Extreme Value

Strengths: Best Bang for the buck mobo Has all the basics you need. handles overclocks pretty well

Weakness: no firewire, raid, double post issue(but there is a beta bios for it.. so no worries)

The board was awesome, got it at mwave for just $70 after rebate.. it is that cheap.. i overclocked my e2140 to 2.9ghz at all stock voltages.. it also has a nice blue color on it..

If you are on a budget, this is the best mobo to get.. it's p35 chipset which will support the upcoming 45nm processors by intel

Good board, some compatibility problems

Strengths: It is a strong board. Easy steps to follow the installation CD to complete setup. Runs overall stable.

Weakness: Won't enter Windows with my OCZ Plantinum Revision 2GB(2X1GB) in pair. Need manually adjust the voltage and timing in the BIOS with a single stick first.

I am overall satisfied with this board. But annoying with the memory installation. I have to google the solution to find out my OCZ 2GB must be in 5-5-5-15 and 2.0V mode to have my PC working well.

Be Forewarned

Strengths: It's a P35 chipset, it's ABIT, and it's cheap. When you finally get it working, it's fast.

Weakness: A lot of tweaking and twiddling required. I was going to RMA, but after digging deep on the web, I was able to get it going.

This was the most troublesome mohtherboard I've ever worked with, and I've been assembling PCs since 486 days. The key seems was to fully (and I mean FULLY) reset the BIOS to default. This involves setting the jumper, switching off power and unplugging the PC. And letting it sit there for several minutes while the caps drain. Glad I didn't have to cut power to the whole house! If you are new to building, pass it up.

Potential Buyers Beware

Strengths: One of the cheapest P35 so far.

Weakness: The design of the IDE connector makes itself unusable. The default BIOS settings are wrong. double rebooting sucks!

I bought this board and Intel E6750. The board refuses to boot even from its default values (I have the latest ver. 11 BIOS). You have to manually set 333 X 8, otherwise it won't run. Even after that, I experienced random rebooting problem. After a few days frustrating search for solutions, a manual setting for the RAM values finally puts this board back in rein. The problem is the OCZ Platinum 2GB kit I bought supports 1.9 v while the default value (again!) was 1.8v.

The double rebooting is another well known problem for this board. I heard the IP-35 pro doesn't have this problem. On top of the buggy BIOS and dumb IDE design, I feel Abit only cares for its high end customers, and leave us "El Cheapos" in the cold.

If you are going for the ArcticCool Freezer 7 Pro, it fits but a very tight one because of its proximity to the NB cooler.

You are forewarned and good luck!

IP35-E is another solid ASUS board

Strengths: Has onboard digital audio Has room for large video cards with cooling fans ASUS brand ASUS forums Attractive looks Has BIOS that helps for easy overclocking

Weakness: BIOS that was shipped with motherboard double boots at the beginning. Restarts when I tell it to shut down.

All in all, this is a great board. You're getting rock-solid ASUS quality, and most importantly, access to ASUS forums! If you have any difficulty setting up your motherboard, or facing any challenges during the process, ASUS has forums that you can make postings on and ask questions!

This is very very helpful, when faced with situations like this motherboard's double-boot (which I will get to). You can learn from others' experiences and how they fixed them.

Now the double boot works like this: you start up your computer, it doesn't get to the operating system yet, then suddenly turns off. Before you know it, it's up and running again from the beginning and this time it goes through. It can be annoying. Apparently it's easily fixed with a BIOS upgrade to the motherboard; however, I do not have a floppy drive so I'm having a hard time doing it. If you go on the forums or search the net, people will tell you how to do it on a USB jump drive.

The digital audio out is optical. The analog audio jacks have sensors that pick up when you plug something in; software pops up asking how you want to use that hole. I've found that to be really helpful.

The motherboard picks up temperatures accurately for me, as far as I know.

I overclocked my processor easily through the motherboard's BIOS; in fact I did it the first time I turned my computer on, it was that easy. I just changed one setting.

Finally, if you have a large video card with a giant cooling fan like me, you need to choose a motherboard that has room for the cooling fan. Otherwise small things might get in the way of the cooling fan and then you can't install the video card. This one has room for a cooling fan!

Low cost/high performance motherboard.

Strengths: Best pricing at this level, decent layout, ability to overclock, board layout a plus.

