Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: Better cooling than some waterblocks out there, and cheaper priced than almost every one. It is perfect for the newer hot Intel P4s, or anything else. This unit comes with a manual fan speed control.

Weakness: A little over two pounds of almost all copper on this model. Need to check the Zalman website and make sure your specific motherboard is listed as compatible due to this things size.

Even after reading "IT"S HUGE" everywhere and viewing pictures, seeing (And lifting) this cooler in person was a surprise! Find a large item picture of a 7700 model unit, and imagine a standard CD where the fan is, inside of those fins, and you might start to get a feel for the size! So again, check your specific motherboard against the extensive lists on their website for compatibility.

This unit dwarfs everything inside my case, and provides cooling to both the top of the hot graphics card and the hot power components near the processor, along with the system RAM and even the northbridge chip. The temp readings from my Radeon 9600XT with Overdrive enabled have really dropped, which was an added bonus!

Unit even comes with thermal grease, but I wanted the best so I used Arctic Silver 5, and my idling temps have already dropped ~5c degrees. I am running a 2.8C P4 overclocked to 3.43ghz and at idle it's 37C. I'm using a Northwood, and the temps do not even reach 50C under full load @ 3.4ghz! I think Prescott users, especially those over 3.2 need to upgrade to this cooler just to run a cool system!

Unit comes with thermal grease, an outside the case manual speed control, and all the installation parts needed. I have a socket 478 P4, which happens to be the easiest socket to install this onto. Installation was a breeze and took minutes.

Since I ran out of room in the weaknesses box, here is one to remember. This cooler is way over Intel/AMD specs on weight. So be careful if you plan to lug you heavy computer around places where it’ll get jostled!

I would buy another if I needed one, this is a great, and quiet, cooler excellent for anyone that wants silence or needs powerful cooling. ~700-1900rpm from lowest to highest settings.

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: 120mm fan for better cooling. Cools rams, videocard, southbridge, and motherboard. Quiet at 1000-2000 rpm (20-32 dba) Cools better than vantec fan that has 40 dba and 5600 rpm by 3-5 degrees.

Weakness: Heavy (2lbs) Pricey ($50)

I have this installed on an 1.8 ghz cpu and asus p4p800 vm. After installing this for one day, i have noticed that my comp improved in performance because of excellent cooling. This coolers was allitle harder to install than average because of the size and weight. My processor is now running as low as 24-25 c according to sisoftware sandra 2004sp2.

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: Amazing cooling. Low noise, even on normal mode. Looks awesome!

Weakness: Heavy

This fan is great. I have my Athlon 64 3400+ running at 29 degrees Celsius idle, and only up to 32 when playing Half Life 2. This is also helping keep my motherboard at a chilly 23 degrees Celsius. I highly recommend this product to anybody that wants the ultra fan cooled system.

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: 120mm fan for better cooling and quieter than stock heat sink fan

Weakness: a bit heavy

Installed this on a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe and a 3.0Ghz Northwood Intel without any problems. Temps dropped 9-10 degrees Celsius under full load to 42C. Its quiet enough so even at max fan speeds i cannot hear it over my case fans and psu. Only problem is that the mounting bracket for socket 775 mother board came broken, but i have no plans on using so its fine with me

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: Very heavy, cool looking and low noise, very quiet.

Weakness: Make sure goes to Zalman's website to check if your motherboard is compatible and how to install it (installation movie).

I built my PC:
Motherboard - ASUS P5GDC Deluxe
CPU Fan - Zalman CNPS7700-Cu
CPU - P4 3.2G Socket 775
Memory - Kingston ValueRam PC3200 512MBx2
HardDrive - Hitachi DiskStar SATA150 - 250G
Maxtor Ultra ATA133 - 80G
DVD +-RW - Pacific DVD RW
Video Card - XTASY 9200SE 128MB PCI
PSU - Antec TruePower 430
Case - Antec P160

I am a java programmer not a gamer and I am very happy with this CPU fan. It runs extremely quiet, the CPU idle temperature is 43C and normally 50C, up to 58C when it is full loaded. The highest temperature I have ever got so far is 60C. BTW, I overclocked my CPU by 10% to 3.52GHz and the temperature is no change. Good product!

