Worked for 4 days total, Terrible Customer Service

Strengths: It worked okay for a few days

Weakness: It failed after 4 days of moderate use, the complete LACK of customer service, and it ran REALLY hot

I purchased this as a backup to PCI wireless cards for my work. Had occasion to use it last week, where it worked okay for a few days (signal reception was far from great, but not bad either). I'd noticed that it was running REALLY hot and tried to make sure the computer was the least used and suspended when not in use. To no avail, the item died a couple of days later. I sent email to their CS about the issue, waited a few days and finally Called because of no reply. I was given attitude on the phone and finally told to take it back to the place of purchase. THEY DO NOT EVEN WARRANTY THEIR OWN PRODUCT! I can't believe that a company can exist today with such poor customer service. The couple of dollars saved over a better companies product just isn't worth it. I can not recommend Trendnet to anyone.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Price

Weakness: Utility, No native Linux driver

It works well after standard installation and configuration. No signal drop issue observed. The included utility is a little skinny, but works anyway.

It is based on ZyDas ZD1211 chipset. There is no native linux at this time. If you need linux support, ndiswrapper + WinXP driver are your best bet. Overall, good product for the price.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Excellent reception, sturdy, and cool looks.

Weakness: Sticks out, but not a problem on desktops

I'm using this on my desktop in favor of the PCI solution because I needed the extra PCI slot and also because I had driver conflicts with the netgear 802.11g pci card in windows xp. Despite its size, it picks up more signal than even my notebook's builtin solution. Plus it's cheap! Driver installation was also painless and I'm relying on windows xp's built-in wireless manager to do most of the work. All in all, I expected a cheap crappy solution that fit my needs, but instead got an excellent product that exceeded my expectations.

Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Support wireless G network, USB Plug and Play, Small and handy, Cheap price

Weakness: None

Good wireless add-on for both desktop and especially laptop, easy to carry arround and install. Plug and play with no complicated configuration, instruction that comes with the product is very details so novice user can install with ease. Cheap and affordable and long lasting...still havent have any trouble. Might be less strong in terms of reception than those internal PCI card with athenna but acceptable reception.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Inexpensive. Excellent reception and generally good throughput.

Weakness: Poor documentation. Drivers and wireless utility both not the best. No Linux support for this chipset.

As mentioned above this is an inexpensive, good performer. It outperformed several laptops with built-in wireless antennas, in both reception and throughput, on a mixed mode 2.4 ghz network. It could be an excellent buy for a windows user with some proficiency installing hardware. The all-in-one USB design is also very nice for certain applications requiring remote antenna placement with minimal signal loss.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Easy wireless connection for both desktops and laptops.

Weakness: Doesn't retain profile settings.

As an inexpensive, portable wireless connection, this is exactly what I needed in my "bag of tricks" when trying to help people with their computers. However, the drivers as shipped (and the latest ones I was able to download) have shortcomings that may be addressed in the future.

First, when using this adapter on a Windows 98 desktop, removing the hardware caused a blue screen, yet the device wouldn't work after a reboot unless it was removed and reinserted. The workaround: instead of restarting with the device in place, I had to shut down, remove the device, boot, then insert it.

The second problem is that even in environments where it does work after reboots (I tried on a Win ME laptop) it doesn't remember the encryption settings after a reboot or even after going into suspend mode and waking back up. Going into the utility program and reloading the profile works. For temporary use, this is acceptable, but I'm sure it'd get old if it was a device you were trying to use full time.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: cheap & good signal strength

Weakness: Outlook(kinds of big)

This one works fine. For this price(I got it for about $8 after rebates), you cannot expect a better one than this. I don't like its design and size. The sign strength is good, but it is not very stable.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Style and exceptional range

Weakness: None

Bought this usb solution after breaking my pc card slot on the notebook (long story). Boy was I glad to get an external solution, the range and quality of reception was plain awesome. It does stick out significantly but because my usb ports are located at the rear of the notebook, I never notice it. Installtion was quick and painless as well although the instruction manual was sparse but shouldn't be a problem if you are familiar with installing wireless devices. Would definately buy a few more if they go on sale!

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: This USB Adapter can be used with any Notebook or a PC Desktop. Great Price for a 54 Mbps adapter.

Weakness: The adapter is always extened outside of my notebook. But I think one can still live with it, what more can one expect is such a great low price.

