Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: very quiet, i got two of these and i have used ten gigs so far.. it's awesome. no worries about using up too much space

Weakness: well, I got two defective harddrives and however, got them replaced in a week

the guy over at my tech support said that it's better not to marry the harddrives
so I just separated them for backup and i have two 160 now
so happy i bought maxtor

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Inexpensive, 3 year warranty

Weakness: Maxtor turnaround (overall) for RMA a tad slower than other hard drive manufacturers.

First SATA drive for me. Actually had slight problem with install as the drive does not auto detect like IDE ATA drives do. I have a Asus A7N8X-E and you have to transfer the SATA drivers from ASUS CD to a floppy disk and when you start windows XP install, push F6 to load SATA drivers.

After that, the drive was detected and formatted OK.

The drive is quiet. Actual format is around 156 gigs.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Extreemly fast, quiet, Maxtor quality

Weakness: None Found

This hard drive is a screamer, I am constantly amazed at how fast my computer is running! Very high quality drive that I reccommend without hesitation. I have used Maxtor Hard Drives on many computers and never had any unusual problems. Their prices are very competitive as well.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: It is fast, quiet and the amount of space is huge.

Weakness: While not a drive problem, it took awhile to figure out how to load Win XP on a SATA drive. After I figured it out, all went smooth.

I read reviews that said that this was a noisy drive, but I do not hear it at all. I do not even have a tenth of the drive full. I have always liked Maxtor drives, and I an impressed with this one. I would buy it again.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Extremely fast and quiet.

Weakness: None so far.

This is a very high quality drive for the price espically being a serial ATA. The only problem that I encountered was that at first my motherboard would only recognize 131 GB, so therefore I had to go to the Maxtor web site and download MaxBlast 3 so then it would recognize all 160 GB. The access time is amazing and how quiet it is was stunning also. Excellent choice!!!!!

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Very fast, quiet, and simple set up.

Weakness: None that I can tell

fast and unusually quiet for a 7200 rpm. Although mine came with no manual but, it was available on their website support. The price is ok. I would probibly buy one again.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Very quiet, very fast and easy setup.

Weakness: None

I bought two of these hard drives and set up as RAID-0 and I got 305GB in total size after formating. That is way more than what Western Digital would give. I bought a Western Digital 160GB ATA 133 hard drive about a month ago and it gave me only 143GB after formating. If anybody would like to do video editing then this is the Hard Drive to get.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Fast access. Quiet. Clear manual. Easy install. Reasonable price.

Weakness: so far so good.

It's faster than the previous one I had, and surprisingly quiet (for a 7200 rpm). The manual is also clearly written and also available on their website support. I would say the price is reasonable.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Fast and quiet

Weakness: None found, so far

I am using this drive for video editing and storage of large MPEG files. I have been using the drive for about three and a half months now, and it is still working flawlessly. I have had less luck with other brands: My two previous video editing drives were Western-Digital, and they both died. But no problems with Maxtor, yet, at least.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Big and Fast

Weakness: Loud and not reliable

Worst hard drive ever. Have to reformat every 2 months. Possible bad sector. Replaced with Western Digital and much better and quieter hard drive. I would not recommend Maxtor to anyone

Maxtor makes wonderful hard drives; apparently you got one that wasn't as nice. This one in particular is certainly not noisy and is reliable to all others that have used it. Formatting every 2 months seems like overkill. You probably got a bad one...

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: The Maxtor 160GB 7200 Hard drive runs like a dream, Quiet and fast.

Weakness: I found no weaknesses as of yet

At this time I have 4 Maxtor hard drives a 20GB a 60GB an 80GB and now the 160GB. The unit installed and ran with no problems. I have never had any problems with any of the Maxtors and recommend them to all my friends because they are reasonably priced and have been reliable

I am doing the same, running 2 Drives, but mine are set up in Raid-0 Configuration. About the fan, Yes I'd advise adding Fans and/or heatsinks with fans. The only difference is, in my opinion, on ALL of today's large capacity, high speed drives I'd advise adding heatsinks w/ fans as well. Not just on this particular drive.

It's VERY cheap insurance for your drive and Data.

Good Luck, as everyone else has said, a lot of fast drive here escpecially for the price.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Price & speed

Weakness: none so far

I've had very good luck with Maxtor's drives for the past few years. There was a time when you couldn't have given me one, but not any more. I buy quite a few drives, and i've had them all; Maxitor top of the line drives are good quality, top of the line technology at reasonable prices.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive...

Strengths: Fast and not very expensive

Weakness: None

Great drive. Mine did have kind of a high pitch sound but only at first. I opened it up gave everything a good coat of automotive grease and it is very quiet now.

pretty decent

Strengths: Very fast data transfer.

Weakness: Noisier than most newer hard drives, plus defective in spots.

I originally bought it for the price, and because I had a pretty good opinion of Maxtor.
This is no doubt one of the fastest drives I've ever owned. I mean really fast. But I was surprised ... I have a little WD 40GB drive (older, IDE), and it was MUCH quieter than this one. The Western Digital I can't hear at all unless the room is quiet and my ear is touching the drive. But this one I can hear clearly with my pc case shut and I'm 4 feet away from it. And by hearing it I mean I can hear the heads seeking around.

A while back, I had been having some problems with files getting corrupted. Just recently I've used a program called SpinRite, and sure enough, it found SEVERAL bad sectors toward the beginning of the drive that had grown defects. And I haven't had this drive much more than a year.
Anyway, SpinRite wasn't even able to fully recover the data from the bad sectors, but at least those areas have been decomissioned.