Weakness: Double boot issue with stock bios, firewire not included, not compatible with RAID setups.

Abit set the bar high when it introduced this motherboard with these features at this price level. While it's not perfect, you can't find this kind of performance with any other board for the money. It does have an annoying double boot issue, but it is fixed with the newest bios release. Also, you won't find firewire on this board, but if it's that important to you, you can always buy a pci board and add it after the fact. If you are a gamer, you will be happy with the overclocking ability of this motherboard. And for all my friends out there with windows on their cases, you will like the design of the board with the blue passive heat sinks and blue board. Overall, well worth the money!

Great value

Strengths: Low price, will be compatible with CPUs that still aren't released. Gigabit ethernet and up to 8GB RAM

Weakness: Computer restarts when booting before getting to windows, but it only takes a few extra seconds

It's really nice to have this board for such a low price and for it to be compatible with future CPUs so I won't have to upgrade my motherboard just to upgrade the CPU later on. I overclocked my E4500 on it from 2.2ghz to 2.77ghz with no problem, and I'm sure it can go higher but I haven't tried since it's blazing fast as is.

Budget Overclocking Board

Strengths: Low cost, ability to fine tune RAM and CPU settings, quality construction

Weakness: large board (ATX) will not fit in small cases, double post issue (fixed in beta bios), no frills board means added cost to install PCI cards to get features that usually come standard in motherboards

I have owned and used this motherboard for about 2 months now and am quite pleased with it. Its shortcomings are well known (no legacy ports, no SLI, no Firewire, etc.) but it was designed as a low end budget board. Abit does make more capable boards that cost a bit more, but if you are looking for the best bang for the buck, this is it. This board is well liked by overclockers like myself. Through the bios one can fine tune memory timings and speeds as well as CPU speeds. This ability to change so many settings is not common among low end boards.
I have had no issue with the placement of the IDE slot that some users have complained about. I have a large case so that may be the reason I can deal with its placement. The one issue I and many others have is the placement of the reset jumper right next to a PCI slot where it's hard to get to. I use a pair of needlenose pliers to reset the switch when I need to.
Abit is still working on an improved version of the BIOS. The last official release available on Abit's site is version 12, but if you search Abit's forums, you can find out how to download and install a beta version of the bios which fixes the double post issue (so long as power is maintained to the motherboard). The main concern about double posting is that it starts the hard drive up, then cuts power and restarts the hard drive before it has a chance to spin completely down. This is not good for the hard drive. I'd recommend using the latest beta bios, which as of 11/30/07 is reported to be reasonable stable. That is what I am using with the board now.
As of this writing, abit has discontinued this board and replaced it with an even lower end board that in my opinion falls short of the IP35-E. You may still be able to find the IP35-E at some retailers or on the used market. Despite its shortcomings, I highly recommend this board if you intend to overclock and you are on a budget.

Highly overclockable, great bargain motherboard

Strengths: Solid P35 board with high overclocking capacity, Cheap price, reasonable features

Weakness: ICH9 south bridge with only 4 SATA ports. Double boot issue

I purchased it from mwave with a $20 rebate for a $66 after rebate. I have overclocked a E2140 CPU from 1.6GHz to 3.1GHz. I also own a Gigabyte P35-DS3R board and can not tell the overclocking difference between the two boards. This is an awesome deal. BTW, new beta BIOS (ver 13) partially fixed the double boot issue, but when you do a cold boot, the issue is still there. I keep BIOS ver 11, which is reported to be better for overclocking.

Great bang for buck

Strengths: Stable, lots of overclocking capabilities, fan control

Weakness: double boot, no firewire

I bought this board with an intel e4500 processor. Had a $20 rebate at the time. I made the jump from AMD. So far, this board has delivered. It's currently overclocked about 25% on air and perfectly stable. I'll probably buy an add on firewire card as I like that for video editing over USB.

The double boot issue is strange, but there are many forums on-line that helped me understand what was going on.

It also has good control of fan speed so that the fans automatically quiet down when not running intensive applications.

ABIT IP35-E motherboard

Strengths: lower price, good overclocker, 4 ddr2 slots, 1333FSB.

Weakness: No parallel port, no serial port, only 4 SATA headers.

