GigaByte Radeon HD 2400 XT

Strengths: Crossfire ability, price

Weakness: possible heat build-up

Great budget card for a budget computer build. While this card will not play some of the more graphic intensive games such as Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Bioshock most other recent games will work fine. The passive cooling actually works quite well under most conditions. Perfect for a non-intensive gaming system but still enables HD playback options and high quality wide-screen options.Overall, a good choice for quiet HTPC.

2400XT

Strengths: Hybrid cossfire, passive cooling, price

Weakness: heat, no HD audio

Quote :
The core area was decreased by 15% after passage on 55 nm technical process.
The Radeon HD 3450 support PCI Express 2.0, DirectX 10.1
If we speak about the speed, then Radeon HD 3450 from the Radeon HD 2400 pro was detached by 27% on average , this is due to the increase in clock frequencies from 525/800 MHz to 600/1000 MHz. But if we compare those video card at equal frequencies, then the Radeon HD 3450 advantage will be reduced to 6,31%. In any case, for contemporary games such card is rather bad, but here their multimedia possibilities like video decoding hardware acceleration appear attractive for approximately $50 price."

They compare the 2400PRO with its reduced clocks and say that the clocks are the only diff. Same architecture, diff. size chips. Overall same gaming/HD experience
The HD 3450 is the RV620 core, which is almost exclusively just a 65nm-to-55nm die-shrink of the HD 2400 Pro/XT's RV610 core. Architecturally, the two cores feature the same number of SPs, TMUs, and ROPs. They're nearly identical, except most notable for clocking: the HD3450 runs at a stock 600mhz, while the HD 2400XT runs at a stock 700mhz. So the HD 2400 XT should be a bit faster head-to-head against the HD 3450, but should also be a bit less efficient in terms of power consumption/heat output.

FYI, the 780G has the RV610 core, except in 55nm.

(The clocking difference between the HD 3450 and HD 2400XT might be moot in a 780G Hybrid CrossFire setup, as I am led to believe that the clocking for the hybridized setup is reduced to that of the slowest component, which would be the 500mhz of the 780G. I know that the 780G can be OC'ed up to enable a higher hybrid clocking.)

This video card rocks

Strengths: Very good card for every day applications and basic gaming. I use this card for HTPC. It has passive cooling, but is very stable, no overheating issue. The heat sink and the vga port can be removed.

Weakness: I said heat sink and vga port can be removed, but the manufacturer didn't provide another bracket to make it a low profile card, which may be trouble for compact cases.

I think this is a great card and a budget buy. I bought it for $10, supposing the rebate comes back. It will works great for someone wants DVI but can't find one on their motherboard. With a DVI-to-HDMI cable, it is a good card for HTPC setup. I didn't try to play blueray though.

Not for Hard core gamer

Strengths: For everyday use and browsing

Weakness: Still gets very hot

After reading some reviews from other users, decided to gamble on this one. Well, for the price paid, you get what you paid for.
Very good though for regular use like Office Suites and Internet browsing.
Had to install additional fan inside the case.
Good if you pay for this less than $15.

GIGABYTE Radeon HD 2400XT

Strengths: Fast Graphics, offering completely silent cooling.

Weakness: not as good as the fan versions and the 512MB versions.

I know that someone will ask what a 256MB video card can do? I will combine the Gigabyte 780g Hybrid CrossfireX BOARD with already has 256MB on board with GIGABYTE Radeon HD 2400XT GVRX24T256H Video Card. So I have total 512 video card. The only thing I don't like about this video card is it lack cooling support.

Okay for the price

Strengths: No fan noise, TV-out

Weakness: Heat, loose TV-out port

I just added this card for my home server. Before, I had a nforce 7050 onboard chip. I don't really see any difference in playing HD divx movies. The movies that didn't play smooth still doesn't play smooth. (I have a AMD BE-2300 / 4GB ram / 500GB HDD) Windows vista rating went up a little bit, now showing Aero 3.5, Gaming 3.9. The card itself does get a little hot. My TV-out port is loose, so I have to be careful not to move the TV connection cable. This might be from too deep TV-port, not allowing the S-video to component converter fully inserting in. Also, in Vista, I don't know why but I can't get extended desktop on a TV as my second monitor. I can only use one output at a time using shortcut key to switch between displays after installing catalyst software.
