Nice drive, but be careful

Strengths: Easy to set up and forget with aotomated backup software

Weakness: Seems prone to disk corruption

I bought this drive for my Apple iMac G5. After reformatting the disk for Apple OSX, it worked just fine using Apple's Backup software. The problem occurred when the computer locked up during an unrelated application and I was forced to reboot without first ejecting the drive. After that the drive would not remount. After many calls to Maxtor & Apple I just gave up and returned it. I ordered a...

Maxtor One Touch III External 300GB Hard Drive

Strengths: Very fast write speed (7200 rpm and 9.0 ms seek time). The appearance is extremely attractive with the two-tone green outer casing which is "rubberized" for a good grip if you need to move it.

Weakness: None discovered so far.

This unit has exceeded my high expectations. I'm using the Firewire 400 connection to my Apple iMac G5 and it has worked perfectly after initially reformatting it to the Apple Mac OS Extended (Journaled) system. Out of the box it is set up for the Microsoft PC system. My first 23 GB backup of my entire internal hard drive including the boot sector took 1 hr 12 min. A week later I did a routine...

Nice External Backup Drive

Strengths: good physical design one touch backup firewire 800/firewire400/usb2.0

Weakness: none

Bought this as a backup drive for my parents computer and was impressed at the ease of setup on a PC. We only needed it for simple backup to an external drive, which is done within the program we are running. I did play around with the backup software that comes with it, which allows you to back up a system, specified folder, etc. Program is pretty configurable and allows simple backup with one...

Good Product

Strengths: 7200 RPM speed makes it faster to read and write. Not too heavy.

Weakness: None discovered so far.

I recommend this product since 300GB holds enough of your storage, atleast for me it is good enough. The read and write is fast since it has 7200 RPM. It's quiet in running, like others I have seen sometimes make humming sound. I have been using it for 2 days but I like it. Good product for money.

Great product. Hated Pricegrabber

I have bought many drives over the years and this has got to be one of the easiest products to set up. And how can you go wrong with Maxtor?

Fast drive with solid casing

Strengths: Fast with both USB and firewire. Solid performance and sturdy casing. Some include a 320GB drive instead of 300GB.

Weakness: none so far

Good drive so far. I have not encountered drive failure that some people described. Fast drive with solid performance. The casing is very sturdy. Mine has a sticker which says 20GB bonus and has a 320GB drive inside.

Maxtor III 300GB External HD

Strengths: Duo Firewire 400/USB 2.0, Brand Name, stackable, ON/OFF switch, kinda good looking, stays cool, and silent

Weakness: would feel more comfortable with a longer warranty than 1 year

This is my second Maxtor II One touch that I'm currently using as a backup between my old computer to my new one. I don't use software backup programs. I'm a drag and drop what I need person. The idea of having both IEEE1394 (Firewire) and USB 2.0 makes it more versatile. Great for backing up, your photos, music, videos. They even give you an extra 20 Gigs

So far so good

Strengths: Very easy set-up.

Weakness: None so far.

I love that it is for mac or pc. Very easy step by step instructions for setting up. Quite large, but is fine with me....I don't plan on moving it around too often.

One Touch III External 300GB Hard Drive

Strengths: it's an external hard drive

Weakness: couldn't get the software to work correctly, and it constantly gave me an error when the backup was complete.

Also, I keep my taskbar on the left (rather than the bottom), and this is the only software I've ever had that buries itself under the taskbar (I know there's an auto-hide feature for the taskbar, but this is an annoyance). I eventually switched back to FREE back-up programs. Buy this hard drive ONLY if you want to pay extra money for software that doesn't work very well.

A pretty good drive

Strengths: Dual Connectivity, Easy to use, one touch backup

Weakness: Kinda big/bulk compared to other models

Overall I'm satisfied with this drive. I really only use it to link up to my laptop when I'm home. Not quite as small as the WD my book models but functionality is great. The one I purchased was "bonus 20gb" so it was actually 320GB.
