ThermalTake Thermaltake VOLCANO 7 Variable Fan Speed...Strengths: low cost, easy to install, low noise, does what it was designed to do Weakness: none I've built three computers over the last six months all using the vocano 7 to cool Athlon Thunderbird 1.330 GHZ and Athlon XP 1900+ CPUs. Temperature stays between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius running at 3300 RPM average. Since the fan does not need to run at it's max RPM of 5000 to keep the CPU cool the noise level is low. It's also a nice looking fan if you intend to have a viewing window in your computer. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

ThermalTake Thermaltake VOLCANO 7 Variable Fan Speed...
Strengths: variable speed fan.
Weakness: retaining clip
I was having about the same performance as the other reveiwer at idle. I found that diappointing for such a massive heatsink and fan. It was a nominal upgrade I thought for the Volcano6cu previously installed which had basicly the same temps within a degree.Even with the side of the case off temps stayed the same. Swithed a case fan to blow in just above Volcano 7 and voila 39C idle 42-43C after gaming had to be up to 47C originally.
I personally like the clip arrangement on the Volcano6 it retains more of the lugs on the socket.
Bottom line it wasn't as expensive as the high end coolers but now it seems to perform quite well in comparison. Seems to be all I need at present. As a postscript noise levels were down due to the lower temps the fan runs lower speeds.
