ASUS P5Q-EM Motherboard
Strengths: Tons of SATA Ports; HTPC board
Weakness: Not the most stable with S3 standby; no HDCP support thru AVR
I was building a HTPC, and originally went with the Intel DG45ID motherboard. It's based on Intel G45 chipset, which is targeted for HiDef media and integrating audio/video via HDMI. I gave up on that board, as I had stability issues. I tried this board instead. Well....it looks like the chipset, and not the manufacturer! I had the same major issues: 1) it would come out of S3 standby on it's own to some funky state that would require a powered reset; while advertised as HDCP compliant, it would not work thru a A/V Receiver w/out hacking things via SlySoft's AnyDVD. Just google HDMI repeater bug! While I liked all of the features of this board, and it's slew of connectors, I just couldn't live with these major bugs. I ended up going with nVidia 9300 chipset, and it's been nearly flawless.