Overall I liked the adapter and I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a 54Mbps wireless adapter. It is really great in the price range it is sold.

works great

Strengths: great reception and easy to install

Weakness: bulky

I didn't have any trouble installing the drivers for this. I just popped in the cd and windows found it. As previous reviews state, its a little bulky, but for the price, its highly recommended

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Easy to install; works great; can't beat the price

Weakness: none found

The TRENDware 54MBPS WIRELESS USB ADAPTER works perfectly and is such a cinch to install. I cannot think of a reason why anyone would pay twice as much for many of the competitive products. Signal is very strong. Great product, I will be ordering another one.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Simple installation. Decent signal.

Weakness: It looks not very attractive. The cap doesn't come up, you just slide up and down (pretty useless).

This USB adapter works fine, but it doesn't pick up signals as readily as the netgear wg111 that I prefer. Its main strong point is that it is cheaper compared to netgear or linksys. I got mine for $15 after rebate. The adapter is not too bulky though, even though it might look that way. It doesn't take up the space of adjacent USB ports.

Crappy company, crappy product, sleazy website

Strengths: None

Weakness: Incompatiblity with Tivo and other network uses

Not only is their product inferior and incompatible with various uses i.e. Tivo, they have the balls to mousetrap people at their website if you visit it. I thought only porno vendors engaged in this type of crap. But then, I never bought anything from a crappy company like Trendnet before.

OK adapter

Strengths: Easy to use

Weakness: Sometimes signal weak

It's only been 3 months since I bought it. This adapter is very easy to set up and use. In just a few minutes, I was ready to browse the Internet on my notebook using it. Sometimes the signal is not strong enough, which is the major drawback.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: compact and cheap

Weakness: color and sliding cover seems tacky

I will be using it for a netpliance i-opener and trying to hook up to a wireless hub in my house. Not to concerned about the apperance with it being hidden behind the computer.

2 Failed units out of 2!

Strengths: works ok for a few days to a few weeks.

Weakness: 2 out of 2 ran hot and then died

Bought one at Microcenter last year for $20 (could have had a $10 rebate but got discusted and didn't bother.)

The first one ran hot and then died after a few days. I took it back to Microcenter and got another, figuring it was just a single bad item. The 2nd one lasted about 35 days, just long enough to make it impossible (or at least difficult to take it back.) I gave up.

Stay away from this product!

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Great style and nice performance

Weakness: Need to install the utility under some condition

When I am using it in my school. I have to install the utility that come with the software CD to get a stable signal. Otherwise, it will keep searching for the strongest signal by constantly acquire ip address and never connected. It works fine with only access point at home, but works strange with multi access point/bridge with same SSID and WEP. Overall, it is still a good substitute if you can't use a PCMCIA wireless card.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Small, usable in both desktop/laptop, geeky pocket clip, easy to configure, Driver and utility only takes 3.22MB (compare to over 9MB for Linksys), price

Weakness: Signal Strength, only 3 yr warranty (compared to lifetime Belkin or Linksys)

Great little adapter with everything you need, no xtra weight or space. Definitely recommend, although rebate hasn't come and I will edit my rating considerably if TrendNET tries to rip me off.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Picks up a signal well, the bundled software works good, I like the extension cable

Weakness: doesn't have an add-on antenna for picking up a larger range

This device was easy to install, very affordable, and a much more sensible purchase than a PCMCIA card. This will work in laptops, desktops, and though I haven't tested it yet probably in fun things like X boxes, and maybe (eventually) PDAs. Very useful tool. Maybe someday they'll make Wireless USB devices that also have built in storage, mp3 capabilities, projection screens and keyboards, etc.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: capturing ability, easy installation, excellent strength and quality

Weakness: sliding cover, I did not find any use of that sliding cover

Its really a good product worth buying. Its recieving capacity is excellent and it has some beutiful features such as easy scanning, automatic channeling of the networks. Selecting a best channel for the reception, shows all the networks in your environment,Scans the best quality that fits a particular channel to recieve the data. I found this product as one the best things in th market and recommend though.

TRENDnet TEW-424UB Wireless G USB Adapter

Strengths: Cheap, good reception signal.

Weakness: Bad installation guide.

Good price - $14 from buy.com after rebate. Good signal and reception once it's setup. Installation instruction is different from what I actually need to run on my PC. Fail couples of time try to detect the device and can't find the right software to install. Finally, I need to reboot my PC (Windows XP) in order to recognize the device.
