a long way to go

Strengths: dual core CPU, high-res 4.3 inch LCD, TTS with an unbeatable price

Weakness: volume is way too small.

HP really need to provide more reliable and powerful software to make use of such high-end hardware like IPAQ 310. Current software is really buggy even after a recent online update. But yes, the screen size & resolution is really attractive, way better than other GPS in the same price range.

Feature rich GPS

Strengths: Fast GPS signal acquisition, cheapest unit for the features- bluetooth, music/video player, even game. software upgrades available.

Weakness: runs windows, TTS not that great

HP had released some software update on this unit. The upgrades made the GPS function much more stable but there are some fundamental issues still need to addressed. This is especially about the TTS function that has low volume and cold machine voice. Furthermore, since the unit runs windows, it does crush from time to time.
I have to admit that with all these flaws, this is the best the amount of money can get you. One of the most function rich unit and yet almost half as expensive as the others.

Great For The Price

Strengths: Fast GPS Acquisition, Incredible Screen, Bluetooth

Weakness: Speaker Volume is Really to low for a GPS, improved by selecting alternate TTS Voices, but still not great.

This unit is a great value for the price, make no mistake this is a 1.0 products, it has some issues with occasional lock-ups and crashes. In time these issues should be corrected, but again for the price, and for what you get it is a good value.

I like the 800 X 480 resolution the display is so crystal clear and the graphic redraw speeds are nothing short of fluid.

The recalculation speeds are fast and accurate.

The POI's are unbelievable, they have my small business listed in the POI's and even lists my new address (we moved less than 9 months ago)

Awesome GPS!

Strengths: Bluetooth, Fast processor, Beautiful screen, Fast Satellite pickup, Great Price!

Weakness: Speaker volume is low. Hard to hear.

I have been very pleased with the Ipaq 310. I took it out for a test drive yesterday 7 hours straight and it performed great. In comparison this with the Garmin 650, I prefer the Ipaq 310. It was sluggish when I got it. But I went to www.ipaq.com and register and was able to download content manager. It allowed me to update the software. It has vastly improved the GPS's performance.

Needs a lot of software improvement

Strengths: 4.3 screen bight and beautiful display

Weakness: Terrible TTS function, funny route calculation

If I wanted a video, music, and phone system I would purchase them seperate. Need to carry around a manual or provide training for the "not so called gadgit oriented person". Satilite pick up was great when the product worked. After download it would not work.

The most powerful GPS ever!

Strengths: Beautiful 800*480 high resolution LCD Screen; Built-in SDHC reader; MP3 Player; Bluetooth; WinCE 5.0 OS

Weakness: The software still buggy.

I got this device at a very great price. It still has lots bugs in its software and HP release new updates very often. So, if you just want a stable GPS, then this device is not for you. However, if you are a DIYer like me, you're gonna love this baby. It's based on WinCE 5.0, has super fine 800*480 high resolution LCD, built-in Bluetooth 2.0, SDHC card reader. Also, lots of PPC softwares can run on this baby. It means that you can even use it as a PPC! High recommend to PPC lovers or DIYers!!

HP IPAQ 310 GPS

Strengths: Brilliant Screen, Slim Design

Weakness: none

This is a great GPS unit with some excellent hardware specs like 800x600 4.3" widescreen, great finish and build, 3D GPS software (third party, not HP) and fast processor. Great hardware platform. The software is innovative as well with 3D maps with buildings in major metros. The software implementation is a bit rough but i am sure HP will work the kinks out over time. Routing and maps are not as good as garmin but then no one else's is either.

Nice GPS with Some Software Issues

Strengths: High resolution screen, plays music and videos, accurate routing, solid built

Weakness: Software hangs every now-and-then, hard to hear directions sometimes

I have been using this GPS for about 3 months and think that it is a great system. The graphics are nice, due to the large and high-res screen. The unit acquires GPS signal quickly and provide quite accurate routing (though not the shortest route sometimes). The ability to play music in the background is nice, especially for long drives.

The problems I had with this GPS system are the low volume and occasional software stalls/hangs. The first problem isn't too bad, if the car is quiet. But, with some background noise, it's hard to hear the directions. I solved this by using an FM transmitter to listen to the music and directions through the car stereo. The software hangs (though not frequent) can be annoying. You have to reboot the unit or press the reset button to get it working again.

Versatile travel companion

Strengths: Hi resolution screen, dual-core CPU, TTS, relatively low price

Weakness: Unstable system, very small volume, synthetic voice unrecognizable, battery life

As a GPS, it probably has everything. USA/Canada Map, text to speech (pronouncing the street names), large wide screen, high-resolution, dual-core CPU, virtual 3D city view, media player, games, etc.
However, it also has many defects: battery life is relatively low, 1 hour without charging will drain the battery; the volume is really low for a vehicle GPS, can hardly hear the mumbling on a highway; the text2speech is also low quality, so even if you hear the instruction, you would not know what it is mumbling about; the system is not stable, crashes on the road sometimes; the 3d virtual buildings are virtually useless...
For the price, you could never find another one though. I guess you just have to bare with it if you want a do-everything GPS for

Cool GPS

Strengths: 800x600 resolution, cpu strength

Weakness: Voice, battery life

This is really a nice GPS unit. It has highest resolution and cpu power of all the GPS unit in the current market. You can enjoy the real 3D image route (However in most region 3D image is not available:P). The weakness is its TTS voice. You can barely hear that and the susan voice package has many mistakes. The batter life is only 2.5~3.5 hours around because of the nice screen resolution and power cpu. However, IPaq 310 includes almost all the accessories that you may need(car charge, car window mount tools...etc)

nice size screen - low volume

Strengths: the screen is good at 4.3"

Weakness: volume is way too low for normal driving, not the quickest in locking in a signal

this is a good GPS aside from volume for the text to speech feature. The SD slot can handle SDHC, plus, you can easily add your own programs to the system (just search the web). Using a large SD card, you can load other GPS software if you want. It just gets tricky if your software wants to store files all over the place. if it can run from a single folder that's copied, then you're good to go.
