Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: fancy, small, easy to carry

Weakness: cannot choose any song you like just as iPod or iPod mini

I like it more than iPod or iPod mini. It is a very good relax music player without heavy duty. The battery can use around 10 hours and can be charged just plug in your USB port of your computer. It's handy.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: tiny, light, long battery life, works seamlessly with iTunes, price is right on the spot

Weakness: can't see what song is playing, cryptic blinking light informs you of errors

I'm the owner of a regular iPod, and bought the iPod shuffle as I need an alternative for running, snowboarding, and other outdoor activities where the regular iPod was too bulky or was at risk of being damaged. The iPod shuffle worked so well for me that I carry it around more than I do my iPod in the weeks that I've been using it.

First the good stuff: there's a long battery life (Apple says you can get up to 12 hrs, I normally get around 10 hrs), the weight is amazing (it really does weigh less than a pack of gum), and the iTunes syching works beautifully. I just stick it in the USB port of my powerbook and it dumps all the songs I want on it from my favorite playlists, leaving all the rest of the music I rarely listen to on my mac. This is huge; I've owned a couple of USB drive/MP3 players where I had to drag and drop songs from itunes and it is a horrible way of loading music.

There are a couple of gripes: it doesn't come w/ a LCD display so you can't see what songs are playing. The main method of communicating with you about what is going on is a single blinky LED that blinks orange when it's charging or when there is an error; green otherwise. It's quite cryptic and apple includes a plastic wallet card that has a list of what all the codes mean.

Regardless, if you believe Apple's claim that most people play on shuffle, that it's best kept in your pocket most of the time, then the shuffle is a great mp3 player for you especially because of it's under $100 price point for the 1/2 GB model and the $150 price point for the 1GB model.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: The iPod shuffle is easy to use and highly intuitive. Battery life is good and the Shuffle recharges quickly via a USB connection to a computer.

Weakness: Can't see what song is playing - but, hey, Apple tells you this before you buy!

This is a great little MP3 player. I like the feature that higher rated songs are played more frequently. The software is easy to load and easy to use. Copying songs from a CD or a playlist(either Apple or another software product like Windows Media Player) is a snap. I run this on the same computer as an iPod mini - it is straightforward to maintain two separate songlists.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Very user friendly and excellent battery life. This is the first MP3 player that I have owned and I am enjoying it very much.

Weakness: No LCD.

Itunes is very easy to use and with just a click of the mouse you can tranfer music to the shuffle. I would recommend this to anyone who is not sure on what they want in an MP3 player.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Doubles as a flash drive, very light weight, easy to use.

Weakness: No LCD

The iPod Shuffle is Apple's entry into the low-cost, flash-based MP3 player market. It is one of the few flash-based players to lack an LCD screen (if not the only one), but most screens out there are so small as to be useless. Even if you do at times wish for a screen, I find that the positive features outweigh this small drawback.

One of the Shuffle's most useful features is that it doubles as a USB flash drive. The 1GB model gives you plenty of room for both music and data, and because the USB jack is built into the player, you don't have to tote around an extension cable. Also cool is the fact that the player charges while in the USB port! In my mind this wholly compensates for the complaints that some users have about the 12 hour battery life. The included lanyard is a nice touch. If you already use iTunes, you'll find it very easy to load music onto the player. Fans of Winamp will soon be able to use the ml_iPod plugin with the Shuffle.

I luv my iPod shuffle, you will too!!!!

Strengths: lightweight, easy to use, long battery life (even when it says that battery is low, it still works for a long time)

Weakness: no screen (i just put my songs in alphebetical order, so i would know what was coming), but still very easy to use

I like to use my iPod shuffle at school, because it's easy to hide during tests, i plan on getting a nano, but i will continue to use my shuffle at school since it is so easy to hide. Even if you are not the most electronically inclined person, you can still use the iPod shuffle, it's not rocket science. Buy one and enjoy!

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Simplicity, easy to use, practical for gym and on the go, and great looking

Weakness: Won't play WMA files like all Ipods

Great product, great size and capacity along with great looks. It comes iwth all the necessary items to make it ready to go. Perfect complement to the Ipod 40GB. I have teh 40 GB ipod for trips and everyday use as well as to plug in to my alpine radio in my car. I use the Shuffle now for the gym and when I'm on the go and small size helps out. Plus 1 gb of music is perfect for the gym and it's practical.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Good battery life, when they said tiny, they sure meant it!!

Weakness: Cannot see what song is playing, but then I guess you can hear it!

Have had the shuffle for a few days now and it is small and wonderful

It works seamlessly with iTunes, I got this version because of the extra capacity and the price is very good..

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: ease of use light weight

Weakness: off/ playlist/ shuffle switch is hard to move

I have been using the 1G shuffle for a few days now. I had never had an ipod before (wife has mini). Setting up itunes and loading the CD's was easy. The autofill feature of loading is easy to use. The shuffle feature is fun because you never know which song you are going to get next.

