Very Slow - Pass On This One

Strengths: Cute little orange light emitting diode

Weakness: Slow and unreliable and expensive for its speed

I already own a Corsair 8GB Flash Voyager GT and a Patriot 16 GB Xporter. I wanted another fast 16 GB USB and ordered this one.

Problem number 1, I read the "Turbo" specs and assumed that was what I was buying.

The first one arrived and lasted less than 2 minutes before Windows noted it was defective and the orange LED stayed on very bright (and it heated up).

The second one arrived and performed slowly. In benchmarks I ran it took the Rally2 18 minutes and 8 seconds, the Patriot Xporter took 4 minutes and 1 second and the Corsair took 2 minutes and 54 seconds.

This device is very slow. This sort of speed might be acceptable on a 2 GB USB, but, is not acceptable on a larger USB.

In the end, it was my problem. I simply was unaware that OCZ made a slow version of the Rally2.

Again, it is slow and unreliable. For the same money you can buy something that is four times faster.

Never buy OCZ product

Strengths: Horrible

Weakness: You name it

Two problems:
- They will find all kind of excuses not to honor rebate for their products
- Their products are very slow and not stable at all.

Inexpensive, sleek, and sturdy high-capacity...

Strengths: Cheap. Aluminum case. Sturdy. Sleek.

Weakness: Cap is easily misplaced or lost. Write speed not as fast as advertised. Not as fast as other flash drives (which, granted, are more expensive)

The OCZ Rally2 16GB flash drive is pretty cheap--$37 after rebate in August 2008. It is sleeker and smaller than most of the competitors' flash drives, which is useful if you intend to plug more than one USB device in adjacent USB ports. The case is aluminum, making it feel pretty sturdy. It is optimized for large file transfers. I ran some benchmarks on SiSoft Sandra Lite. For 256MB files, read was 30MB/sec and write was 8.5MB/sec. For 256KB files, read was 27MB/sec and write was 4.6MB/sec. The orange light is rather bright. It does not bother me, but might bother some people. One annoying design feature--flaw

this drive has problems

Strengths: size

Weakness: buggy drive recognition

I had a lot of problems w this drive continually disappearing as a drive in My Computer, and not being recognized or accessible as a device at all. It was very frustrating to work with and the fix provided by OCZ for this widely reported bug didnt fix the problem at all. I have an OCZ psu which is great, but the problems with this drive damaged their rep in my eyes. I'm staying well away from OCZ flash and storage devices because of it, and will look for the more established storage brands instead.