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: This cooler has one of the largest fans (120mm) available, which also makes it one of the quietest, a Zalman reputation.

Weakness: It is very large heatsink, and a potential user should consult the Zalman website for motherboard & case restrictions for height & width.

I've used Zalman heatsinks before and it's easier mounting the heatsink to the motherboard & CPU prior to installing both into the case. I used a P4 (LG-775) CPU in a ECS 915P-A motherboard, replacing the stock Intel heatsink. The results were impressive, the idle temp's dropped from 48 degrees Celsius to 40 Celcius, with a significant reduction in fan noise over the stock fan. There was no interference between the heatsink, motherboard,or the Lian Li case w/power supply. The loaded CPU temp's were at or below 50 degrees.

Not great for Pentium 4

Strengths: Quiet

Weakness: Not enough for pentium 4 3.4ghz

This is a large and heavy heat sink which apparently are great for AMD processors but not too great for INtel pentium 4's as it does not rotate the 120mm fan fast enough for the amount of heat put out by the latest pentiums. But it is very quiet. It would allow the processor to go from 40 degrees celsius to 62 degrees even when just encoding a DVD.

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: quiet

Weakness: Heavy

You need check that your mobo and case have enough space to accommodate this huge cooler. By the way, you also need disable the bios fan alert. In the break-in period, the fan doesn't cool down the temp too much, but after you put enough arctic silver 5, it will work greatly

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: Very quiet, solid construction, good documentation, good website with videos that illustrate how to install,

Weakness: Not an easy install in my situation: had to remove motherboard from case

This cooler really works well; it has lowere the ambient temperature inside my case by 4 degrees Centigrade. It allows you to manually adjust the rotational speed and is very quiet. I've never seen such a large cooler before - it's easily twice the size of the stock Intel cooler.

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: The unit moves a lot of air by comparison to the OEM heatsink.

Weakness: Extremely important that you measure the surrounding areas where the unit is installed. I followed the instructions on the website and at installation found my powersupply was in the way.

This is one big chunk of copper and you need to be extremely sure it will fit not only on the MB but also all the surrounding areas. I had to purchse a new case that had the PS located several inches from the edge of the MB.
I also had a problem with the speed control and hats off to the company as they replaced the entire unit without any reservations. Outstanding product support from U.S. distributor..

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: Quiet and cool.

Weakness: It is huge!

Outstanding performance. Very versatile, will fit numerous type of sockets. However, make sure that it will fit your specific motherboard! There are several motherboards that this heatsink will not fit. This heatsink is good enough to sacrifice a specific motherboard for, there are many quality motherboards that can use this heatsink. Not only will it keep your CPU cool, but its airflow is good enough to improve the temps in your case as well.

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: Better cooling/quiet and easy to install. I recommend this heatsink/fan cpu cooling if your using any prescott cpu. It has cooled my cpu in a warm room from 49c to 37c at normal operating conditions.

Weakness: The fan is much bigger than intels heatsink/fan so make sure your motherboard layout will work with the Zalman cnps7700.

This product works good. I'm using the P4 3.2e prescott using intels cpu cooling heatsink/fan and in normal operating conditions the cpu was running around 49c. Using the Zalman cnps7700 it now is running at 37c. Because the fan is much larger than intels it is much quieter. I recommend this product especially if your using the p4 prescott cpu.

Zalman CPU Cooling Fan

Strengths: Excellent cooling, low noise

Weakness: Size

This fan is a work of art like most of Zalman fans are. I could not hear the Zalman fan noise with the power supply (ThermalTake 680) in the background. If you overclock or just want a cool looking fan, this one is for you. The only downside is the size that may interfere with memory and peripheral cards installation. I am contemplating cutting two fins off of my Zalman to allow DPS installation on my Gigabyte K8-NXP-SLI motherboard.
