, but it seems like the wires should be protected and away from the cardboard in the packaging.
