The first iPod worth owning

Strengths: Small, thin, light, plays fluid video, the best user interface around, superb battery life, finally cost comparable to competitors of similar memory size, matte finish on front

Weakness: Glossy finish on back prone to smudging and scratches, video requires conversion time before being playable on device, can be a little too small to watch lengthy videos, size and shape...

I've never owned an iPod before because none of the flash memory based iPods were capable of playing video. Additionally, they were more expensive compared to competitors of similar sizes. Now, the cost is about the same, this new Nano can play video, and everything is about right.

The battery life literally lasts 24 hours on a single charge, and it still boasts the touch-sensitive click wheel that makes it ideal for long podcasts or audiobooks which is my primary use for the iPod.

However, video doesn't play on the Nano unless you take time to convert it. The device's shiny back also picks up finger prints like crazy. The stout, thin shape also isn't as comfortable to hold as the iPod Classic or the old iPod Nano, but it does make it more pocketable.

Highly recommended. I'd give it five stars if it weren't for the stupid glossy back.

IPOD 3RD GENERATION 8GB MP3 PLAYER

Strengths: It is small and compact with a good battery life. Videos are clear!

Weakness: The case marks easily!

This is my first ipod! I like how compact it is and how I can take it with me wherever I go. I love the video feature and how clear the picture is. It is a great product for the price. I would purchase it again.

Spending $ 200 !!! Should be more than just an mp3...

Strengths: Very much portable !! Stylist and cute !!! Great battery life if listen to music only

Weakness: Scratches very easily, Complicate to transfer videos and Must use ITunes to sync with computer

It is very good for listening music but not so good for video as LCD is a little small to watch video for long periods of time. I was excited at first to see video but I couldn't play any of the video files that I have on my computer , as it doesn't play unless you spend time to convert it. very comfortable to hold and portable. Overall it is very nice, but a little bit highly priced.

Small package packs a punch

Strengths: Small form factor, 8 GBs of space, matte finish, video capability

Weakness: LCD is a little small to watch video for long periods of time, not much new software

This is the third iPod nano I've owned, and it's by far the best one. Just when you think they can't make it any smaller, they surprise you with this new slim form factor. I can barely feel it when it's in my pocket. The screen is bright and clear, though a bit too small to view videos comfortably for more than 30 minutes. The controls are intuitive, indicative of all the recent Apple products. There aren't too many new features (cover flow), but the new form factor makes this iPod a must-have.

Once again, Apple comes out with another excellent...

Strengths: great big beautiful screen, movie playback

Weakness: none

Once again, Apple comes out with another excellent product! Here are some pros and cons about the nano.

Pros: - Has a great big beautiful screen (2 inches)
- Battery life is excellent! I got my nano about
3 weeks ago and it still hasn't died on me.
- Sleek, smooth design
- charge time is very quick (about 3 hours for full charge)
- Interface is eye candy
- sound quality is pretty decent with the provided ear buds (I would recommend getting a better pair of headphones though)
- Movie play back and picture browsing is crystal clear

Apple Ipod Nano 8gb, 3rd generation

Strengths: Compact design while still keeping screen size. Battery life before recharging.

Weakness: None noted at this time.

This is the second nano ipod I have purchased in the last twelve months and like this one even for because of the video playback and the ease of downloads for the Itune store.

Good for mp3s, useless for video

Strengths: Sleek design, good navigation for mp3 files

Weakness: Can't play any popular video formats. Must use ITunes to sync with computer.

I'd give player 4 stars for it's audio abilities and 0 for video, that's how I came up with average score of 2.
The reason I gave 0 for video is because I couldn't play any of the video files I could find on my computer. Not the mpeg2 files I ripped from DVD, not the Avi files I downloaded from Internet, not Windows WMV files, not even Apple's own MOV format as recorded by my digital camera... Even when I used 3rd party software to convert videos to supposedly recognizable format, I still couldn't load them to Ipod.
The curious thing is that MOV files, at least I was able to load in Itunes... but then it failed to sync them with Ipod anyway.

