Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: Good picture quality, nice looks, built in microphone, good price,

Weakness: Obtrusive software, stand feels somewhat flimsy, Possible compatablity problems with win xp sp2?

(update num 2 16th January 2004)

I think what it is or that i've read is that some or a few can go bad after a few month.? am not certain , i've tested it in 3 other machines one of which had windows 98 on still no difference. But i still say what i say that when it was working it was a very nice cam for the money. It may just be bad luck but this problem has put me off getting another one.

(!update 18th December 2004!)

I thought this was important to mention this but recently have had problems with the webcam it has been showing a blackscreen even when on rendering the camera useless. There appear to be some other people also experiencing this issue. I've tried the reccommendations on the logitech website i've also tried reinstalling windows fresh and using this as the first device but no difference. Am using service pack 2 for windows xp, i think it could be a compatablity issue with the drivers but for now this isn't working for me on my xp sp2 install! not happy.
............................................................

This is my first webcam and a friend reccommended it to me. I got a factory refurbished from ebay.

The software on the cd was an old version so i got the latest from the logitech website. Setup was very simple with a clean and easy to follow manual. There were no conflicts or problems.

In no time at all i was having video messageing with my friends worldwide. The first thing that struck me and that they commented on was how clean the picture was they also said it was easy to pick out little details in my picture. They both was using the logitech quick cam zoom and then said they wanted an upgrade. :)

It also has lots of options to tweak the picture with like contrast, lightingmode, face tracking etc or you can leave it set to auto and the cam will make the adjustments itself.

The software is very easy to use to take pictures with. Unfortunatly it creates an icon in my computer. While this could be seen as a convenience i've not seen anyway to remove this icon (apart from an uninstall) which makes it quite obtrusive imo.

The camera looks very nice when people came into my room most commented on how good the webcamera looked :) also for those times when you need some privacy it has privacy shade that you can slip onto it. The camera fixes into a small stand that allows lots of swivel and tilt to the camera and has small rubber pads underneath unfortunatly due to the cable coming out the back it is quite light and easily knocked over but once set in a firm postion should be ok.

Overall am happy with the logitech 4000 pro it has lots of features and great picture quality at a good price.

A good camera for the money.

Strengths: Price, versatility, value, performance. A microphone with good sound quality.

Weakness: Software installation, didn't come with all accessories. Obtrusive software.

This webcam offers a better picture then most other webcams. It has a lot of features, bells and whistles, which is good if you're a control freak, so you can control everything with this camera. Logitech has still not improved their software installation, I am a computer expert, and it still amazes me that anyone can install this without an exclamation point in their device manager. I would suggest that they download the latest driver off the Logitech website and just use the smallest amount of features. The software creates a folder in My Computer that won't go away, thus the "obtrusive software" comment. I bought this camera re-furbed, and it looked brand new, however, it did not come with the laptop bracket that a new one would come with. Overall, a great camera, and a great value, just needs better software, and a patient person to set it up.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: Crisp Image Quality, Awesome Microphone Quality, Cool Slick Ball and Stand...

Weakness: Face-Tracking is goofy, if not spotty... Shutter Cap easily lost if you move around alot...

Well, this was my FIRST webcam and I must say that I am VERY PLEASED and IMPRESSED with the quality of the image and ironically the sound. I did not purchase this webcam thinking about a microphone until I plugged it in and Windows began using the Webcam mic instead of sound card. People can hear me clearly as well as see me clearly online, and I have no complaints about the image quality, especially with Yahoo Supercam.
Alot of people complain about the base and I agree it DOES LOOK FLIMSY and you actually have to hold the base while swiveling the ball around but not a big deal. I have already lost the shutter cover since I move the ball around from computer to computer and it is attached peripherally so easily comes off. This is also not a big deal since the webcam is meant to "see" when ON but I guess some people like to "cover" it to be sure no one is PEEKING IN or for dust.
The Face Tracking program is cute but if you move around it will have problems zooming out, then in, then left, then right, etc, etc. Because then sometimes it tracks you but in ZOOMED mode, etc, etc which gets annoying after a while so I never use that feature. Otherwise, awesome webcam in terms of quality and price, since Logitech is also known for their GREAT DRIVER SUPPORT.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: Easy to use, setup was fast, and seems to have taken even though I set it up backwards (see comments).

Weakness: Face tracking seems really glitchy.

I haven't had it very long, but it works great! My only problem with it was that I bought it refurbished, and it didn't come with an instruction manual. I was supposed to put the CD-ROM in first, then reboot after install, and then plug in the webcam. It doesn't seem to have hurt it, though.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: Great camera. Image is very clear. Easy to install. Great features. Works well in low light.

Weakness: None so far.

