A Tremendous External Drive Package
Strengths: Trouble free installation, beautiful drive enclosure, whisper quiet, and high performance.
Weaknesses:  None, except for the fact that it 1/2 taller than all my over external drives, and that it must be in the uprighted position due to its'...
Review:  I'm in the middle of converting a large VHS tape library of family videos to DVD format, and need extra storage for the edited videos. Always on the look out for good bargains in external hard drives with USB 2.0, I latched on to this 750GB Seagate FreeAgent Pro that BestBuy offered this past weekend. The FreeAgent Pro installed without a hitch, Windows XP recognized it quickly, and Seagates...

Great external hard drive.
Strengths: 5 year warranty
Weaknesses: Non-stackable design.
Review:  The only negative to this line of external hard drives by Seagate compared to the Maxtor One Touch III & Western Digital My Book drives is that unlike those, the FreeAgents don't feature a stackable design. So if you need multiple external hard drives on your desk, the FreeAgents might not be a good idea. However, compared to the Maxtor & Western Digital drives, these have a 5 year...

Sea Gate External Hard Drive
Strengths: Small foot print, backs up hard drive, quiet operation.
Weaknesses: Minimally responsive on/off button, initial back up takes over 4 hours, turns off with PC shut down but turns on spontaneously at a later time
Review: This gets the job done. It's weird how it turns on spontaneously after PC shut down and if I use the button to turn it off, I have to use the button to turn it on with boot up. Inconvenient, but not a deal breaker. Subsequent back ups after the initial back up don't take so long. So far it's been reliable.

Good Drive for the money - with SATA & USB 2.0
Strengths: Good price for storage size. Very small foot print
Weaknesses: Firmware need to be updated in order to transfer at a faster rate with SATA
Review: Although this drive runs at 7200 RPM's, it's very slow in copying files, running backups, or using diagnoctic tools for optimization of my primary drive. Although USB 2.0 is 480 mbs and Firewire is 400 mbs, Firewire is much quicker. I copied 7GB from my primary drive to this drive and it took just over 7 minutes.

Great External HDD
Strengths: Unique look and runs very cool. Transfer speed is very quick. 4.32 gigs within 3 min. 5 year warranty.
Weaknesses: Not stackable, otherwise none.
Review: I already have two other external hard drives that were assembled and they can't really compare to Seagate's FreeAgent. This drive is easy to set up. Just plug and play, no need to format or anything. Great transfer speed, runs very cool and makes no noise at all. I highly recommend it. Overall a great buy.

Great External Drive
Strengths: Esata is very fast. 5 year warranty. Slick Design
Weaknesses: Wish it's 500GB or more
Review: I really like the design of the FreeAgent Pro series. It much better looking than all the other external hard drives. The esata is at least 3 times as fast as USB 2.0 in my tests. The drive stays at room temperature even after a couple of hours of use.

I can figure out why it's on clearance
Strengths: Large amount of storage space for price paid
Weaknesses:  Awkward software interface. Light always on when plugged in. Can't tell if it's turned on or off when not plugged into computer. Odd power...
Review: I bought this on clearance for $112, dramatically less than any 750GB external hard drive. I can't say it isn't a good 'bang-for-your-buck' deal, but I would never pay full price for this model and frankly, I'd probably stay clear from seagate products in the future without reading great reviews.
