Corsair 8GB USB GT Flash Voyager

Strengths: Very fast at a reasonable price!

Weakness: Its protective packaging makes it a bit bulky. And its rounded shape makes it hard to attach a gummed identification label to the drive.

I have owned about a half dozen USB flash drives. The early drives I owned had limited storage (less than 1 GB) and as I wasn't moving that much data, speed wasn't that important to me.

As I now regularly backup about 1.5 GB of data to the USB flash drive, speed has become much more important.

The Corsair GT is almost exactly four times faster than my Verbatim 4 GB USB flash drive. Which means what used to take an hour to backup (often in a hotel room at the end of a long tiring business trip) now only takes 15 minutes.

Great fast drive at a very reasonable price.

Unbeliebably great

Strengths: Fast durable great service

Weakness: none

I've owned easily dozens of different USB keys (I'm a gadget junkie) and this is clearly the best ever. It's the fastest one I've ever used, with the most storage and great design. Even recently, most 8gb keys were VERY slow. This one is FASTER than my previous Corsair 4gb (which was already quite fast). Rubber coating leads me to believe it will be quite sturdy. I thought I lost a cap (turns out I didn't) and the service guys sent me a replacement free right away! I love this key!

CORSAIR 8GB FLASH VOYAGER GT

Strengths: The absolute fastest and most solid USB flash I have ever owned.

Weakness: Easy to lose cap!!!

I have had this drive 1 day and i CANNOT BELIEVE THE SPEED. I can fill this thing up (4 gig version) in about 15 seconds with different size files. Unbelievable!!!

This thing's quick ....

Strengths: Extraordinary speed, my desktop hard drive works overtime to keep up with it when writing large files.

Weakness: Rubber casing gets in the way of other USB ports if they're too close together. However, an extender cable is provided. Looks as though USB 1.1 support has been added as an afterthought.

I've been following the reviews of this drive for some time and can confirm that this thing is very fast; much quicker than a 1Gb drive I also own. If you're frustrated like I've been that it takes several minutes to copy a large file to an off the shelf USB drive, get one of these - I don't think anything else comes close when it comes to transfer speed. A 700mb transfer takes less than a minute compared with 5 minutes with my 1Gb drive.

However I have noticed that the Voyager GT seems to be slower than my 1Gb drive in USB 1.1 mode. I use the drive predominantly in a DVD player with just 1.1 support to watch TV downloaded off the internet. Neither of the files are fragmented but the Voyager takes about twice the time to read the index from the AVI file through the DVD player.

I like the rubber design and it feels nice carrying it around. However, it's built with the type of rubber that can easily collect dust and be hard to get off when it does.

Keep an eye on the prices. The price of the Voyager GT appears to be creeping upwards almost on a daily basis; the 8Gb version having gone up $60 in several months. I'm guessing demand is far outstripping supply and retailers know it. I managed to get mine for $110, a day or two before the price was hiked to $130 and then a week later to $140.
