Asus again.......

Strengths: Famous Asus quality, performance and value.

Weakness: Famous Asus design/layout flaws.

Once again, I turned to Asus for my motherboard needs, and as the last 3 times, good choice and money well spent. I read mixed reviews about this board, and I started to waver, but I'm glad I took the chance on this one. I have only good opinions of this board thus far. I have 2GB of Crucial PC2-8500, an Intel Quad-Core CPU, and an 8800 GTS video card installed on this board, and I could not be more pleased. Install was a breeze, and BIOS is comprehensive and straight forward. Plenty of over-clocking parameters to tinker with, although I have not done so yet as I have plenty of power as is. Asus always seems to find a way to toss in a negative or 2 on even the best boards, and they have done so again. The SATA connectors are too close to an installed video card, as are the memory slots, making for a tight fit with little to zero wiggle room. The EIDE connector is also in a poor spot to acomodate tall cases with optical drives mounted at the very top. Small gripes that do not detract from the overall great experience I've had with it thus far.

Asus P5KE/WIFIAP Motherboard

Strengths: Bought this particular model from Asus based on technical reviews and customer experiences and overall goal of maintaining a very reasonable budget for assembling my new PC.

Weakness: None so far -- I only needed to update the BIOS firmware after inital BIOS power up.

I've been a developer for many years and have ordered PCs from different vendors throughout. I decided to "build" my new PC based on many positive experiences (and warnings) from different technical websites and co-workers. I'm quite impress with the Asus P4KE-WiFi Edition in making my first assembly practically painless. The board is well laid-out, components are clearly identified and the accompanying instruction guide helps a great deal in understanding how best to install/configure the motherboard and the components installed. This motherboard, coupled with the right components (processor, memory, graphics card) was well rated for overclocking -- something I'm assured to pursue as I continue to enjoy my new PC.

P5KE/WIFIAP Motherboard

Strengths: Great flexibility to attach just about anything you want. Lots of slots, USB's, 1394, easy to overclock and more. Trouble free so far and very easy to install.

Weakness: None

While I have built many computers in the past this was my first experience with an Intel LGA775 board. The install was pretty routine but when I first tried to boot up all I got was the CPU fan and the case fan to pulse on for a few seconds. I was forced to RTFM and lo and behold buried in the manual was a one liner that tells you that the computer will not boot if you don't have a secondary power cord from the power supply plugged into the motherboard. Plugged it in and it has been humming ever since.

I have a similar problem, with P5K-E wifi, Q6600 G0, PSU 750w Thermaltake.

Since first starts Bios won't post, no video signal, Fans & Leds run for 2 seconds than everything except MoBo light switch off for 2 seconds and Fans & Leds start again and so on the same cycle.
I have 24 pins connected as well as 8 pins ATX12V, is there a third power connection on this MoBo, I could not find it as some other MoBo have a 4pins connector slot for extra juice for PCI-E 16X.

Yes I have the same motherboard and have the exact same issue. I would really like to know what is happening. I just purchased the MOBO 3 days ago and put it in my new system with all brand new parts and became very frustrated about this. I'm using an FSP 600w PSU but I did connect another working PSU to determine my new PSU was not the issue but it still acts up with the other PSU.

I have posted a trouble issue with ASUS and will post any resolution we find with this problem here so others might know.

Great for the price and a new builder!

Strengths: Easy to follow manual, quality build, intuitive bios, and quick setup

Weakness: I had an initial problem in which it required the CMOS to be reset, but ever since it has been stable. Back I/O plate was a little misshaped as well.

