Great Mouse

Strengths: Fast, smooth, responsive, adjustable dpi, ergonomic, looks cool.

Weakness: Logitech just announced new G5 Laser Mouse(corded laser mouse for gaming)

I originally wanted a laser mouse, but the cordless MX1000 is not great for gaming. When the MX518 finally came out, I eagerly got one even though it still used optics. It's been great for general computer usage and fps gaming(although I still suck). I would probably wait on picking up this mouse, because when the G5 comes out the price on the MX518 should drop.

Still working great

Strengths: Super precise, fit and feel are great, DPI change on the fly, looks dang cool.

Weakness: Kinda pricey, but once you use it it you realize it was worth it.

I have had this mouse for over a year, and it still works fantastic. Every time I have to use someone elses mouse I hate it. This mouse is that good. From tracking to changing the resolution on the fly everything just fits right. I have big hands so all the buttons are in just the right place. Try one, you will like it you will. Matched with a Corepad eyepad and a Nostromo N-52 I couldn't be a happier gamer.

This mouse rocks!!!

Strengths: Excellent sensitivity. Easy to program buttons. Works on both USB and PS/2 ports.

Weakness: None so far.

This mouse is sweet. It glides so effortlessly across my mouse pad. Fits in my hand well. It looks cool too.

If you are a hardcore FPS gamer, this is the mouse to get. I was doing some serious fraggin' in Battlefield 2 with this mouse. It is very precise, plus you can instantly change the sensitivity on the fly.

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: Cool features. Nice new design. New options to change sensitivity. 1600 dpi. Great drivers with great software.

Weakness: None.

Great mouse. You can notice the difference if you're a gamer and need high DPI. The sensitivity adjustment features are easy to use with the touch of a button. Corded mouse so you don't have to worry about it lagging.

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: 1600 dpi, fast response, moves smoothly, good design

Weakness: built for right hand only

This mouse is essentially a beefed up MX510. Its main features are its 1600 dpi and new software. You can switch resolutions on the fly with buttons above and below the wheel, with or without the software. The defaults (400, 800, 1600) were good enough for me, but if you like to specify your own settings, it's simple enough with the program. All buttons are customizable.

The Best Gaming & General Use Mouse Out There!

Strengths: By far the best Ergonomics Great button placement Rubber sides give you a firm grip on the mouse Thumb indentation is awesome Sensitivity adjustments give you precision control 1600dpi is very accurate

Weakness: + senstivity button is hard to reach

I just bought this mouse to replace my 2-month old MX610 Wireless Laser mouse. Even thought the MX518 is older, it is much more precise and much more enjoyable to use.

Wireless mice have a slight delay, and I did not notice any improvement with the laser technology. Also ergonomics, build quality, materials, and overall feel is not as good as the MX518.

This is my 3rd mouse within 3 months, and by far the best mouse I have ever owned. BY THIS ONE NOW!

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: Very good response in terms of G force movements - the mouse is extremely like the mx510 which rocks since thats currently my favorite mouse of all time above the boomslang and intelliexplorer

Weakness: I feel like i just spent $40 for a mouse lol not a good feeling - value is there, but the price...ouch!

Great mouse, great response, still learning the sensitivity on the fly thing but ive 'lucked' out many times with it in counterstrike 1.6 so alls good so far! good buy, but just remember, this is a COMPUTER MOUSE YOU'RE BUYING...no matter how many times i buy $40-$50 mice, the shock is still there~

tianlian, you're a dork. Don't you know what value is? You say it is there. Value means that even though it's expensive, you think it's worth the price because of the high quality. You shouldn't have dinged your rating because of price, if you thought it was to much, you shouldn't have bought it. In the end you get what you pay for.

In no way was i dissing the mouse in the review - all I was referring to was the price. Please consider when I bought the mouse - it was when it first came out - price was high because the item is brand new.

The value of the item is performance vs cost, I felt the performance is there but for when I bought it, the cost was high and as a result it was worth it but I should have waited. Therefore, value is time dependent. Do I care about the price now? No...it's money long gone, however, at the time that I reviewed the mouse, it was on my mind and the review reflected that.

Apparently you've never been on the fence about a purchase - congrats!

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: adjustable sensitivity, very comfortable, awesome paintjob

Weakness: can't think of any

If you are a gamer this is the mouse to buy. With it you can go from a heated firefight to sniping some poor sucka with just a push of a button with no detriment to either. While re-playing Call of Duty I was able to put cross-hairs dead on guy's forehead, with Microsoft's "creation" I couldn't pull it off. Although the highest resolution, 1600 dpi, seems like a bit too much but I guess after a few Sturbucks and Red Bulls it'll feel just right. Overall this is an exceptional piece of engineering marvel from Logitech.

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: Amazingly smooth mouse, good feel, 1600 DPI, and ultra light

Weakness: doesn't last long... about 5-6 months. I've had 3 in the last year and a half or so.

This mouse is deffinatly worth buying, it is sensative and is a very percise mouse for games like counter-strike or DOD. It has great handle as well. But it is expensive and doesn't last very long so if you have the money for it, it's well worth it.

Love this mouse!!!

Strengths: Smooth as ice even on a cheap mouse pad. All buttons can be programmed to improve gaming.

Weakness: None. Not a weakness but it took me a while to get use to having so many more buttons to utilize with games like COD4 and Crysis.

I love the design of the mouse. Its unique but doesn't scream game system. I play games but also do serious work on my computer. I was getting slaughtered on COD4 so I researched for a new mouse. This was my choice. I am kill'em without mercy now. Personally I have not had any problems with the software. It works great with vista and has made the mouse even more versatile.

Another home run from Logitech

Strengths: Very well made. Easy to use and setup. Works perfectly. Price to performance is outstanding.

