Won\'t necessarily work with Power Mac G5

Strengths: 256MB, AGP

Weakness: Does not work.

I bought this for a Power Mac G5 2.0 GHz (June 2004) running Mac OS X 10.4.10. It has a NVidia GeForce FX 5200 (64MB) video card. This ATI is one of three retail cards that my Mac can be upgraded with. This Mac has 8xAGP and PCI-X (not PCI Express), and the other two upgrade options are ATI 9800 (4xAGP for ~$250) and X800 (~$300) cards. After installing the card, and without even installing the software, the Mac would no longer boot, except into Safe Mode. I tried reinstalling Mac OS X 10.4 three times, with limited to no success. Every time the Mac would end up in a state where it would only boot into Safe Mode. When it did boot, there would be a little box around the cursor that would not properly refresh. Loading the ATI Displays Update (from the ATI web site) fixed this, but then the Mac would get into a state were it could only boot into Safe Mode.

This is the FOURTH ATI video product I have had problems with in the past month. My work laptop was given a bad ATI video driver upgrade (BSOD at boot time). Two different ATI cards were purchased to replace an NVidia card in another Wintel PC, and the PC constantly hung and crashed. I am done with ATI products.
