MS Student with Encarta Preomium 2008Strengths: Ease of installation, features Weakness: Price I bought this program simply for the Encarta features, but I was pleasantly surprised by the features that "Student" offered. This program includes assistance with Math that includes an interactive calculator that can figure out Trigonometry problems, algebra, calculus, and more. The Language Arts section offers assistance with the most popular languages being instructed in school. This program is packed full of other programs that can assist your child with help on their homework. I like the fact the Microsoft included the ability to download updates to the prgram and to the Encarta encyclopedia so your information is always up to date. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Great for middle and high school childrenStrengths: Includes a ton of information, updates, and math calculator Weakness: Would be nice to have more languages for translations Great for middle and high school students. It includes some book summaries, that can be quite helpful. The calculator is very helpful. The encyclopedia is excellent. The search abilities are extensive. It searches many things at once (encyclopedia, dictionary, maps, website, etc.). Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Adequate for many grade school projects
Strengths: Good integration of multimedia.
Weakness: Still lightweight compared to a real encyclopedia
WE've been using Encarta in one version or another for the last 6-7 years I'd say. It continues to have the best multimedia integration of any of the encyclopedias we've tried, but it still can't compare in content to the good ol' print version of E. Britannica. Simply lacks depth and scope, too many topics not covered at all. It works fine for mainstream topics, where we usually rely on it as a good starter for school projects.
