a smart hardware making login easier

Strengths: size, convenience

It's a smart hardware that makes login much easier than traditional way. You can choose any two fingers from your ten and store the fingerprints as password. After that, you never need a keyboard or a mouse when login. The only drawback is that the windows startup time delays a few seconds after installing the driver of the fingerprint reader.

Good product

Strengths: Good price - Got it for 49.99 3year ago, now I see it go down to 20 dollars.

Weakness: Only work with Microsoft software like IE. If you don't use IE for web, don't buy this product.

I don't have to type in my password to log in to my windows XP. I like the function that you can store your web log in information in to the database that you can just do fingerprint log in to your online banking. But some web sites like ING did not play well with this scanner. Also, if you using any thing other IE, this product is not for you.
However, you might want to update the software from microsoft websites. The later one is more stable.

Great Little Gadget

Strengths: Easy setup. Small takes up little space.

Weakness: Security, not sure how secure information is. Reader stays on all the time.

Not a bad little gadget. Price was reasonable. I am still trying it out. I have a lot of sites to visit and make profiles for. Intial setup is really easy.

Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

Strengths: It really does what it says. Once configured, which was easy to do, it will log you in to different sites with one finger scan. Can be configured for different users and multiple fingers.

Weakness: Some sites were a little trickier to configure. Those were the sites which use an email address as a log in. The device allows that flexibility. The infrared light on the reader stays on all the time.

I would buy it again. I'm not sure how ironclad is the security to actually access the files and the stored info and whether or not that info could be used to bypass the required finger print scan and log on to sites. It is not recommended for financial or secure/sensitive info sites.

MS Fingerprint Reader

Strengths: Easy to set up

Weakness: lack of password generation

I bought this fingerprint reader yesterday. it was very easy to set up. Just pop the cd into your drive and the software prompts you all the way through the process. Once the passwords are entered into the program you can forget about ever inputting them. You can make the websites for which you have passwords appear within the fingerprint program or not. The product was a good value for the money. Highly recommended!

Precise, Hassle-Free, Very Convenient, and...

The Microsoft Fingerprint Reader is an excellent gadget! It is precisely what someone like me needs badly (using the PC all the time, sitting in front of it most of the day every day, slightly varying passwords to numerous sites, etc). With that said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this to someone who only uses their PC on occasion, or just doesn't have to put up with a million user names/passwords.

This device is very accurate. Scanning and registering my fingerprints was very quick and easy. I did not have trouble the first time at all. It's small, sleek, and it compliments my desktop quite nicely. It's very much compatible with numerous programs (Netscape Mail & Newsgroups, Internet Explorer obviously, Netscape browser, G-Mail Notifier, and many online games), and almost ANY site with a login screen.

Simply put, this device is as perfect as fingerprint readers get. It's highly compatible, no technical problems**, no complicated installation, and it's very easy to clean: simply stick a piece of Scotch-tape on the optical sensor and gently pull it off. Again, I highly recommend this to people have many uses for their computer, along with wanting a complimentary addition to their desktop.

** Why only 4 stars?? I have a few of these fingerprint readers (home/work/notebook), and it seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes you get a great unit, and other times the one you buy might take 10 to 20 scans before it recognizes you--EVERY TIME you want to use it. If that happens, most stores have a great return/exchange policy that will allow you to exchange defective merchandise.

Microsoft fingerprint reader does its suppose to

Strengths: logs you into the computer. multiple accounts on window easily accessed and swtiched with fingerprint. All passwords stored and easily log in. no need to type anymore.

Weakness: some sites are a little tricky but only encountered one so far out of 50 and firefox does not seem to work with it, only internet explorer.

I really like this unit. Would buy it again. Easy to use. Easy to configure. Does what it should. It's cool gadget. Only thing, if you use firefox only then don't use this as it will irritate you. Hopefully firefox will come out with a plugin for this.

Finger Print Reader

Strengths: Easy set up, Excellent Product to maintain your passwords

Weakness: None so far, Its better if this product also available in wireless mode

Microsoft Finger Print Reader is a great tool to manage the passwords. One major drawback of this is that if you have multiple login on one website then it will not support, for example if you have two account on same email say GMAIL then you can only configue only one account on this. It will not allow you to add options. Overall its good product.

Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

Strengths: The hardware and software was easy to set up and configure.

Weakness: Accepting fingerprint (see comments).

The reader does not always register the fingerprint login. On some attempts I had to reapply my finger a number of times before it accepted the fingerprint. One weakness of the system is loging into a business website which has multiple subaccounts. The fingerprint reader could not distinguish between the subaccounts.

Great product

Strengths: Can have more than one username & password on any site, easy setup, fun to use, lets you touch the screen and then pick a web site from a list, and will automaticly log you on to that site.

Weakness: Light is always on, one time got an error that I exceeded power to my usb hub.

This was a Christmas present, that when I got it I thought what do I want this for. Turned out to work allot better than I thought it would. Microsoft even allows for on any web page, you can have multiple usernames and passwords, so, to check my kids at school (grades, etc.) I hit the button and it asks me which login I want to use, even lets you change the names, so it asks my kids names, not the numerical number the school assigned. I do wish the light would go off after an hour of being on, it requires you to push the button to read your fingerprint, so it should be an easy fix for release 2.

Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

Strengths: Once set up, works very well.

Weakness: WSeems to only work with Explorer (no big surprise there). Won't work with Firefox. Doesn't work with websites which have a log-in on one page and a password on another (at least I haven't figured out how to make it work yet.

Still brand new to this so I don't know if it will allow me to save passwords and log-ins to a separate file. Idea behind the reader is to give you an unlimited number of passwords, but if I have to remember them all (or write them down somewhere) then it doesn't have quite the same utility (though, in all fairness, it may have this capability and I just haven't discovered it yet.)

This product does not work with new computer with IE...

Strengths: Works only and only with XP with IE 6.0

Weakness: Outdated product. No longer work with Microsoft current envirnoment.

Used for over the past year and it workED great with IE 6.0. Now with IE 7.0 and even with new driver from Microsoft, this MFR will crash IE 7.0 and slow down IE 7.0 whether you used WinXP or Vista. Best test site is to use eBay, crash very very often!
P.S. It will NOT work with any other Internet browsers. As of today 9/4/07, this product is strictly for used with IE 6.0 period.

Not satisfied

Strengths: This device does read the fingerprints without trouble, and seems to work well with Internet Explorer.

Weakness: This device will not work with firefox, and, more importantly, it cannot be used for windows logon in a domain environment.

It is not acceptable for a Microsoft product to not work on a Microsoft domain. For anything more than a home user running in a workgroup with IE, this device is next to useless.

The best solution for passwords

Strengths: Reliable, fast, easy to use, works with IE and Firefox, accurate identification

Weakness: No 64 bit support; works only with XP/Vista

The hardware piece is well designed, rugged and works very nice. The software that comes in the package is very easy to use.
The worst con about the product is now over: the reader does work with Mozilla Firefox web browser. All you must do is just installing an add-on, available at www.fingerauth.com....
Unfortunately, the reader can be used only on Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. There's also no support for the 64 bits version of these systems.
The most up-to-date version of the software can be found at Microsoft's website (hardware section), and as of now it's 2.0.0.1. All users should upgrade to this version, since it has more compatibility with websites and more features than the previous version.

Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

Strengths: Very fast, accurate, reliable and accurate

Weakness: crashes the system

small sleek cute reliable..thats what i would call it..easy to configure and takes less than a min to get going...remembers sites and logs in at the touch. But has been causing problems with other devices and occasional system crash. So so rating...should be more crash free