Great motherboard for the price. Would be perfect if it had a parallel and serial port. Uses JMicron for PATA. Runs cool and has great bios for OC. Running E2180 at 333x10 effortlessly.

very nice board, especially for the cost

Strengths: 100% stable, even on stock BIOS, very easy to setup, works 100% as advertised, and then some. Very cost effective.

Weakness: There really are none. Those issues that do exist I knew going in(such as the double post, no RAID, No firewire, etc.) I understand that all of the P35 chipset boards double post(initially).

This board is extremely stable, even while running my E6550 @ 3.33Ghz with stock vcore voltage, and with the stock cooler. The latter here currently is not an option since I use a small case where the PSU sits right above the CPU. The double boot 'issue' is really not an issue, unless you're so strapped for time, that you cannot handle waiting another 6 seconds for your system to boot *from* a hard boot. This issue does not exists while soft booting(reset, or reboot from within windows).

everything works right out of the box, as advertised, and if you're having 'issues' with this board, you either have a bad board that needs to be RMA'd(it happens to them all), other bad parts, or you need to look into the mirror for the cause.

Simple 1 Ghz OC on a E6550(revision G0)by entering the BIOS, dropping the memory ratio to 1:1, bumping the MCH voltage up one notch to compensate for a slight vdroop, and finally by changing the external clock to 475Mhz. If you're using DDR2 6400 memory, make sure your memory can handle 950Mhz DDR2 speeds with these setttings !

Seems to initially POST fine with Corsair XMS2 6400 v5.1(Promos) memory. If you're having issues with your memory not posting, you may want to consider buying a stick of cheap 1.8v JDEC DDR2 compliant memory to make it into the BIOS for memory voltage adjustments.

For what it is worth, this board and the IP35-E are very similar in almost every way, except for the obvious bells and whistles, and this board only uses solid caps around the 'PWM' section instead of on the whole board. Once initially installed, with all drivers properly installed, I have had zero issues with this board since I've been running it.

Abit IP35-E

Strengths: Price. Stability. Abit quality.

Weakness: No Fire-wire. Only 4 SATA connections. No RAID. Picky about memory.

Pretty basic setup using Intel E6750, EVGA 8600 GT, 2GB DDR2 800 memory and Maxtor 500GB HD. After installation, computer would not boot. Seems the IP 35-E didn't like my OCZ Reaper HPC memory. Had to go into bios and adjust memory voltage to 2.1. After that it booted fine. Dealt with the common double boot issue by installing latest beta Bios (13). Had it running for 3 days now and it's very stable. Paid $66 for this board after rebates and couldn't be happier with it. Have not tried overclocking yet. Haven't had a need to do so.

Price, Price, Price!!!

Strengths: $70. AR + shipping, stability, overclocking ability makes this the best P35 MB for the money.

Weakness: No raid, firewire, or Crossfire ability

No problems setting this board up with my quad processor and Crucial Ballistix ram. Abit has a beta bios out that solves the double boot issue. Compared to the pro version, it does not offer Abit's µGuru chip and software for advanced monitoring. There is also no reset CMOS switch, no on-board power/reset buttons and no LED status display. For the price, these missing features are no big deal to me. It is as stable and overclocks the same as the more expensive pro version.

Best motherboard to pair with your core 2 duo

Strengths: price; solid design; good options to overclock;

Weakness: not really

This is the second Abit motherboard i've owned. The last one (NF7 Rev 2.0) made me determined to buy this one. I was upgrading my computer to a C2D (E2180), and was looking at this one and also Gigabyte P35-DS3L. They are very similar in specs. This one is on sale on Newegg and had a $20 rebate. For $70 total i got a top-notch motherboard for overclocking my E2180. I have yet to test more, but a quick 2.66GHz ended up effortlessly on my first try. I read people hit 3.7Ghz with this mobo. I'll see how i'll end up.

This one does not have onboard RAID or firewire (compare to its brothers IP35 and IP35 pro) but that's fine with me.

This is the best bang for the buck if you are an overclocker for sure.

Great board

Strengths: cheaper, good for overclocking

Weakness: double boot, no RAID and firewire

Double boot issue is annoying, but new 1.3 bios can fix it.Overclocked e6750 from 2.66 to 3.2GHz easily at stock cooling without increasing voltage. If you don't need RAID and firewire, this is a great choice.

Great no frills board

Strengths: P35 Chipset, price, Name brand, performance

Weakness: Dbl boots known P35 chipset issue., but if you know how to flash your BIOS a beta is available from ABIT which fixes this.

