Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Beautiful screen. Plenty of memory. Great sound. Love that it is a full screen.

Weakness: Difficult to restore palm programs from previous pda. Unstable OS. No instructions or manual on how to use the new drive mode or file transfer system. Speaker on the back of the pda. No cradle.

I upgraded from a T3 to the T5. I had a nightmare of a time restoring my info from the T3. The problem was that some of my programs were too big. I use alot of medical programs that take up alot of space. I wound up installing everything from scratch instead of restoring info by hotsyncing. I finally figured out how to use the new file transfer system which made everything so much more simple. If only I knew how to use it from the beginning. Now I know where to put what files and everything is up and running. So far, so good. I would definitely recommend this pda if it is your first one. The new file transfer system lets you drag and drop install files right into the pda, no long hotsyncing times. If this is an upgrade and you use skyscape programs, go to their support page before you try to restore. I also think that the top of the line product should have a cradle included, my T3 had one.

You said something about medical programs. Can you/we put text book in this flash memory and view it in palm or not.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Stylish & lightweight. Can be used as a USB drive (very cool!) and mp3 player. Internal memory, as well as card memory available. Great color and long-lasting battery.

Weakness: The T5 does not work with your accessories/adapters from the T3 or other Palms. That means having to buy all new accessories! No built-in wi-fi access.

This is a great PDA--it's the third PDA I've had in the last three years (I'm a gadget person and love the latest-greatest) and definitely the best one yet. I was a little frustrated that most of the software and peripherals that I had been using with my T3 were not compatible, but that's getting better as more software vendors port their software over to the T5 capabilities. The display looks awesome and I love having the ability to utilize the full screen for movies and photos. The battery also lasts quite a bit longer than any PDA I've had before, and with the built-in flash memory, if the PDA runs out of battery, you won't necessarily lose everything. Great buy--would definitely recommend it!

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: This is my first PDA. Its worth a deal.Very good battery life. Jump drive feature gr8. Word & excel docs dont require any conversion s/w. Hot sync very good. Hand writing tool very good. Great looks

Weakness: In particular no weakness. I did not consider Wifi as my criteria so no probs for me. But then this PDA has lot of flexibility. I dont think it has any weakness.

Great deal for the price. this PDA is very versatile to use. The processing speed is very good. It has very good file transfer feature. Easy to use. It can be used as a jump drive. The best part is that the hot sync feature exchanges info between your PC and PDA so both devices are in sync with each other. The PDA has good resolution. Sound quality is good for the speaker of the size of PDA. It has one expansion slot which is enough for a PDA.

In short, its a revolution in the PDA world.

Palm T5

Strengths: Fits in shirt pocket, larger screen which is nice for things like spread sheets

Weakness: Does not alway work, software hangs up, connector is weak.

I had a Palm M500 for about 4 years and decided to upgrade only for the color. I had discovered that the engineers that I work with did not use their PDAs when because their’s did not fit into their pocket. I was always the one to have my PDA handy in meetings and available for retrieving phone numbers and data. I use it for scheduling by syncing with MS Outlook. This is the best thing ever. I highly recommend the purchase of a PDA that is painless to carry.
Now for the bad. I am now on my 4th unit. The latest replacement recently arrived and I am in the process of evaluating it. Now the connector hot sync connector has gone bad. The software results in random hang-ups. Advantgo will sometimes download and sometimes will not download. I never had these problems with the M500 and regret having made the change.
Palmone service has hand me on hold for over 30 minutes on a toll call. I later found out I could get through the 800 number for technical issues, but they do not make it easy to discover this fact. Once I get through to tech support they typically make me go through all the tests that I have already performed. On the average I would say it takes >30 minutes of talk time to get tech support to agree there is a problem and to take action.
In summary, if the thing worked without issue and the cable was somewhat robust I would be very satisfied. Currently I am an unhappy customer that really likes pocket sized PDAs.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Slick design. Excellent screen. Easy navigation. Fast.