The verdict: Forget video, it's a good, but overpriced mp3 player.

Thank you for letting me know that it is not easy to transfer video to the Ipod. I was planning to use it primarily to view MPEG files ripped from television DVD from my collection. It would have been a big waste of money to purchase this. My suggestion to anyone who wants to listen to music is do not purchase apple products. I purchased a similar 4GB MP4 player that plays music and video. I paid only $34 for it. Stop giving your money to Apple. That company is a major rip off.

Super Slim iPod nano w/great User Interface (UI)

Strengths: Slim, UI, battery life, can play photos & videos

Weakness: Back is shiny chrome (scratches easily), small scrollwheel

This is my 2nd iPod. My first iPod was a 4gb 1st generation iPod mini in 2004. I only have about 6gb worth of music - so the nano was a great choice for me. I also go to the gym 3-4 times a week and I always bring my nano along. The battery life is very good (claimed to be around 23 hours). I did also transfer some photos and videos on the new iPod nano and they do look pretty nice. In the tech specs, the Nano has the highest PPI out of the new iPods (including the touch and iPhone), this makes the photos and videos look nice & crispy on the screen. Although, the screen is a little too small to watch videos and now I don't really bother with the trouble of converting stuff to videos. I mainly use this to listen to music while I'm at the gym and in my car.

Great iPod and I'd recommend it to all that is looking for something small/slim with this range of storage capacity (4gb - 8gb).

Ipod

Strengths: Everything

Weakness: The back of it scratches easily.

I have never had an ipod or ipod nano, but a lot of my friends have it and they let me use it sometimes. All the times that I have used one it seemed so cool. For Christmas, I have begged my mom for one , she says she will get me an ipod nano black.

One of the best iPods so far

Strengths: Very lightweight. Screen is small, but not too small.

Weakness: The back scraches easily so get a case for it.

I had a 2nd Generation Nano that I lost, so I got this to replace it. I have had it for about two months and have loved it. It is very compact and the screen is the right size to watch a personal movie. I would highly recomend it to runners because it is very lightweight and you can get a arm-band so you can listen to it while you run.

Good, small ipod

Strengths: Battery life improvements, decent navigation, quick response, good sound quality

Weakness: Pricey, does not come with wall charger, no belt clip

The small form factor of this ipod is both good and bad. I'm a tall guy, so it's sometimes awkward using the scroll wheel.

I could find no major problems yet with the basic operation of this 3rd gen Nano, although I've had issues with my older ipod (mainly battery and crashing issues) so I'm hoping this one holds up. Battery life on this thing is much better than my older ipod.

Audio and video quality are acceptable for me on an ipod this size.

I did not like the lack of a belt clip, although I never owned a Nano so perhaps they never had belt clips. I think the Ipod mini had them, and I guess you can buy a hard case with a clip if you want one.

I wish ipods still came with a wall a/c adapter charger. My old ipod came with it and they are a great help so you don't have to charge your ipod with your PC. These things are expensive as well when you buy the Apple brand a/c adapter separately.

Ipod nano 8gb black

Strengths: crisp clear lcd, nice matte front, battery life, price

Weakness: back prone to smudges and scratches, crappy earbuds

This is a great unit for anyone who wants an affordable player that works well.
It hold up to 2,000 songs based on 4 minutes per song or up to 8 hours of video.

Apple iPod Nano 3rd Generation 8GB Black

Strengths: Looks better then the previous Nano and has a bigger screen.

Weakness: The menu is somewhat hard to get use to.

This 3rd generation iPod Nano is small and sleek. It has the same solid feel as previous iPods but refined into a sleeker smaller design. The 8GB of space is pretty great too! The only quark I have with the iPod Nano is that the font is very small and could be a little bigger, easier to read. A nice added feature if you get the iPod from Apple is you can have them engrave whatever you want on the backside of your iPod, a nice personal touch. And I also recommend getting the Apple Care extended warranty.

As is!

