I bought this May 2004, and a few...
Strengths: Nice design, easy to use, nice button layout.
Weakness: Indoor quality isnt very good, video heads get dirty fast, digital zoom is crap.
I bought this May 2004, and a few months later it broke. It took Samsung at least 6 months to send me a new one and it has given me a few problems since then. I wouldnt reccomend this to anyone.

Good value for under $400 DV...
Strengths: Good value. Easy to hold. Memory Stick storage.
Weakness: display difficult to read in daylight, minimum zoom speeds too fast, still resolution quality could be better.
Good value for under $400 DV camera. The quality of the video was good, especially in daylight filming. Camera gets fairly warm during extended use periods. It would be nice if the stabilizer mode could be set to on as default. Optical zoom is good at 18x, but digital zoom to 900x is pretty much useless (very pixelated).

To compare picture quality one...
Strengths: Ease of use - most of the menu items are easy to use.
Weakness: Indoor picture quality is poor - very yellow picture unless a lot of lighting is used. I tried the white balance mode in several different settings and not one showed much difference.
To compare picture quality one must have a base line and mine is a Sony Analog 8mm camera - the only other camcorder that I've used. The Sony has a more true indoor picture quality than does the Samsung. I thought Samsung's web site may be of some help with improving the white balance but they either never had it on their site or took it off since most stores are now discounting it to rock bottom...

Just a showpiece. Do not waste your money on this. And their tecnical assistance - know nothing but arrogance. Samsung should close down this section or fire its technical people. It is just cheating innocent customers. Never venture towards another SCD model. It is just not one piece. Just check comments and reviews. They should all shriek Bad! Bad! Bad!