Weakness: Expensive

Very nice product. The processor is fast, good for games as well as word processing and spread sheets. Nice graphics with a high resolution. Excellent sound quality. Although capable, not practical to be used as MP3 player since it drains the battery. Good memory available to store files and pictures. The MMC/SD card slot is very hany and practical to transfer files, but even better, it can be connected to the computer directly and used as an external flash/hard drive.
I like this PDA. One of the best.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: nice form factor, comes with bluetooth, memory can not be lost due to low battery. full size screen

Weakness: the digitizer is inaccurate, making data entry very inefficient

this was supposed to be the model that everyone was waiting for. a full size screen pda with virtual graffiti, and still in the classic palm v/palm m505/tungsten e form factor.

the new type of memory in the pda is great. Normally, if you let the battery drain, you lose all the data in the pda and you have to rely on the backup that the palm software automatically makes whenever you last synced. But chances are, if you haven't charged in that long, you probably haven't synced in that period of time. With the tungsten t5, you don't lose any data. it is just like a memory card for a digital camera or pda. all the information is still there even if there is no power.

HOWEVER, the really bad thing about the t5 is that the digitizer is very inaccurate relative to the pdas with dedicated graffiti areas. The digitizer is what makes you able to input words into the pda using the stylus. I have used many palm pilots, including 3 sonys, and 3 palm branded pdas. This is the most inaccurate out of all of them. It is to the point where i would sacrifice the extra screen space to be able to input words more accurately. I have tried using a different t5 in case mine was defective. it was still very inaccurate.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Has a good battery life, doesn't need to be charged all the time. Has a lot of memory, you really don't need a memory card.

Weakness: For a beginner, like me, it was hard to figure out, it comes with no manual, the online manual is huge and it's hard to find what you're looking for. The screen isn't as nice and bright as an HP.

I like the fact that it's small and has a lot of memory. I especially like the flip cover that comes with it. It protects the screen but doesn't add a lot of bulk! It holds everything I need including my digital pictures. Now that I've figured it out I really like it. It just took me a few days to figure it out.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Ability to hot sync data from other palm pda, bluetooth capability to interchange with my nokia 6820

Weakness: Price is a little steep

This PDA appears to have the quality much like the Tungsten T3, but with much more memory, and a fixed display with the landscape/portrait layout. Very sleek and versatile. Photos can be transferred via bluetooth or by just viewing the compatible SD memory from my Casio camera. Very useful for carrying photos in your pocket.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Sharp screen; stylish finish; lightweight; powerful

Weakness: no

I upgrade my zire 72 to Tungsten T5. The zire 72's(not special edition version) blue paint started to peel off. This one looks very cool and stylish. It is also very powerful with fast transferring speed. Easy to use.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Powerful and with the expansion provides everything I could need for both personal and business use.

Weakness: Haven't found any.

Been using a Palm for over 7 years. The Tungsten T5 is the best product they have. Looked at the Treo650, but didn't like.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: This is my first PDA. It was very easy to initially set up and get started with basic calendar and task features. Synchronization with laptop is very easy.

Weakness: Documentation on PDA is very limited and no hard copy documentation provided. Thus it's a struggle to learn about the capabilities of the device.

Learning about this PDA's features and capabilities has been a slow process for me due to limited documentation on the device itself. The features I have learned to use (mainly calendar and tasks) have worked well and synchronization to my laptop occurs without problems. Figuring out how to use other features such as how to synchronize with my Hotmail contacts list and how to backspace / delete has been a chore. This device has more computer power and features than I've been able to figure out how to use. For the few features I've used to date, I probably overpaid. Performance of the device has been solid with no technical problems to date.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: memory

Weakness: slow

Its nice to have a PDA versus the old planner. Bulker and heaver ;[
The T5 is a bit slow in running the word docs and programs. The screen quality is good. Having all the neccessay files at hand is nice. All in all it was a good purchase.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Easy to use for the novice PDA user. Online manual for Mac users is extensive.

Weakness: First download of files from CD to desktop was incomplete.