So far my only complaint is that the switch to move from off to playlist to shuffle is slick and hard to get a hold of to move.

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto. Ditto.

I have a $2.50 Solution for the disappointingly/poorly designed switch - go to your local hardware store and buy a package of 1/4" cabinet door bumpers (in clear) and attach to center of switch. Works great!

Hopefully it will still work (fit inside) when my $29.00 piece of plastic (Apples iPod Shuffle cover) arrives in about 6 weeks!

Rock on!

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: small, ubersexy, usb stick utility

Weakness: lack of lcd or led.

I had been quite hesitant about the shuffle at first. no lcd, led, or any indication of what song you're on? skipping through a couple of hundred songs to find that special track? then i had evaluated my need and use for this. Originally I had planned to buy the 512 model, but the greatest feature of the shuffle is often overlooked. It is a usb stick that can play music. its more pratical in size and function then other music/memory sticks. the price point of this model is also better then most other flash based players.

As far as the lack of lcd goes, I mostly use this for exercise, which i only load what a feel like working out to. Comparatively, i don't see many people with discmans at the gym with their entire cd library with them, 50+ songs on shuffle mode will suffice any of my daily workout routines.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Small, light, attractive. Doubles as a USB flash drive.

Weakness: Poor feature set compared to the competition.

This isn't a bad MP3 player by any means; however, it isn't for everyone.

On the plus side, this player is small and extremely light. It doubles as a USB flash drive, and iTunes autofill works perfectly.

On the minus side, this player has a poor feature set when compared to the competion. As pretty much everyone has noted, it has no LCD. There is no equalizer, and as a result sound quality isn't as good as the competition. This player doesn't have a voice recorder or line in recording. Due to the lack of an LCD, this player can only support one playlist. In addition, this player isn't expandable using external memory.

Battery life is decent, about 10 hours. This is lower than many competing players, which get 15+ hours. The biggest problem is that the battery is non replacable - if you forget to charge this player, there is no way to pop in a fresh battery.

Apple does not ship this player with an armband, which is really unfortunate considering this player is perfect for workouts. You can buy an armband for about $25; considering most MP3 players come with an armband, this is really disappointing.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Tiny, light, looks great, long battery life.

Weakness: No screen to scroll thru songs.

Great for exercising. You can't even feel the ipod around your neck! It's also great for using as an external disk drive. Using itunes isn't too bad either.. although I'm finding that sometimes the music store pops up when I'm trying to drag songs to my shuffle playlist..a little annoying..

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Compact, sleek, clips securely into lanyard, doubles as flash drive

Weakness: sliding switch on back difficult to slide, so you cannot gain thumb traction sometimes; blinking light sequence could become confusing

This is a great product for those who have an active lifestyle. I am somewhat unorthodox in that I listen to long mixes in large files so the shuffle feature is really no need for me. Doubling as a flash drive works great for those using at work. Great to run with and even pushes well when hooked in-line to a set of speakers. Go home and charge every night (through USB) and have no problem. iTunes rocks as well.

The BEST iPod for ME

Strengths: Long Battery Life, Small, Light, Extremely Portable, Looks hip hung around your neck and Easy Navigation!

Weakness: No Screen, but who cares!

I did not expect this to be the best iPod, but when I purchased it and took it for a spin, I realized I had stumbled upon the greatest portable device I would take with me. The technology isn't the best, but I anyone can get past that. Once you try it for a while, mess with the controls, where it around your neck, you'll start to love it everyday. And by the way, no matter how scratched this thing can get, it'll never look ugly, plus its not fragile at all! I must have dropped it a many times, and it's still good!

iPod shuffle 1GB MP3 Player

Strengths: Light,small,abundance of playing time.

Weakness: Power switch alittle awkward.

The ultimate music player for a city person. Extremely small and light. Discrete, low profile. Nobody will know you are carrying one. For someone who lives in a major city like I do,NYC. I Walk to just about all my appointments, it's the best. I have a mini that I use to take everywhere. But now, I use the shuffle exclusively in the city. My mini when I'm on the road. Can't beat the combo.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Very compact and easy to use. One of the best MP3 players I ever had. Huge amount of space for the price. Lack of LCD and complex control works wonder in this setup.

Weakness: Battery life could be better.

Everything is great about the shuffle except for the battery life. Even though it has 10+ hours of playing time, but I'd like to see more. Sony was able to push 70+ hours on their flash based MP3 player with single AAA battery. Their player even equipped with a backlight LCD. For iPod shuffle, we can only get 10 more hours if we add TWO AAA batteries. Other than the battery, this is a MUST HAVE item!