I have been piecing together a new build for 10 months, but bought the meat of the system this last month, E4500, XFX overclocked 8600GTS, and finally this week the Abit IP35-E. Great thread about this board at Anand Tech forums which sold me on it, and $76 after Abit / Pricegrabber rebate didn't hurt. This board is a very very good overclocker, my E4500 hits 3.0 with no voltage adjustments, in time I have no doubts about 3.2 mhz with a few tweaks. Others have managed 3.3+ with higher voltages. You won't find Firewire or RAID with this board, but a vast majority of the folks don't need it. You can always buy a PCI card down the line cheap if you need these features at a later date. You can find Firewire PCI cards for $12-15 bucks, RAID a bit more, the add ons will be as good if not better anyways vs built in.

Just buy it!

Solid with a little work!

Strengths: Stability, overclocking

Weakness: Stupid placement of CCMOS clear jumper between PCI and PCI-E slots makes clearing CMOS a big hassle!

Board would not POST or give vid signal with Patriot 6400, but finally did with Crucial Ballistix 6400. e2160 rock solid at 3.0GHz! Board plus chip cost me $144!!!

Abit motherboard more than capable

Strengths: budget overclockers dream, cheap, solid, several bios options. Large northbridge and southbridge heatsinks.

Weakness: still waiting for double boot fix, however according to several sources, abit is close to releasing it. No raid, and very few USB ports, but these were known previous to my purchase.

I ended up with this board strictly based on price as I was able to purchase it after rebates for around $55. In the end however, it turned out to be a great overclocking board as I was able to get my Q6600 up to 3.2ghz on air. The board is more than stable and I am sure there is plenty of room for oc-ing. The P35 chipset is known to be a great overclocker and has severed my purposes well.

Abit IP35-E Motherboard

Strengths: Professional-looking board,BIOS options, excellent overall features, good overclocking.

Weakness: No Raid, poor BIOS support on Abit website, no SLI support.

Purchased this board as a part of the Mobo/CPU combo from Fry's. Set it up with my new E6750 and everything seems to be working great. The board is easy to work with and everything is marked very well. The manual is clear and thorough. Seems to be very stable and reliable. Great value for a well equipped board!

IP35-E Motherboard Review

Strengths: supports core 2 duo and quad core, overclocking is a breeze

Weakness: more IDE please

I've had this motherboard for a few weeks now and haven't had any problems with it. Overclocking was relatively easy, and so far, the board seems extremely stable w/ my core 2 duo processor. If you can get it for under $100 as I did, I would recommend purchasing it as it's great for a mid-grade board.

The only thing I don't like is that I wish it had more IDE connectors. I know that's old school technology, but considering how many IDE hard drives I still have, it would be nice to have IDE connectors to go with the SATA. Still, it's a minor nitpick for what is a very solid board.

Stong Board

Strengths: Overclocks well and easy for a noob, stable, supports all core 2 duo chips, cheap!

Weakness: double boot getting fixed via bios, currently beta bios, new boards nowadays only have 1 ide.

This was an easy board to setup, and i overclocked my E2140 right on bootup to a easy 2.7 via stock voltage and cooling. Bios setup is a breeeze and is doesnt go too far in detail which is good sometimes if you dont half of what they mean, just need the basics to overclock. yea the ip35-e is missing a few features its older bros have but its price cant be beat. Normal users who dont use Raid, dont need firewire, this board is for you

Would buy again

Strengths: Overclocks well out of the box. Price! Does well with Quad core. http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=237448 http://m1.freeshare.us/172fs691352.jpg

Weakness: Double restart is annoying, and some may miss the lack of RAID support.

Well as I have said, runs great with a Q6600 G-0, right out of the box. I am stable @ 3.7GHz and can clock to 4.0GHz for brief pi runs. I will need to go water to keep that stable. I actually like that the NB is not connected to the PWM area via a heatpipe. That way you avoid heat being dumped from the NB to the PWM. You can pop the NB heat sink off without disturbing the PWM area if you decide to water cool it or replace it.

Voltages options for this mobo are off the charts. I could set them way higher than I would ever dare for things like; Vcore, NB and memory.

Lots of memory settings are available directly from the BIOS.

I was flippin' shocked when I set 1.65v and a 445FSB x 9 and this mobo booted through like I set stock.