Strengths: Very small and thin, nice interface, video

Weakness: DRM infested - defectivebydesign.org

This has all the functionality of the hard disk iPods (5'th gen, classic) but VERY thin and small.
Similar to all iPods though, unfortunately, it is DRM infested - defectivebydesign.org

Great Ipod engraving sucked

Strengths: audio video

Weakness: Free engraving from onsale.com

I love the Ipod and everything works perfectly, the only problem is the engraving that is free faded off in three days of opening the package.

Great update to a great product

Strengths: Huge screen, increased memory capacity, new navigation system, small size, video playback

Weakness: Metal back

This is a nice update of the iPod nano line overall. The screen, navigation, and memory upgrades are the most noteworthy. However, it is too bad that Apple went back to the metal back style that is a fingerprint magnet. This is the only downgrade from the previous generation. Otherwise, a quality Apple product that will keep you happy.

Just about the cutest gadget I've ever owned!

Strengths: The size of this ipod is just amazing and yet, very robust and sturdy. I guess thats because it's made out of aluminum. Oh, I can't say enuff about its visual display either.

Weakness: Ironic that it's weakness is its size. I feel like I can lose it whenever it's out of my hands. It can easily be stolen or swallowed up by a flaw in the time-space continueum.

I love this lil gadget as it has kept me company with lil complains or excuses. Apple has a nack for making really high quality products and this is no exception to their awesome craft. Call me what you will but Apple and their products have been good to me and I will continue to do business with them. This nano will help flame Apple's continued success.

My First iPod Nano

Strengths: sleek and small. Easy to tuck-away in your pocket.

Weakness: For the price I would have expected a little more from this tiny mp3 player.

I would like to see a more variety in colors for all of the iPods. I don't like that you can only get certain colors with certain storage capacities. I opted to get this one because of the color but if they had it in the 4GB (which you can only get in silver) I would have purchased the 4GB.

iPod nano 3rd Generation 8GB MP3 Player

Strengths: Compact, ease of use, screen size, price

Weakness: iTunes download, headphones, reflective metal back

I highly recommend getting this. I purchased this for my husband for Christmas as the price was irresistible. I immediately opened it and found it to be very compact to hold in the hand. He will be using it while jogging and found other mp3 players difficult to scroll through and see in the sunlight. Since it had the reflective metal backing I went ahead and purchased a silicone case and the shield to protect it. They look great together. The headphones are not great. My son used them and the headphones he got from his Creative mp3 are of much better quality. You definitely have to spend extra $$ for better headphones. The Apple ipod Nano can't be beat!

sweet and simple

Strengths: small, great sound quality, great design

Weakness: chrome back side scratches easily

i purchased this as my second ipod. my original ipod was the 20gb ipod 2nd generation. this is obviously a great improvement, it is much smaller and the screen is surprisingly clear. another big plus is the battery life which makes it a great device to use on the go.

Best iPod yet!

Strengths: Tiny size, huge screen, great new software, just feels great

Weakness: Reflective metal back

Wow...Apple manages to keep improving their products again and again. This is certainly the best iPod they have made yet. The 3rd gen nano is just a beautiful music player on the outside and the software inside is now great to match as well. The screen is really improved over that last iteration, as is the overall size and shape. The only drawback is the reintroduction of the reflective metal back which is a fingerprint and dust magnet. However, just buy a case for a few dollars and things will look great!

Apple continues to outdo itself

Strengths: Small, plays video, a great revision!

Weakness: None

A great, small device--works as advertised. Plays videos flawlessly. Syncs with iTunes as with the previous iPods that apple makes. Easy to run with, very portable, fits easily in your pocket. Battery life (14 hrs) as advertised when playing music. Enough battery for playing a couple videos on a cross country flight in the US. A great iteration. If only the price was $50 less!

Apple iPod Nano 3rd Gen | 8GB - black

According to Apple the iPod Nano is the most successful portable music player in history. Up until now the device lacked many of the features found in its bigger sibling. The new generation of iPod Nanos remain smaller, thinner but now include video playback and photo viewing features. To accommodate the new display intensive features the form factor of the Nano is substantially different. Known...