I bought this Mobo after extensive review of other choices for building a Q6600 build. This one popped up on my radar when I saw it on sale at an online retailer. It has 6 SATA ports, more than enough for what I wanted to do. There is one bad thing about the placement of the SATA ports in that larger video cards protrude and cover up some of the ports. The situation is workable with my 8800gt but with a bigger card, like a 8800gtx, I see loss of usability of these ports and a frustrating install. This was my first computer build and really, besides having to reset the CMOS (which is explained in the manual) I had no other issues. Memory was recognized at the proper timings and no compatability issues arose with my Corsair PSU, Seagate HD, Nvidia graphics card, or OCZ ram. The audio quality is good, better than what was on my old AMD Gigabyte board. The great feature, in my opinion, that separates this from other boards in the same price range is the wireless capabilities. Although adding a wireless card is cheap nowadays, it was nice not to have to go through the hassle of finding one that would work. This worked right out of the gate and I have a strong signal that has never dropped. The board evidently overclocks well as there are numerous guides on the Internet utilizing the P5K series. This is something I will explore in the future. Overall, it was great to work with the board and I am excited with my new computer. It matches many features of the P5K deluxe with wifi at a significant discount. The heatpipes provide adequate cooling as well as I do not think the board grows warm at all.

P5KE/WIFIAP

Strengths: GREAT board great OC

Weakness: No mouse plug in

AI Suite is OK, better working your OC'ing through BIOS if you know how (or can read up on it) - the update program is good but the site never seems to have a valid file, you need to download the new bios version and look for it through this program

ASUS P5K-E Motherboard

Strengths: Has 6 SATA connections and copper heatsinks.

Weakness: Does not support 533FSB RAM, atleat when you have a processor with 1333FSB.

The fist time I powered on this motherboard it wouldn't POST and found out I had a bad processor. The second time I powered on the motherboard it wouldn't POST and found out that this motherboard would not take any RAM under 533FSB, atleast when a CPU of 1333FSB is installed. ASUS claims there should be no problem with RAM of 533FSB, but there is. Everything else about this motherboard works good and I had no problems running Vista Business 32Bit. This is not my favorate ASUS motherboard but for the price you can't beat it.

Great board for the price!

Strengths: Good layout, good BIOS, easy to tweak utilities, well made with decent features.

Weakness: None, so far.

I put together a Intel CORE 2 DUO E6850 system with this board running a EVGA 8800 GTS graphics card. Zero problems, extremely stable, averages 90 FPS on FEAR with settings turned all the way up. I am very happy with this motherboard, one of the easiest builds I have done.

I researched many motherboards for a P35 system and just couldn't find a compelling reason to buy a more expensive board as this had a nice feature set for the money. I have been running it non stop and it works great.

Asus P5KE/WIFIAP

Strengths: This is a very satble motherboard. The Bios makes overclock very easy.

Weakness: SATA connectors are too close to an installed video card

I would like to recommend this board to someone who is looking for a prefect MB. I have ever assembled over 20 desktop computers and used several different brands MB. Asus is the only one I highly recommended. Not only the quality, but also the performance is still very great. Although the price has a little bit higher than others, I think it is worth the price.

Decent MB

Strengths: Stable

Weakness: None

It is a decent MB. I used it to replace my MB comes with my combo deal for a C2D 4300. It runs stable. And the options for your OC under windows environment is great, it makes the OC job much easier. And the function for auto recover after a system hang (due to wrong settings during the OC) is also good, you no longer need to open the case to reset the CMOS! Another good feature is BIOS update. It give you an interface under windows to update the BIOS, and also allow you update a BIOS under BIOS setup page from any USB drive/CD-rom (you do not need a bootable DOS disk!!).
So far, I love it. Asus is the brand I can trust for MB.

Good P35 board

Strengths: Runs well, good features, decent BIOS options.

Weakness: P35 boards still a bit more than 680i.

Overall, good P35 board. Good mix of features and price. I continue to have good luck with Asus boards (20+ builds with them) although some think their quality has slipped in recent yearsbut I have not experienced this.

9-way Intel P35 motherboard round-up

Anyone looking at building a new desktop system should not look any further than Intel Core 2 processors, and when time comes to pick a platform you should have Intel's own P35 chipset in mind as it officially offers 1333MHz FSB support and will be compatible with upcoming 45nm processors. This translates in a fairly 'future-proof' platform, with some models currently available supporting DDR3...
