Good Value Processor, but there are better

Strengths: Good overall performance, easy-to-install, works well with Intel DG33TL, runs cool

Weakness: needs more cache

Good performance, but there are faster processors around for little more money. Still, it installed easily and performs well overall. Got a 5.2 on Windows Experience Index for processor. Installed it into an Intel DG33TL motherboard without a problem. Runs very cool and reliably.

Best budget CPU!

Strengths: Fast, 9.5 multi, best bang for your money, can be easily overclocked from 2.53 to 3.6 ghz, 45nm...

Weakness: none that I have found. It has a lower cache, but let's be real, it doesn't make that much difference specially if you overclock it.

I was debating between e4500 and e4600 but then this baby came out and it was an easy choice. I got it for a great price. This thing is very cheap for what it does. If you are thinking about building a budget PC, forget the e2*** series and stick with this one. The new quad cores are not worth it at all, specially with the very low multi they have, stick with this dual core (or the e8400 if you feel to go all the way) and you will be set for a few years

Great budget processor

Strengths: Inexpensive but runs cool and fast

Weakness: Would've been nice if it had more cache

I needed to put together a new HTPC for my media room within a small budget, and had decided on this processor or a E2180 for half the price. I ended up going with the E7200 since it was 45nm (newer technology) and was faster out of the box. I have it installed on a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L motherboard and works great. I watch alot of 1080p HD material and it has no problems decoding it, even at stock speeds.

WOW, not sure how you can give this processor 4 out of 5????
I understand its your review & your opinion etcetera.

But you list low cache....as your sole Con. First off did you think you were buying something other than a 3MB L2 Cache?
In comparison to the other processor you suggested E2180; the E7200 has 3 X 's the L2 Cache of the E2180's 1MB L2 Cache. _____________

As a further point of reference....The Core 2 Duo's E6320, E6420, E65500, E6600, E6700, E6750, E6800, E6850 ETC...only have 1 more MB of L2 Cache (4MB total) than does the E7200.
Yes, the E8000's Penryns have 6MB L2 Cache but they also cost ~$40-> more.

What is it that you are doing that you are hindered by 3MB of L2 Cache?+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The E7200 starts out at a relatively modest clock of 9.5 X 266.66 FSB = ~2.53Mhz. While that may seem close to the E2180 at 10 X 200Mhz = ~2.00Ghz = E2180 it has a number of benefits that make t far superior. _______________________
1-45nm die size & better transistor gate technology. Means it runs better on less power. It over clocks a substantial way further...capable of the range of 4Ghz without running into the danger level of voltage which is a way lower than the older Conroe cores.... but the work its doing at a similar clock to a conroe is on the order or 10% faster. More if the program utilizes SSE4 & they code it well. ++++++++++++++++++

This is the poor mans Diamond Penryn. Right now for $132.00 which is ~$60 less than the E8400 can be clocked to E8400's level by simply matching closely its FSB of 333Mhz. With a tiny overclock you get most of the features of the E8400 at only 2/3 the cost. __________________________________

One final thing, the impact on most applications of the missing one or 3MBs diminishes once you get above 2MB L2 Cache. But the missing cache can be effectively negated by a modest overclock. These are such a deal. In the hands of an overclocker. WOW!

Excellent bargain C2D processor

Strengths: Amazingly overclockable, 45nm design emits less heat

Weakness: none

The Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 provides you excellent bang for the buck. After receiving it, I easily took it up to 4GHz stable with just a few voltage bumps. The temperature runs must lower than the former E4xxx series processors.

bang for buck

Strengths: 45nm architecture (wolfdale), 2.53 ghz dual core processor, sufficient stock intel HSF

Weakness: compared to the E8400: less L2 cache (3 vs 6 MB), slower FSB (1066 vs 1333 mhz); Core 2 Duo line/platform will be end-of-life when the new Core i7 is readily available.

I was looking for a cheap upgrade (from an AMD X2 4200+) and the E7200 is a capable and affordable chip. In games, my 8800GT was limited by my previous AMD processor. This new intel processor allows me to fully realize the capabilities of the 8800GT. I paired this with a Gigabyte motherboard and Corsair DDR2 ram and utilized components from my previous system. It's a good upgrade for ~$250 total as I couldn't wait any longer for the Nehalem/Core i7 architecture to hit the market and it would mostly likely be quite expensive at introduction. The E7200 is a good choice for price conscious consumers, however the E8400 offers better performance at the cost of an extra $50. I have not and do not plan to overclock the E7200, but overclocking could minimize some of its shortcomings though from what I've read, results from overclocking E7200 processors can vary.

Great semi-budget processor

Strengths: Good bang for the buck; plenty fast

Weakness: Fan is a bit small

I was building a HTPC, so wanted a CPU that wouldn't cost alot, yet would have the capability to decode Hi-Def video. I am using on-board HDMI video output from my motherboard, so it doesn't do any hardware acceleration. The CPU needs to do that. I have not had any problem playing back Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs via Cyberlink. I have not had the need to overclock, so have not had to stress the tiny CPU fan. Intel has made them smaller than before, so not sure whether they could handle any hefty overclocking.

Great processor at a great price

Strengths: 45nano, lastest intel architecture, runs very cool

Weakness: not 1333mhz

I used this processor for a customers build and we were both very pleased. I believe it is faster than my E6600 but at a lower price. I would highly recommend this processor to anyone building a budget system but still looking for speed and good overclocking!!

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

The Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 is one of Intels next generation of dual core processor that is more energy efficient yet powerful. The E7200 codenamed "Wolfdale" is similar to the processors in its series, but it features only 3 MB of L2 cache, a core clock speed of 2.53 GHz, and a front side bus of 1066 MHz. Likewise with the E8190 processor, it also does not feature Intel Virtualization Technology,...
