30" Dell 3007WFP-HC LCD

Strengths: Size, Great Resolution

Weakness: Need a special video card for it

This monitor is perfect for gamers and Dell is a great company to buy from. The resolution is very good on it and you can fit a lot of pages at one time. I would recommend this monitor to anyone.

Great monitor

Strengths: Competitive price, quick on, adjustable stand, built-in USB hub

Weakness: No OSD, only one input (DVI), USB hub does not support SDHC

I won't get into the decision to purchase a 30" monitor as that's a long and separate topic. I'll just discuss the merits of this monitor.
Dell is currently (spring 08) selling both the 3007WFP and its successor, the 3008WFP. This means that you can get the 3007WFP for a discount as they start phasing it out. The 30" LCD monitor market is very small, with only a few manufacturers making panels this large. The 3007WFP comes in at the bottom of the price range but the quality is superb given the UltraSharp pedigree. Personally, it is hard for me to justify spending $1000 more on a competing 30" monitor given that, when I'm ready to move on to a new (possibly bigger) monitor in a few years, the resale values will be comparable.
One potential drawback of this monitor is that it only supports one input: dual-link DVI. As I plan to use this with only one source, I don't have a problem with this, but others might.
Many manufacturers are currently hyping DisplayPort as the successor to DVI (Dell even predicts that DisplayPort will become mainstream in 2009). Nevertheless, I'm not concerned about this monitor becoming obsolete given the fact that the majority of desktops and laptops still ship with VGA output despite the fact that you can't find a new CRT (the only device that should rightfully interface with VGA) at any major retailer. DVI will be around for many years to come.
I like the fact that the monitor comes with a 9-in-2 media card reader because it means I don't have to go dig up that USB cable when I want to upload pictures from my camera. Unfortunately, it does not support SDHC (SD high capacity) which is silently taking over SD.
As you may have heard, there is no on screen display on this or many other 30" panels. The only buttons are for power and brightness adjustments. The rest has to be configured via the video card's settings.
One final note is that this monitor powers up quickly (noticeably faster than my old 2407WFP). To me this is nice because I have the monitor power off after several minutes of inactivity to extend its life.

awesome LCD

Strengths: Bright image with crisp text even at the tiniest fonts; attractive design; relatively inexpensive compared to other 30-inchers; built-in media card slots.

Weakness: No composite or S-Video inputs; ghosting evident during DVD playback.

You can't ask for better than this monitor, if you can swing the cost. Even if you have a Mac, you'll be paying less than the cost of the Cinema Display, getting the EXACT same performance, and you get great extras like a USB hub and a 9-in-2 media card reader. Truly, there's nothing more fun than having your web browser open on one side of the screen and your e-mail client open on the other, and both pages are MUCH larger than even a legal-sized sheet of paper! And movies and games? Fuggedaboutit! If you've never gamed widescreen, you should! And it's taken the hairiest game scenarios I've thrown at it with aplomb. No tearing, no slowdowns, just pure adrenaline-soaked bliss! It would be nice if it didn't run so warm, though that's probably just an artifact of the TRULY bright backlight on the thing, and if you could adjust more than just that brightness on the on-monitor controls, but those are minor nits on the back of a magnificent beast! Do get this one if you can. Your computing experience will NEVER be the same!

3007WFP HC awesome monitor

Strengths: Huge!!!! Great picture

Weakness: very few inputs...runs very warm..power buttom is touch sensitive!

Hey Guys

I recently purchased a Dell 3007WFP-HC and I love it!! I was concerned though after noticing how warm the top of the monitor was sitting on my desk. I don't do any gaming just surf the net, I can imagine it must get a lot warmer if being used for gaming. I attributed it to the tight clearances inside and low profile which doesn't allow much room for air to flow through the unit. I know heat is bad and will lead to shortened monitor life and early component failure. I paid too much for this monitor too lose it to heat. So I came up with a solution. I designed a USB fan with speed control that mounts to the rear right side of the monitor and uses the existing slots to mount, so it can be removed with no damage to the monitor. If anyone is interested in extending the life of their monitor, please email me! jaeleb2001@yahoo....com
