Product review for Logitech QuickCam for Notebook Pro

Strengths: Clear picture when focused

Weakness: shaky mount very unstable, defective and outdated software support

I bought two copies of the product. It turns out that the two contain differet versions of the support software and neither is completely working. Both require logging into Logitech support website to get updates, but the updates do not support the product since it's a back-level edition. The outdated information was not available in the online advertisement which misled me to buy this product. In particular, the included Logitech ImageStudio is an obsolete product that would not install on a XP system. The included user manual reflects an old product and does match with the software in the package. I would definitely return or exchange the product if I could.

Funny thing aboyut this screen is that I get a new window with your home page when I click on the "Check Spelling" or "Next" button below. The need for logging into this system is not obvious at all. More quality issue here!!

Strengths: image quality, design and carrying case

Weakness: price, price and price!!!

I used to chat with my friend in Asia using MSN messenger. Since I want to show myself too, I decided to buy a camera. I researched the whole day and found that Logitech Notebooks pro is the most satisfactory product since it supports over 1 mega pixels and looks really good. (Frankly, Orbit is the best but it costs a lot!) When I received this camera, it seemed a little bit larger than I thought but still looks good enough. It is attached well at the top of the LCD (My laptop is IBM T41.) and the adjustment is very easy. (You may think it’s unstable, but it’s really ‘fixed’.) Most of all, the image quality is more than I expected. It is crystal clear and bright enough even if I turned off all lights. My friend noticed that there is a huge difference between her camera (the pre-installed camera in Sony TR2A) and this one. The face tracking function is really funny. Sometimes, no, more than sometimes it tracks other part of the body rather than face, like hands, etc. The carrying case is made of cheap plastic but the surface is pretty shining, like piano black, looking a little bit ‘luxurious’. If you have enough money for the camera, this one is MUST SEE. (You know, the money, is always the matter.)

Strengths: Great optics, sharp & clear image, low light capability is incredible, the best camera out there for a laptop or any PC for that matter. A+

Weakness: If you have to nitpick, USB cord connection could be a little longer.

I have family living in a different continent that I speak with *everyday* and this cameras image quality and low light function are just incredible. I can turn off my lights and with only the monitor as my main light source my family can see me crystal clear. The microphone works well, software was easy to install, the camera clips on to the top of your laptop and never gets in the way. I have a wireless network and the camera works with no hiccups wirelessly...it's awesome. It has a nice aluminum finish and folds up really nicely for travel. Worth every penny.

Strengths: video quality, mic included, compact!!, convenient carrying case, easy to install and use

Weakness: mount could be a problem, usb cable usually too short for use with desktop

This product is designed specifically for notebooks and for traveling. For that reason, some other features have to be sacrificed. The camera cannot be turned in any way when mounted, nor can it be placed flat on the desk. It can be used with a desktop, but the USB cable is too short so you'll need to buy an extension. If these are things you are willing to sacrifice for the size of the webcam, then this is the webcam for you. If these things are going to bother you, then don't buy the camera..go for the logitech quickcam 4000.
The mount doesn't feel as secure as you probably want it to, but it holds the camera without a problem. I don't think it would work too well if you moved your laptop around a lot though.
Basically, the camera is made to be a compact, but quality webcam and that's exactly what the logitech notebook pro is. The quality is excellent and the webcam comes with a carrying case. I installed very quickly and easily (I use windows XP)..no problems at all.
I highly recommend this camera for roadwarriors.

Strengths: Very crisp, clear image; thumbnail ring assists in achieving a precise focus.

Weakness: Easily adapted for dual purpose with both laptop and desktop, with an extension cord. (Cable just a wee bit too short, needs about 6" for use with a desktop!)

I LOVE this Logitech webcam! It's the third model I've tried from Logitech and it delivers what I've been looking for: a crisp clear image which is easy to focus. The face-tracking feature works extremely well and I definitely think it's worth every penny of the purchase price. The other two models I tried were the basic $49.95 Messenger webcam and the Pro4000. Neither were adequate for crystal-clear images or providing seamless streaming video. The Quick-Cam For Notebooks Pro, however, has met my every expectation.

Strengths: compact, ease of installation, nice zoom & image capture capabilities

Weakness: average picture quality

Bought this on for my laptop at home, like the cmpact size but not he style, of the webcam. could be more stylish. The clip handler is kind of loose, prefer the snap on type.
Resolution is not quite as good as I expect for this price.

