It's a Lian-Li ... 'Nuff said
Strengths: Top-grade craftsmanship and quality. Two 120mm fans and Good airflow keeps components cool. Lots of room by mid-ATX standards. Tool-less side panel removal. Tool-less hard drive mounting w/6 HD bays.
Weakness: No removeable motherboard tray. Expansion card support column useless when using large CPU heatsink/fans. Poor, convoluted instructions/documentation.
The PC-V1200 plus was purchased as an upgrade from the Lian-LI PC-60 I used for 4 years. I've come to expect superb quality from Lian-Li and this case was no exception. Pictures never seem to do justice to how polished the Lian-Li aluminum cases actually look. This case is gorgeous. I chose the V1200 instead of the V1000 for the extra 40 mm of depth space, which allows the possibility of upgrading to a larger, higher-wattage power supply in the future. The "plus" version of the V1200 adds a cooling kit that adds ducted air toward the CPU and an exhaust fan over expansion cards. Being a high-quality case, there a very few sharp edges; most edges are polished and rounded or lined with a plastic edge-guard.
Installation of components wasn't very difficult, but the nonconventional inverted design (combined with an instruction sheet that can be hard to read at times) requires some thought during the process. Hard drive installation is a snap with the tool-free hard drive bay design. Though I didn't have problems feeding the power cables of my Seasonic S-12 600W PSU through pre-cut holes, owners of smaller power supplies may find shorter cable lengths difficult to work with. The most difficult part of installation was the motherboard/CPU, only because I was trying to avoid removing the center balast running over the mobo area. After removing the center balast, mounting the mobo with a large CPU heatsink/fan pre-installed became pretty easy. The center balast ultimately had to be left off because the plastic expansion card holders interfere with my 120mm CPU fan.
Cooling in the PC-V1200 is a big improvement over my PC-60. CPU temperature dropped over 5 degrees Celsius and PWMIC by over 10. Noise level is slightly higher than my PC-60, mainly due to the presence of vent holes throughout the case. Though this case is on the pricier-side compared to some on the market today, I did not note this as a weakness because of the high standard of quality in the Lian-Li case, a standard seldom matched by other brands.
