Samsung SC-DC164 Digital Camcorder - 2.7" LCD - CCD

Alot for the money

Strengths: Price. 33X optical zoom. Multicard format for stills and MPEG4 recording. Big wide-screen. Very light. Relatively easy to use. Multi-format mini DVD media accepted.

Weakness: Viewfinder produces very small image and does not tilt to the angle of your choice. Colors not as vibrant as some expensive models. Have not figured out how to take a photo during video-shutter lag..

Well after I purchased this camera at an ubelievable price of of only $229, I saw that more than half of the feedback at Circuit City's consumer opinions were negative. Others just loved it...it seemed that there was no in between. Well, I am that in between. Not long ago, these mini dvd recorders were very very expensive. Wow what a change. I happen to find an incredible deal but it seems to sell for around $400 on the average. After bringing it home and testing it out, so far so good. I do feel the color resolution to be a little weak resembling some the JVC units I have owned. Also, while relatively intuitive, there are several features that I will have to pull the book out to learn how to use...like taking a photo while filming...it seemed to be no brainer on other models but I just can't figure it out yet. Some options you just cannot get into possibly because of some automatic settings that I was using...However, it is very light, small, has an awesome zoom, large screen that is actually HD format like, it looks like a cross between the Sony and Hitachi. The battery life is a little on the low side so I purchased an extra one a Lenmar for less than $25 which was way less expensive than the Energizer being sold at other retailers ($50 to $80). I also popped a 2GB card in the media reader which is a multi format one (essentially SD and Memory Stick) not so much for the pictures that take a minimal sub-1 MP format (thousands of photos can fit on a card like this) but rather that you can film as MPEG 4 format allowing you over an hour of filming as an alternate to the mini DVD. I am still toying whether to purchase the 4 year extended service plan for the additional $100 since the camera was so inexpensive to beging with..Overall, for the price, no complaints so far...

Don't Buy!!!!

I got this camera for my wife at Christmas and has not completed one disc. It blanks the disc before you can fill it up. Now it will not recogonize and disc of any type. I was told by tech support to get Sony dvd's and that would solve my problem. It didn't work either. It has major flaws. The battery life is about 10 minutes if you are lucky. Samsung sent me a free battery and It is no better....

I was told by tech support to get Sony dvd's and that would solve my problem. It didn't work either. It has major flaws. The battery life is about 10 minutes if you are lucky. Samsung sent me a free battery and It is no better.

It deleted my little boys first soccer game and the second and the third... I kept trying. Now it won't recogonize any disc.

You do get what you pay for......

What a Waste.

Strengths: It's small and sleek.

Weakness: The view lens produces a very small picture. Doesn't format dvd. Always comes up with an error. SD slot is in a un-usually place. Strap on camera isn't study enough.

Well I purchased this camera this last month and before I did I made sure that I read up on the reviews. The reviews didn't seem that bad, basically this camera is meant for someone who isn't photo savy. Which I am not. I just want to take a picture and video that's all. I got this camera and it looked great when I took it outta the box but that was it. I turned it on and immediately there was an error already. I had my SD card in there and went to take still photo's and video. The video was very poor quality and grainy not to mention the still photo's were just as bad. It doesn't have a flash on it so that is another big problem. You can't just shoot anywhere, you have to been in a very well lite area, but then again you will probable get a poor quality photo. All in all I didn't like this camera. I'm better off buying a HD Camera or just a better digital camera that can store more video. This product isn't worth the price you have to pay.

Bad camera

Strengths: Small, USB port, nice LCD

Weakness: Error in program, low battery life

It just works with TDK discs if I use another brand disc I got an error and lost all the recorded video. Poor photo quality, and worst quality video at night. The battery lasts only 20 minutes. I am looking for a new camera