BTW a Thermalright Ultra Extreme clears the high NB heatsink with zero issues.

This thing thoroughly spanks my old BX2 as far as quad core overclocking goes. I could not pass a 390 FSB with that mobo and have already done 445 x 9 with this one.

The double restart is my only complaint. This is the best 70usd mobo I've ever owned and honesly as far as raw overclocking goes it shames some of the 200usd+ mobos I've owned.

Skip i975x and get a solid mid ranged P35 mobo for your quad. If you want RAID try the plain IP35.

The Best P35 Price/Performance

Strengths: -Overclocks to 500MHz FSB with a capable CPU and RAM -Quiet all passive heat sinks -All Japanese solid caps and other Japanese solid caps throughout the board -Robust BIOS

Weakness: -no RAID (good deal if you don't raid and want to save $) -no 1394a (no big deal since it is only 10% faster than USB 2.0)

Easy 384MHz FSB with my E4300 and 488MHz FSB with E6320. I've see CPUz validation post with this board and the quad 6600 @ 4.0GHz!

Fan speed control works with 2-pin and 3-pin fan if set to 3-pin fan in BIOS. Default is 4-pin fan support. Be sure to go into BIOS and set Vdimm to 2.0-2.1 if you don't have RAM that's rated at the official 1.8V standard.

Always zero format the old hard drive before use. After final assembly, reset CMOS before attempting to boot.

great bang for the buck, stable so far

Strengths: Overclocks well, bios works right out of the box, excellent price with the ongoing rebates lately.

Weakness: So far I don't see any other than it lacking features (firewire, etc) that if you do want you expect to pay more for anyway. Would have liked four PCI slots instead of three, but most have 3 nowadays.

Normally, new boards have revised bioses out pretty fast, but then I realized this board doesn't particularly need one since it already works well. I don't want to bash my gigabyte DS3 since it was one of the earliest C2D boards available, but compared to my DS3 hassles, the IP35 just plain works -- my two IDE/PATA drives even work great with it, which were a nightmare on my DS3. I don't consider the double-booting a big deal. It takes an extra five seconds, and it really only matters if you reset your computer a lot. I'd need to use it longer to give it a highly recommended score, but so far it's been on 24/7 without a hiccup.

Great budget overclocker!

Strengths: Low price Excellent overclocking options Supports Intel's future Penryn processors Very stable with no fsb holes

Weakness: Double boots at cold startup

I upgraded to this board from an old Gigabyte DS3 and am very happy with my purchase! The board had no problems taking my E4300 to 375x9, and the only voltage changes were to the Vcore. Any time I took the bios to an non-starting setting, I simply unplugged the PSU, hit the power button to discharge any remaining electricity, then plugged the PSU back in. This should allow your computer to post and the bios will be set to the last working setting.

The double-boot issue upon a cold start is annoying, but not that big of a problem. I've simply gotten around this issue by using the S3 suspend feature. This will shut down all your computer components and put your motherboard in sleep mode. S3 only consumes 1 more Watt of power during suspension (7W) as compared to a system shutdown (6W). These power readings were measured using the kilawatt meter.

Abit is back

Strengths: Great price; Overclock utilities

Weakness: double boot issue

It's a decent motherboard with new Intel IP35 chipset. The bios has many overclock utilities which allow you to adjust detail settings of processor and ram. It runs fast and stable. The only issue I have is that every time I turn on the system, it has to boot twice to post. I did some research and found that it is a common problem for this board and I think it has been well documented by Abit and hope a new bios will be released soon. One more thing is that the stock ram voltage is 1.8v so if you have rams that need 1.9v or higher voltage, you have to change the bios setting first. It's a very nice motherboard especially for the price with $40 rebate. Highly recommended!

Excellent Budget P35 MB

Strengths: Price (especially w/$40 Rebate) making it the cheapest P35 MB. Cool looking MB with all the features you'll need for budget build.

Weakness: Cold Boot issue (may get fixed with BIOS update), doesnt use all-solid capacitors like Gigabyte's P35MBs.

I have been looking at the Gigabyte's P35 MBs for monthes, for my High-End (Q6600) and Low-End (E4500) build. When combined with the rebate and coupon savings, the final price of this MB was less than $65. I was looking at Gigabyte's P35 DS3R for Low-End build but with that price, I just couldnt pass it up.