I had a Logitech Quickcam Pro which I bought in 1999. This is far superior. I had read that the hardware on this camera was flimsy and that the ring used to focus the image was hard to turn: I have found neither claim to be true. This camera has load of features to enable you to work in various kinds of light. I've had it around 2 weeks. Have used it every day. I'm totally satisfied.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: Very good images quality even in dim light

Weakness: none. It is a very good webcam with this price.

I bought the Quickcam Express first. It is really bad quality. I don't know how someone wrote a review with 4 stars for the Qickcam Express. I then changed it for the 4000 pro. It works very well for me.

Not worth the price

Strengths: Quality is ok. The zooming in feature is kind of nice but it can come to close to the face distorting the whole image.

Weakness: For the amount I paid, I had hoped that it would have better quality video. The quality for the price is not a good ratio. I have an Axis network camera. It was much more expensive but the picture qua

I paid about 60 bucks for this. I had hoped the quality would be a lot better. However, it was not as good as I expected. There is a new model of the camera. The quickcam 5000. I saw it selling for $40 a month after buying this. Try the new model. This is not worth the price.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: ease of use; straightforward installation; acceptable performance, considering the price of the unit

Weakness: undiscovered - give us a few more months

I bought two of the 4000s for my nieces. They tell me that they've been having a ball with them ever since. I have received still photos. Quality was acceptable for images intended for quick web delivery. Also, they have been making videos and sending them to their dad who is currently stationed in Kuwait. He seems to be quite satisfied with what he has received.

Regarding Mac OS X support from Logitech... the manufacturer has a 4000 specifications pdf. file that indicates that OS X is supported. Elsewhere on Logitech's site it says that the 4000 is supported in 8.x and 9.x but not X. Frustrated, I contacted their tech support. The e-mail that I received today [11/23/03] said, in part:

"The Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 is supported on Mac OS® X 10.1.5 to 10.2.6. and the latest version of driver software QuickCam Software for Macintosh OS X Version: 1.0.3 (Driver Only)

"Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 is also supported on Macintosh OS 9.04 through 9.21 Only (OS 9.1/9.2.1 recommended) and the driver software is QuickCam Software for Mac OS 9.x Version: v5.0.1"

Nice Camera, works well with Skype

Strengths: Easy to install, decent microphone, pretty good picture quality

Weakness: Software seems a bit flakey, stand feels like it could break easily

I got this camera to do video conferencing with Skype. I got set up and was making video calls within 20 minutes of opening the camera box. Seems to work well with Windows XP and Skype so far. The picture quality is pretty good even with a strong back light, though I don't have too much to compare with since this is my first camera. The face tracker is a neat feature, but not a selling point. I like the built in microphone. It works well as a speaker phone for Skype.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: Swift delivery, quality as promised

Weakness: Website looks funky

I just ordered 2 Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000. Order Friday night and got them Tuesday. The seller offers the webcam in white box. They work great. Although riskier, OEM products are as good as those in pretty colorful packages.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Webcam

Strengths: Quick setup, clear image, excellent light sensitivity, good mic sensitivity.

Weakness: Camera control options dimmed out some macs tested: digital zoom, special features unavailable. No MacOS X support.

A solid webcam overall, even with the lack of access to its special features under some OS 9.x configurations. The present lack of MacOS X drivers may reduce its long term value for those engaged in OS X migration or expecting to upgrade to the present line of non-OS 9 booting G4s. A driver update from Logitech would likely eliminate these matters and earn this webcam a fifth star.

Quickcam Pro 4000

Strengths: easy to use

Weakness: none yet

product easy to use after an easy install. It is used in conjuctin with a home weather station and while it's not intended for outdoor use, properly protecting the camera from the elements allows it to be used outside. I would recommend this prodct to others.

LOGITECH QUICKCAM PRO 4000

Strengths: Great picture, easy to set up, easy to use and I love the "Face Track" capibility!!

Weakness: The base.

I see that others have had problems with the PRO 4000. I have had it now for two weeks and have not encountered any problems.

I am using XP home and also have SP2.

Purchased from SHENTECH. Set it up and had it working in 5 minutes!!

This is my second Logitech webcam. The first one, a webcam messanger, has been great for the past four years, but when I saw the clearer pictures that others were getting with the PRO 4000, my girl friend has one, I knew it was finally time to upgrade. The difference is phenomenal!!

My girl friend says that I look more handsome!!! :) You gotta love that!!

Great product!!

Hello,

I have just purchased this cam (the generic one). Once I put in the cd there is a box that appears that says E dirver (not driver). There is nothing that tells me how to proceed. I thought that once I popped in the cd,I would be prompted on how to proceed. The instructions don't go into depth on how to install. Are you able to pass along your expertise on how to install? I have Dell dimension desktop E310.

I would greatly appreciate any help or advice on the installation process.

Thank you,

e:setup.exe

in run and get it to work? Just a suggestion. (I keep trying to send this to you as e:[backslash]setup.exe, but it won't run the backslash.)
