Good drive, Average noise

Strengths: Excellent all-around drive. The white face is handy if you are going with a light colored case.

Weakness: Bezel a little difficult to change if changing the installed black face to the included white face (see comments for tips).

Excellent all-around drive. One reviewer said it was super-quiet. However for me the noise was average. Not bad, but not "quiet", and I had installed it in a quiet Antec Sonata Designer case. I recommend this drive. The white face is handy if you are going with a light colored case. Be sure to read the visual instructions on how to get the black face off. When it comes to the final step it is not a matter of just sliding the tray face off - you actually first have to bend one edge towards you. Minor issue though. Go Asus.

Buy it

Strengths: reliable, quiet and fast

Weakness: none

Worth every cent plus more. A lot of features for the price. Do not hesitare to buy this drive, I'm buying three more. I've had Lite-On and Plexors. Lite-On's break and Plextor is good but priced too high. Asus is as good as any and less money.

ASUS Aces

Strengths: Quiet/Fast read times

Weakness: Price

Drive is so quiet and fast (no coasters) worth the extra dollars, high quality unit. The lightscribe, SATA and changeable faceplates (White/Black) included. This unit is easy to install and set up. Excellent buy.

ASUS SATA 20X DVD Burner with LightScribe

Strengths: SATA = Fast! ASUS = Quality. Very flexible capabilities, LightScribe, NOT expensive, Quiet. No coasters.

Weakness: None for me.

Noticeably faster than EIDE. Comes with Black and White face plates. Very easy install, both physical and with Vista (32bit). Came w/ Nero 7 Essentials software. Burns CDs & DVDs with no problems, even the cheap brands.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy again, especially for $35.

Great Drive

Strengths: Performaance

Weakness: none

This is a good performing drive - reads and burns very well. A little loud at times. Light scribe works well but takes time and I really prefer printable cds and dvds. This SATA drive definitely seems faster than my other IDE drive. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Good DVD drive

Strengths: Easy to install (except face plate), runs quick & quiet, matching color faceplate, no compatibility issues, upgradeable firmware

Weakness: Need patience to switch the face plate, no SATA cables, not greatest software

I replaced my Samsung SM-352 with this model so that I can burn DVDs. I've had it for one week so far and I got full value for my money ($45 delivered). It runs quick and quiet, and can't hear the drive over the volume of my computer fans (which are not that loud). It runs very quickly - the drive ejects right away and doesn't take long to identify a disk. Those are the two issues I concern most about. I checked out the technical specs on several benchmarking sights, and the general feedback in terms of read/write speed was that it was a good value. In any event, this drive is ten times better than my Samsung, which claimed to have faster read/write capability. It comes with Nero 7 Essentials, but the DVD player software is just a trial version, which is disappointing, but I assume I can find opensource alternatives that are just as good. Came with mounting screws.

Asus 20X DVD Burner

Strengths: Quiet and smooth transport, great writing speed and Lightscribe

Weakness: Too many logos on bezel

This is a great little SATA DVD Burner, with impressive read and write specs. It is super quiet with a very smooth transport. As an added bonus, it comes with black and white front bezel (the black is installed by the factory-- if you have an olde school case like mine, you'll need to swap it out). The bezels have too many icons and logos with huge ASUS logos on them which might turn off some folks. This retail package only included mounting screws and a Nero Essentials 7 disc, I was kind of expecting a few more goodies to differentiate this from the common OEM version. I am very pleased with the great burn speeds for both DVD and CD and have tried the Lightscribe too and was very pleased, no frisbees so far.