Strengths: the quality of video was nice, and it works well iat night. it was much better than the cheap guy bought in other place.

Weakness: the usb line was short, i have to buy the another cable to use. and it was a little difficult to fix.

I recomment logitech to improve the short line and the difficult fixness. however , this webcam was very nice, and it was worth of the price absolutely. The microphone was a little not clear. But i did not care much about this, you can buy the microphone individually. Furthermore, this guy looks very nice.

Strengths: Great quality, same pic quality as the quickcam pro 4000 (only lower resolution)

Weakness: PRICE is expensive

This is one great web cam. If you are satified with Quickcam pro 4000, you'll be happy with this one. Resolution is 640 x480 insteadm of 1280 in quick cam pro 4000. But for Webcam, or video conference, you don't have that much bandwidth high res video anyway.

This is excellent for those who want great quality website and portability. I use it for my desktop and notebook.

The clip works fine for me.

It's debatable whether it's worth the price though.

Strengths: Great picture quality, comes with compact case, compatible w/ all major IM programs.

Weakness: Mount isn't very sturdy.

I've tried several different webcams and found this model to be one of the best out there available for notebooks. I tend to travel alot and need something compact to carry along with my notebook and found this to be the perfect solution. Compatible w/ all major IM programs I'm able to keep in touch with anyone everywhere I go. Mount isn't very sturdy however but as long as the unit isn't moved you'll be alright. Although price is on the higher end of the scale you won't be disappointed with the quality of the video that is produced with this webcam. Highly recommended!!!

Strengths: Great image quality, nice carrying case, built in microphone

Weakness: does not mount well on laptop screen

This is my first webcam and I am impressed with the sharp image. The software was easy to install although it took a little bit of time. I have been using it to chat with my family in Asia and it works just great. The webcam does not mount sturdy on laptop screen and I have to adjust it so often. I found that the face-tracing feature were annoyed sometimes but overall this is a great product.

Strengths: very clear picture

Weakness: doesn't attach that well to the computer

After reading the positive reviews, I decided to buy this. However, it was not as good as expected. For one, it doesn't attach that well to the notebook so it is difficult to point in the direction you want. Also, the mic on mine doesn't work well. When testing, it shows it is getting a signal but when I used it with MSN messenger, it failed to work. Still haven't figured out how to solve it yet. On the positive side, it gives clear pictures.

Strengths: the image quality, easy install, compact

Weakness: loose mount

It is very easy to install this webcam. After getting it work, I was immediately impressed by its image quality which is much better than the logitech quickcam messager once I used. The image is clear even in poor lighting conditions. However, the web cam can not be mounted tightly on my laptop screen which can be a pity. But overall this is a nice web cam and I really like it.

Strengths: Digital zoom, Ajustable focus.

Weakness: PRICE!, sub cord, instalation CD, compability, size

This is my second bad experience with logitech webcams. The first one I bought was the Logitec Orbit($119).It looked great but the inner motor was not well designed. It would not move to different directions so the webcam didnot move like advertised. Back to this webcam; When I got it it look great but the size was bigger than what I expected it to be. When I tried to install it, it would not work!??, I have windows XP plus the service pack second edition for windows XP. I tried to install it several times but never worked. So I had to use the installation cd of the orbit webcam. Once installed, the software would not record video? I called customer service and they told me I had to download an upgraded version of the software. I downloaded it and when I installed and error message came saying "missing file, installation aborted" After that the software would not work at all!!?
I never had problems with hardware installation on my computer, but since I got these "EXPENSIVE" webcams, everything is going bad. I believe the logitech company has to work on the software of these webcams to give troubleshooting tips!

Strengths: Good picture quality, very clear and works well in low light.

Weakness: The clip to hold the laptop could have been better.

I have used the camera for video conferencing with my family and it works fine. The built in microphone is also a very nice feature. Make sure you make your ligitec mic as your default mic, otherwise your voice will echo on the other end. I think I like the camera overall. It's small, portable and easy to use. I don't use the face tracking feature but it's not perfect. The clip could have been better but it is designed to just clip it on the edge to let it sit. My friend has a creative labs webcam and you can tighten it up and it will stay there. This one also works fine and does not fall off like unless you are jumping around or running while using your laptop.
