Maxtor internal hard drive

Strengths: Name recognition, price, reliability and performance.

Weakness: n/a

I have owned 2 computers, and have upgraded both of them with Maxtor internal hard drive. I have had nothing but success when installing and using these find products. Maxtor has become a well known firm with high quality standards.

cheap drive but not for your gaming needs

Strengths: cheap

Weakness: slow

For only $29.19 how can you go wrong. It is a sizable 120 gb enough for your backups or for that second comp. It is also great for dvr purposes since it is only 5400 rpm

Maxtor DiamondMax 16 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Good size hard drive for my ReplayTV upgrade

Weakness: None

This was a very cost effective upgrade for my ReplayTV unit. I went from the original 40GB (40 hour) unit to a 120GB (120 hour) for just over $70.

Maxtor DiamondMax 16 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Inexpensive, moderately large capacity harddrive

Weakness: 2MB Buffer

For what it is, this is one of the best deals I have seen on the market. I picked it up at Fry's for $70 with a $20 rebate making it $50.

This is a harddrive upgrade for the average system. I used it to upgrade an iMac G3 that came with a stock 40GB 4200rpm drive. The Maxtor drive tripled the capacity at 120GB and sped up most all of the system's functions at 5400rpm. I was able to partition the harddrive and have 60MB for OS 9 and 60MB for OS X.

The only mentionable weakness is the 2MB buffer. The average harddrive has an 8MB buffer to increase the harddrive's ability to respond faster. You may not notice any loss of responsiveness with the 2MB buffer unless you use programs that need to hit the harddrive alot. The iMac that this drive is in will be run mostly in OS 9 and will be used more for basic page layout so it probably won't be an issue.

Bottom line: If you have an older computer that is running well but you just need more harddrive space and don't mind the 2MB buffer, this is a steal for $50.

Maxtor 120G HD

Strengths: Good price. That 120g will run fine at 5400 rpm. What's more important is that it'll run cooler; meaning ur drive'll last longer than a year or two. DiamondMax 4R120L0 120GB Hard Drive (EIDE ATA-133, 5400 RPM, 2MB)

Maxtor DiamondMax 16 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: It works as advertised

Weakness: it is a little loud.

I bought this hard drive around 1 year ago, and it's still working.

But it's a little loud, you can download an utility in Maxtor that can reduce the noise, but you will reduce the drive's performance by doing that.

Maxtor DiamondMax 16 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

The Hard Drive is a steal for $50. I have purchased many hard drives before but none that was this cheap. I think that everyone should pick up one of these babies and drop it in. It is an inexpensive way to upgrade your p.c.