This is my first PDA and I've found it fairly easy to learn my way around the unit. Installation documentation that comes in the box is incomplete for us Mac users. Still, it's a good machine. The storage on this is huge compared to earlier models. The screen and graphics are extremely sharp. Hot Sync is easy and quick. I'm finding the move from paper to PDA fun on this unit.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: * Awesome color screen * Lots of memory -- can use as USB drive to transfer files between work & home * The enhanced Palm organizer applications (tasks, contacts,...) *Its a great tool overall

Weakness: * Setup took some time(see below) * Periodic syncing problems with Outlook Calendar (using Outlook 2003) * Since Palm changed the connector, I have to buy a new keyboard

Overall, I like the device though its a tad bigger than my tiny Palm M500.

Challenges with setup: I initially tried to follow the recommended upgrade path by syncing my M500 and then connecting my T5 and syncing it. It tells you which applications no longer work with Palm OS 5. After messing with it for a little while, I decided it was simpler & cleaner to connect the T5 to my Outlook account. After that, I just re-installed the needed applications (since many of my old applications were no longer needed). I still don't have my Outlook mail connected to the Palm VersaMail application.

COMMENTS AFTER 6 WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP:
Though I still really like my T5, its less reliable than the previous Palm devices I've owned. I've had trouble with the Outlook 2003 Calendar getting out of sync. I'm sure if its a Palm issue or an Outlook issue but I've been able to find the answers I need at the PalmOne website. The T5 definitely requires a bit of "nurturing and care."

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Color display, light weight, amount of memory, functionality

Weakness: Flipcover not compatible with leather case, no cradle included

This device is extremely useful for my scheduling needs; I love being able to synchronize information between my computer and the PDA and, with all the memory available, I plan to add software that can make utilizing my calendar even simpler. This is my second PDA and it is a big step up from my palm m105. Now my information *and* pictures of my beautiful kids are always handy. The T5 has a great color display. I got used to the flip cover being on top and would have prefered that kind of flip cover, a hard one just like the m105. If the T5 had a flip cover similar to my old m105 and came with a cradle, the T5 would be just perfect. A good PDA is a must have for persons in business for themselves and this one pretty much fits the bill for me.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Nice design, great memory, battery holds up well, Bluetooth is good!

Weakness: No wi-fi, some compatability problems with other Palm products

This is my third Palm product. Several years ago, I began with a Palm V, then a Palm M130, and now I've upgraded to the Tungsten T5. Since I was aware that there is no wi-fi and can do without it, it isn't a problem for me--and with a laptop enabled for Bluetooth, that is a great feature for file transfer and hot-synching (although slower than the connections I'm accustomed to). The design is much like my first Palm--yet much faster, of course, and MANY more features. I especially like the photo & video viewing and the landscape view option.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Awesome color screen! Plenty of onboard memory.

Weakness: I would like it to include bonus palm os games or additional bundled software for the high price tag.

Lightweight and attractive. Easy to setup and install. Can easily go from portrait to landscape view. I like how it can be used as a MP3 player...cool!

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Very good display. Easy to use.

Weakness: Included free keyboard is difficult to use.

This is by far the best of the 3 Handspring/Palm products I have owned. Plenty of memory for loading additional apps and data. Display is clear, colors are great. Easy to see except in direct sunlight (sun shining DIRECTLY on screen). Battery life is very good and unit is usable while re-charging. The use of a charging cable instead of a cradle makes this easy.

The Palm hard case protects the unit well is is convenient to use. It took a few minutes to understand how to open and close it (you slide the two halves laterally a fraction of an inch to unlatch it), but once learned, it is easy to use. The only concern is that the unit seems to flap a bit against the front and back halves when closed. I am tempted to affix a small piece of felt or foam inside one of the halves to secure the unit. The case has slots to carry 2 expansion cards.

The free Universal Wireless Keyboard currently offered is a disappointment. The Palm just sets on a shelf and is not secured in any way. The keyboard does not lock open. These 2 deficiencies make the keyboard very difficult to use on anything other than a stable, flat, hard surface. Using it on your lap is almost impossible. Beyond that, the keyboard works fine. The keys are close to full size and the infrared link means the keyboard is ready to use just by setting the Palm in place. No cables or connectors to deal with.