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: super lightweight, true bass, sexy and easy to carry

Weakness: no lcd screen, some buttons are hard to access, only work with apple's itunes

As a digital music enthusiast, one could easily have x000+ songs in iTunes library which is still growing day-by-day.

No one really wants to carry all of them around, in situations like onto a trip, cardio in gym, or stuck in commute.

So here it comes iPod Shuffle 1G. The biggest idea behind this cool gadget is to store your favorite 240 songs and shuffling even without your interference. Apple had made a lot of fine adjustments to both iPod Shuffle and iTunes, so the bundle could work together refilling the player with the greatest and most variety of music possible.

I'm lving it!

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: Great looking, good to use in the gym

Weakness: totally not display, hard to track the song/music you want to play

I passed IPOD mini, since that is kind of expensive for me, a student. SHUFFLE is the right priced and very fashion looking.
sometimes, I can also use it as a flash memory to carry some data.

The only problem I met is: it seems only be able to link to one music library. I have 3 desktop at home, if I connect my shuffle from one desktop to anther, all songs will be lost.

Am I using it correct?

You could try running iTunes off of a networked drive, that way your data would always be the same, no matter which computer you were logged into. Perhaps an external USB 2.0 or firewire drive that you could also use to store your music library.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

Strengths: That's obviously the small size. It really is about the same as a pack of gum.

Weakness: Purely cosmetic, but the white ipods and white earbuds are so heavily branded, it was strange to see that the wiring for these earbuds is light gray.

The Shuffle is really cool, just as advertised. So small you better keep your desk and surrounds neat and clean or you'll loose it in the mess. Can't blame this on Apple, I suppose, but if you are planning on using any Windows operating system below an updated version of 2000, you're in for a lot of trouble....iTunes will not work on anything below that. There are cheats, but that's not what it's about about, right? And that's the problem doing things for the Windows platform—too many ancient OS's out there because people have no good reason to give Bill Gates any more of their money. Switch to an Apple OS, problem solved, and you'll get what you pay for with the more frequent overhauls.

That's just stupid. According to the Apple site, iPods won't work on any Apple that isn't OS X version 10.1.5 or later (hint 2002). Sounds like a bigger problem for the Mac. Your advice is dumb: switch away from the Windows monopoly (OS) to the Mac monopoly (OS & Hardware).

ipod shuffle

Strengths: compact, lightweight, easy to download songs and edit

Weakness: You can't see which song is playing (but for me it doesn't matter!)

Since I use my shuffle exclusively when I run, its compact size and light weight are definite advantages. I also like that each time I turn it on, I get a new "mix" of songs, which helps my running go by much more quickly. Rather than use the lanyard it comes with, I bought a small clip so I can clip it to my running shorts. I can easily skip a song, repeat a song, or adjust the volume as I run without missing a beat.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 1GB Flash MP3...

There is not much to expect from the I-shuffle because it is entry level. Just to eliminate the confusion of other features, the I-shuffle is a good product for people that have never owned one before. Eventually if the I-shuffle is not meeting a person's needs, then there is always the I-pod. For the money being spent on an I-shuffle, I think its a good buy especially for kids, since they tend to be a little more rough or worst case it might get lost.

Great little package

Strengths: Small, versatile, easy to recharge, easy to download.

Weakness: You don't know what will play next. The earphones are delicate. I've had to replace them twice.

I've downloaded MP3's, CD's, audio podcasts, and books on tape on my iPod Shuffle. If you turn off the "shuffle" feature, you can listen to a book on tape in chapter order. I took my iPod shuffle to France for a week, and listened to it on board the plane, while walking in Paris, and flying back to the States again without recharging my batteries. You just have to be careful to turn your Ipod off when you're not listening, and finding your chapter again if you turned the machine off wrong. Great bargain for the price!

unreliable

Strengths: looks good

Weakness: doesn't work

After using the shuffle for less than a year and a half it died, with the blinking green and orange lights of death. Went to the Apple Store twice and they were completely unhelpful and clueless.

Buy something else. Apple is poorly engineered and unreliable.

Excellent sound quality, few features

Strengths: Excellent sound quality, rechargeable batteries

Weakness: No additional features

The sound quality is excellent but it lacks additional features, such as radio tuner and voice recording, that other competitive products are offering at a lesser price. Another issue is using two different PCs for transferring music. I upload my favorites songs from my desktop and, if I try to add songs from another PC running iTunes it ask me to replace the content, rather than letting me add to my current playlist.

Strengths: Does what it says it can do and is pretty slick.

Weakness: Software is limiting... designed to funnel the public towards this company's products. Loses user friendliness points in that motivation for future profit.

I like the product in general - it is light and works well for listening to music while exercising. I do not like the software or product repair process I had to go through the last time I had product failure. Due to the software, I believe I am now stuck buying their product which I don't agree with.
