Works good with MCE

Strengths: It works with the regular windows media files like mpg, wmv.

Weakness: Could not figure out how to make it work for real media files.

Costs about same as the DVD extender for Xbox and has added functionality.
It would be great if there is someway for it to play real media files too, I was able to make my MCE PC play real media files but still couldnt get Xbox extender to play them. Maybe its not looking at the pc for the decoders.

Microsoft Media Center Extender For Xbox

Strengths: Can use as a DVR and hooks up MCE 2005 computer to TV

Weakness: Could be a lot easier to set up, requires a lot of hardware

Installing this product was fairly easy. You install a computer CD and then a DVD in the X-box. The two components find each other and you are off and running. A general complaint that I have it that Media Center, in general, really does a poor job organizing your music and video collection. If you already have things just as it likes it, then this works very well, otherwise making playlists and slide shoes can be a real pain. I am using a Linksys G network, which works totally fine, no problems, delays or anything. This will not work on a B network. Go to microsoft's media center website and explore the requirements. The hardware components necessary to get everything up and running are expensive and plentiful. If I didn't already have everything I needed, I think I would have just found a TIVO on rebate.

Least expensive and most robust Media Center Extender

Strengths: Inexpensive, easy to use.

Weakness: None comparted to other MC Extenders

This is an awesome product. This is the best option if your looking for a Media Center PC extender device. For the price of an used X-Box (any Game Store sells used $75) and this device (total $100) it costs less than all other extenders.
