Excellent Receiver

Strengths: Quality of surround separation, strength of radio reception, layout of connections, look of front panel, ease of setup & use, competitive pricing for the feature set & performance

Weakness: Very small issue depending on width of shelf unit - my receiver is slightly wider (by an eigth of an inch)than other components AND my shelf system - not a real issue - I relocated it to another spot.

Out of the box and set up & running in 15 minutes - one of the easier manuals & quick start guides to follow. This is an upgrade from my older Denon 60-watt unit & has so many more features. Excellent price (for a new unit) and buying experience via Pricegrabber - wasn't even aware of this site until searching the web. Would highly recommend this Onkyo. I bought primarily for theater surround and...

Great Receiver for a Great Price

Strengths: Low cost, Nice remote, Easy to use buttons, 3 Optical Audio Inputs, Excellent sound and plenty of power

Weakness: Large size, Heavy, Basic display, No HDMI, Needs alot of ventilation

This is an excellent home theater receiver for the price. I purchased mine to relplace an old Aiwa receiver and this is much much better. I use it with my original Aiwa speakers and they sound better than they did before. For the price, this system has a good number of inputs and outputs on the back. I was looking for a system that had 3 optical audio inputs and this was one of the only. I have...

onkyo receiver..great product in a great price

Strengths: clean controls..easy to use and universal remote that consolidates everything in 1 remote

Weakness: heavy and need space with other stacked electronic items...cant receivers be sleek ?

This is a great product in this price range..i tried Sony's earlier but this one has better quality output with great controls from remote. Also, I have used its remote to enable TV, DVD player so instead of multiple remotes I have just 1 remote..I highly recommend this product to those looking into this price and going for a cost effective receiver.

Onkyo TX-SR504

Strengths: 7.1 with 75W per channel & subwoofer out. Switches 3 component video and 3 optical audio inputs.

Weakness: Rear layout could be more organized. Busy, complex remote control.

I chose this Onkyo receiver after comparing it with the $200 and $300 offerings from others such as Yamaha, Sony and Denon. The most important feature for me was its ability to switch 3 component video and 3 digital optical audio inputs. It's a 7.1 receiver with 75W per channel and a subwoofer pre-amp output. However, I used to have a stereo receiver so I only have two bookshelf speakers and a...

Great Reciever

I purchased this receiver based on price, quality, and Onkyo's reputation for great sound. I am very happy with my purchase and would definately recommend this receiver to anyone on a budget. I am using it with KLH speakers. This quality receiver has many inputs (4 digital audio) and I am only using two of them. While I am no audiophile I do appreciate quality music and this receiver delivers.

Entry level Onkyo TX-SR504

Strengths: Solid build, good sound, relatively light, plenty of inputs

Weakness: Overheat, no Optical/Digital output, light on power

Overall very good receiver for the money. Unfortunately get overheat very easy so you need to keep it in relatively open space, there are no digital/optic outputs, no HDMI because it's an older model, no autocalibration and on-screen menu. The positive sides - very clear sound, easu to setup using just manual, plenty of inputs of any kind. I personally can recommend this unit for people who want...

Can't Beat This Receiver for the Price

Strengths: Clean finish, Dolby Digital EX 7.1, 4x SPDIF inputs, A-B Switching, xM Radio

Weakness: No HDMI (although a separate HDMI switcher isn't overly expensive)

Purchased this receiver based on a massive amount of positive opinions of several AV enthusiasts. Got it brand new for around $170, which is a bargain considering that this is what Onkyo normally charges for a recertified unit. Nice clean finish, great soundstage when coupled with Klipsch HT speakers, more connectors than you can shake a couple of sticks at and even XM radio support. The only...

Great Cheap Receiver

Strengths: 7.1 channels, ipod connection

Weakness: No HDMI

The SR504 receiver is a nice receiver for the price. It is a good choice for those who want to attach an ipod through the optional as-d2 dock and one who wants a cheap alternative to the expensive HDMI receivers out there. However, this receiver does miss HDMI connections. Overall, a great buy.

Onkyo TX-SR504

Strengths: Clean design and interface. Universal remote.

Weakness: Lack of HDMI inputs/outputs and auto-calibration of speakers.

An outstanding receiver at a very reasonable price. I purchased this unit based on Onkyo's good reputation for quality. I look forward to investigating all the features and options.

TX-SR504

Strengths: XM Radio HD Support, 7.1 Channel 75W per Channel, and a learning remote.

Weakness: No auto speaker calibration, No HDMI support, and no component-video conversion

For the price point you can't really complain. I looked at Denon, Sony, Yamaha, and finally this Onkyo. It sounds great! It powers my subwoofer just beautifully. Everything sounds so crisp and clear. I replaced a sony I kept having issues with. Onkyo has won my heart and mind and will be at the top of my list for future purchases. I watched FlyBoys and it sounds like I was next to the runway....
