D-40x - an Entry level SLRStrengths: Good LCD, Long battery life, cheaper price Weakness: No bracket shooting, No built-in autofocus system, difficulty in getting good, sharp focus with certain tele lenses in low-light conditions, No hard buttons for ISO It is a very good option for an entry-level DSLR one can get for the price you pay. It is a DSLR - don't compare it with a point and shoot/compact cam. At the same time, it is not a very good option for medium/high end professionals in many terms such as build quality, features etc. I upgraded to D-40x three years ago from Sony DSC-H1. I have been using it even with a 150-500mm Sigma telephoto lens and have been satisified with the quality so far except that since it depends on the autofocus system of the lens it doesn't perform very well in low-light conditions. But, I know I need an upgrade now and it will be most likely D-300. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

The D40x has much of the same pre- and postproduction image adjustments as the D80, such as the Optimize Image menu of color/sharpness/contrast profiles, redeye fix, and D-Lighting to turn down excessive contrast. Excellent engry level SLR DC for the price
Strengths: Relatively low price with lots of features
Weakness: with no silver color option
This is the first SLR digital camera I bought. I'm very satisfied with the purchase. The camera is solidly built and gives a professional look. The picture quality is way better than my $100 Nikon CoolPix L11. I think Nikon D40x is a better choice than Canon Rebel XTi. Plus, the price of Nikon lens is lower than Canon's as well.
