Awesome board for a Media PC

Strengths: Onboard consumer IR, RAID, supports latest processors

Weakness: no floppy connector, no overclocking support.

This is an awesome motherboard for HTPC use. I just built my third HTPC using this board. The onboard features are very nice. It has consumer infrared ports, which is a first on any motherboard. This means I dont have to use an external USB device for Infrared control. I used a small device from another meritline.com to connect those ports, all info is included in the motherboard. Works flawlessly!
The motherboard is rock solid, it has been running 24x7 for the past week, no issues. It does have the newer ATX2.2 power connector which maked it incompatible with older powersupplies. I did not know this and had to buy a new power supply. Also it sleeps and wakes up just fine. Drivers seem to be stable of course it is an intel machine !
Overall it is a very nice board for use in a HTPC / media pc.

Rock-solid, high-performance main board from Intel

Strengths: Pop it in, connect stuff to it (potentially a LOT of stuff), forget about the techie-stuff and enjoy it.

Weakness: No floppy controller, no BIOS tweaking (for overclocking)

This is a great board if you want a high-performance PC, but are not into overclocking. As the previous reviewer mentioned, a media center PC (aka Home Theater PC or HTPC) is a perfect application for this board.

It sports support for processors with 800Mhz, 1033Mhz or 1333Mhz front-side buses (for example, Pentium Dual-Core, Core 2 Duo Exx00 series, or Core 2 Duo Exx50 series, respectively).

Up to 8GB of RAM can be supported (remember Vista 32-bit only supports 3.5GB). The only memory speeds supported are 667Mhz (PC-5400) and 800Mhz (PC-6400), with no option to tweak timings or voltages. The board only supports DDR2 DIMMS that operate at 1.8v, so read the RAM specs carefully. With this board, you will be best off with manufacturers "value" series, rather than high-end DIMMs targeted at overclockers. Some examples are OCZ DDR2 PC-6400 System Elite series OCZ2SE8002GK or Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2N5K2/2G. Be sure to take advantage of the board's dual channel memory capabilities.

The board has six SATA2 ports and comes with an eSATA connecter. Intel Matrix Storage (supported on Vista or XP boxes only) provides RAID 0, 1, 5, or 10 support.

Since this is a full-sized ATX board, there are also three PCI slots, three PCI Express x1 slots and one PCI Express x16 slot. Plenty of room to expand. Note that since there is only one x16 slot, the board does not support cooperative, dual graphic card configurations (ATI Crossfire or nVidia SLI).

On-board audio is Intel High-Definition Audio (7.1 channels). This solution is fine for the majority of us. True audiophiles or people doing a lot of audio encoding may want to opt for a discrete audio solution.

Basically what you have here is a board that offers high-performance out-of-the-box, with plenty of expansion capability, but no "tweaking" capability, on-top of Intel quality and reliability.

I don't think you can go wrong with this board, unless you are an overclocker. But, if you are an overclocker, chances are you haven't read this far... :-p

DP35DP motherboard

Strengths: Great motherboard for the price

Weakness: no sli or floppy connector

Great all around motherboard. Has no sli support or floppy. But I am not a big gamer and can't tell you the last time I used a floppy drive. Has infared ports so you could use a remote control to control dvd playback. Can boot from a usb device so you could install raid drivers that way if needed

Soo disappointing

Strengths: Intel stable

Weakness: works OK, except wouldn't enter ACPI standby completely

Is an upgrade for DP965LT so that I can run E8400 cpu. Got it going fine, this board has no PS/2 for mice or Keyboard, That wasn't a problem for me. Doen't have a parrallel port for my printer, got a SIIG PCI-to-parrallel card.

Gave it a low rating cause I'm RMAing for a replacement DP35DPM. When my board enters ACPI standby, green power LED & LAN activity LEDS go out, but fans remain on & CD drives open close by front button. Board isn't signaling PS to standby. Substituted known good PS, updated to latest BIOS, chipset .INF, Intel BIOS manager, LAN adapter driver. The board comes out of it's halfway standby correctly. Wish standby wasn't so importat to me, this was the only problem, Intel's are generaly FOOL proof!

1 - DANGER! THIS IS A FRUSTRATING TIME SINK!

Strengths: It came in a really swell box.

Weakness: BE CAREFUL WHAT MEMORY YOU BUY FOR THE BOARD AND IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL RAID, YOU'LL NEED A MONTH TO GET IT TO WORK.

You must listen to the other nightmares posted about this mobo! Intel ships the RAID software on a floppy, but there's no floppy controller on the board. Intel support says use a USB floppy drive.... but it has to be one of a few specific models. I tried to find a place to buy any of the recommended USB drives -- not available and Intel Support can't tell you where to find one.

Intel Support gives you a link to a Microsoft sight to explain slip-streaming the RAID drivers onto a Windows installation disk. It took me two days to figure out slip streaming on my own -- Intel refuses to help with that process.

Now that the system is finally loaded, I get a scrambled screen two out of three times that I try to boot... must keep hitting reset to get it to work.

Be sure you buy ONLY memory that meets Intel's specific voltage and other specs. A little be off, and it won't work.

No wonder the Intel pre-sales support person told me that I should buy the DP35DP mobo instead of the DP45SG... they're trying to get rid of these pieces of junk!

Not for the Amateur

Strengths: intel reliability, tons of USB ports, lots of fan connectors.

Weakness: No parallel port, no floppy port, no PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, lone serial connector is very far away from the slots

To put it bluntly, this motherboard is a basket case until you update the bios to the latest version. After that everything will work just fine. The fun part though is getting the bios updated since you have no floppy port! My recommendation is if you want legacy compatibility, search elsewhere. Any old style ports on this board are for temporary use at best.
I have a Q6600 with 8 gigs, SATA only drives, lots of USB devices plugged in and a Geforce 8 series card with beefy power supply and lots of 92mm fans and it works well. The fans give off a slight clicking noise, presumably due to how the system reduces voltage to the fans to slow them down. Irritating but not very loud, easily drowned out by the video card fan.

DP35DP

Strengths: Board is a media series board with many features

Weakness: No Floppy, no P/S2 connectors

It is a solid board with 6 usb ports in the back with connectors for up to 12 total. Has 7.1 sound. It is a good board for the price. You will need a PCI-e video card for this as it does not have integrated video. Supports the latest chips with 1333 FSB. As stated before, there is no floppy or P/S2 connectors. Another disappointing feature is the esata connector without a powered extention.