Weakness: None found as of this time.

This is my second logitech gaming mouse and it is just a very nice mouse. It is comfortable to use and looks very nice. Functionality is A number one. You simply can not beat the price for what you get.

One of the best mice I've owned.

Strengths: The response time is excellent and the tracking is flawless.

Weakness: The software is a little upsetting. The MX510 and MX500 give you the ability to assign any function to any button. On the 518 it is limited, some buttons can't be set to custom commands.

On a whole, I love this mouse. It has all the features that I really need, and the software is very light on system resources. The fact that you can have different configurations based on your current app/game is a hefty plus too.

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: Good, fast response. 8 programable buttons, including 2 thumb buttons.

Weakness: Chord can get tangled up while gaming (depending on your desk setup)

If Logitech hadn't taken out the 2nd thumb button on their G5 and G7 mice I would've gotten one of those. As it is, I prefered getting a non-wireless mouse with 2 thumb buttons.

Wireless would definitely be a plus, but losing that 2nd thumb button was too high a price for me.

A fine mouse

Strengths: Good weight, looks nice, comfortable, "tweakable", very responsive

Weakness: Some of the buttons could be laid out better

Switched to this mouse after MANY years of using Logitech Trackmen & Marbles. Friends always thought I was nuts for gaming with those, but held my own well enough! Eventually wanted features my beloved Trackmen could provide, so switched to this mouse after quite a bit of research. All in all am quite happy with my decision.

The mouse fits well in my hand, but a couple of the buttons could be placed better. Mainly the "forward" and " + " buttons. Granted it's a mouse, so there's only so much space to work with, but still. The rubberized sides are nice as they add a bit of extra grip for those long gaming sessions.

I personally like the look of this mouse, with its liquid / pitted metal look. A lot of folks expect it to feel odd under their hands and are quite surprised to find that it's nice and smooth. All in all, a nice, sleek shape.

The ability to change the DPI settings on the fly is a real treat. Some might think this isn't a big deal, until they actually use it. But the ability to change modes when sniping, or doing graphics editing, will quickly become second nature to you.

Haven't used the software much, but IIRC it allows for more than the default three DPI settings, amongst other things. Wasn't having any problems with it, I just have a tendency to turn things off! ;-)

All in all, I think this mouse is more than worth the price of admission and feel it'll serve your needs well. After all, it turned this old "thumber" into a mouse driver; so that's high praise indeed! :-)

Good mouse, Bad program

Strengths: the mouse is well built; looks cool in it's own ways; comfortable to use; nice sensitivity for games like CS.

Weakness: right-handed only; "setpoint" program has some bugs, after a few months the top shoulder button stopped working. had to reinstall the program a couple times; looks ridiculous in it's own ways

Overall, this mouse is well built. the only setback is it's program that comes with it. If i went back in time i would have bought the Loigitech MX510 rather than the MX518. the two are about the same except the MX510 is cheaper and it doesnt have such a bold design.

Awesome mouse!

Strengths: Great performance in playing games.

Weakness: A little bit samll for my hand.

What can I say about this mouse? I just threw the MX 510 away, which I bought one month ago when I got this MX 518.The high DPI makes play FPS gamer easier. The feeling is pretty good when touch on it. I can adjust the sensitive on it. This is the best gamer mouse I have ever used!

Logitech MX518 Gaming Mouse

Strengths: Precise. Many buttons. Glides very easily.

Weakness: None

Mouse is very precise. Has a ton of buttons and is cool looking. With a qiality hard mouse pad the mouse glides very easily.

Not quite as handy as a cordless mouse. Cordless mice suck for gamming though.

Logitech MX518: For Gaming or Not

Strengths: Nicely placed buttons. Smooth wheel with tactile feel for switching objects. Sensitivity settings are easy to adjust. Nice size for gaming.

Weakness: Right-handed only. Ridge on right side of mouse slightly uncomfortable for finger rest. Price is a little steep.

Great gaming mouse. Adjustable sensitivity is wonderful. Mouse is not just for gaming. The buttons on the side work great for web surfing. Thoroughly enjoying for all my gaming experience. Logitech is making great products.

MX518 Mouse

Strengths: Comfortbale, DPI switching, Thumb forward and backwards button

Weakness: Sometimes it's a stretch of the figure to get a higher DPI rating.

This mouse lives up to the Logitech name and it delivers what it promises. I swithed to this mouse for gaming reasons and so far I'm pleased. I do think it needs a couple more buttons for key mapping in games.

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: Comfortable, precise, works as advertised.

Weakness: None.

Simply put, the mouse works as advertised. The ability to shift resolutions on the fly is flawless, and it occurs in hardware. You need not install SetPoint, but it actually seems like a solid driver; you can set individual settings for games, disable acceleration, etc, unlike past mouseware versions. The buttons are sensibly placed, and took only a little time to adjust to coming off of my IE 3.0. The smooth feet fly on my func1030, too.

Logitech MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse

Strengths: Very light and very fast tracking

Weakness: None

I always buy the logitech mouse when they have the new one coming out. I was dispointed with the heavy wirelss mouse. Until now, the MX518 is really designed for gaming. I love it very much because I play games all the time. This is the must-have mouse if you are a gamer.

Mouse round-up: Logitech MX518 Gaming Mouse tested

Most people assumed that it would be hard for Logitech to release a product that was actually better than the MX510 but they obviously didn’t sit duck. After spending hours using the MX518, it is clear that Logitech has succeeded in officially topping the MX510.

Are You A Gamer? Is This Your Next Mouse?

If you are serious about what you play with, you should definitely check out the MX518. I have found it to perform exceptionally in everything from Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - where I would change DPI settings when I switched from sniping to hosing - to my recent time playing Dungeon Siege II.