Overall, the T5 is a great unit and a recommended buy.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Easy Read Display, Good Color Quality,Light weight, FOnt options

Weakness: Difficult to sync

I've used Palms for the past 6 years and have been very happy with the ease of use. The T5 has some great features and seems very flexible. I like the display and font options. I can read the Palm in any light or place. I did have trouble syncing the old data into the T5. It took several tries and Palm resets to get it all over. For a new user, this could get real frustrating. The on-line Palm help is hard to use.
Overall, I like the unit.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Awsome display, and amazingly stylish PDA

Weakness: Little larger than ideal, but OK

The first thing that strikes you is the amazing screen; size, brightness and graphics. Make my old CLIE seem very aged. This unit has the palm os and all the benefits that comes with that...

Battery life is much improved over my past PDAs and I love the fact that I can watch movies and listed to my music in those times between meetings and flights..

Overall a very capable product with much to recommend it..

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: Great memory, bright screen, great new OS, can become an external drive, don't really need to HotSync because of that.

Weakness: none if you are a new palm user. if you're upgrading from T3, might need some time to get use to the features, might see T3 as a better PDA since it looks better.

Although not as pretty as T3, this PDA has better features in my opinion. It has a large 256 MB compared to T3's 64 MB. If you are going for looks, then T3 might be better; but this one sure has lots more features and does more. All in all, T5 is better in the inside, T3 is better on the outside ;)

Strengths: Screen is gorgeous,Good Color Quality, great design, fast with well laid out software

Weakness: No vibration support

I have been using this PDA for about 12 days, and so far I am very happy with it. It is a basic PDA priced well and easy to use. This Palm has a wonderful, large, colorful display. The processor is fast. It launches things quickly and switches easily between programs. I really love this product!

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: It is fast and the electric power better than T3.

Weakness: plastics body, Some software still have problem to install. No Wi-Fi include.

I used to use M505. It is not bad. And I tried the T3 already. I still like T5. Even it is not include Wi-Fi. So far it is good enough for me. Just it is hard to find the hard case. I have the palmOne T5 hard case. But it was broken. The problem as like my M505 hard case. I ask the palmOne the problem. Then could not solve it. So, then allow me to return it.

Palm Tungsten T5 PDA

Strengths: large screen. non-volatile memory.

Weakness: Unstable with MANY 3rd party applications including backup software! Screen not bright enough to use outside in the sun.

Long-term Palm user- very disappointed with poor support and denial of problems by Palm Tech support when 3rd party software vendors reveal that Palm has acknowleged problems privately to them!
I am locked into Palm so have switched to a Tungsten C. Main drawbacks now are smaller screen and back to volatile memory.

AWESOME PDA!

Strengths: Screen size & ROTATION! Easy to use & lots of apps avail., TONS of storage, very small & light, document editing & syncing - great for school.

Weakness: Can't get connected to the net through the USB cable, no Wi-Fi, can't create docs (only edit).

Got a good deal through PriceGrabber on this one, $250! My first PDA and I love it! I didn't try it or any other models before I bought it (or check specs) and I just accidentally seem to have gotten the best PDA out there!

So far for me no connectivity to the internet through the USB cable sucks. But I probably have it set up wrong; tech support was no help. Would've liked Wi-Fi but the LifeDrive is really expensive.

The screen rotation is awesome and I like that the Grafitti area collapses instead of always being 'up'. My favorite thing ever is to go around the house turning on and off anything with a remote using the IR port... so much fun! I have recommended this PDA and pricegrabber to others!

Palm Tungsten T5 Review

The Tungsten T5 is the successor to the popular Tungsten T3 and is palmOne's flagship "business" PDA. Not that you can't use the T5 for multimedia, but its fast processor, plentiful memory and lack of camera put it in the business class. While the Tungsten T, T2 and T3 featured a unique slider design, the T5 has a slate form factor and doesn't slide.
