Product Details of Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Description

Samsung's DVD-HD841 delivers scintillating video and audio performance at an eye-popping price. Between the unit's progressive-scan component-video and DVI digital-video outputs, sophisticated high-definition upconversion (from 480i/p DVD-Video to 720p, 768p, or 1080i, depending on your HDTV), and processing abilities for the audio-only SACD (Super Audio CD) and DVD-Audio formats, this player quite nearly does it all.The DVD-HD841 has a built-in video scaler that permits output to a HDTV. Samsung's video upconversion technology eliminates visible scan lines and artifacts arising from interlaced video and the 3:2 pulldown process required to render film-based movies as NTSC video. The result: higher resolution from conventional sources and sharper images with few motion artifacts. The player's DVI digital-video output may be used for lossless video transmission between the player and compatible TVs and computer monitors.SACD and DVD-Audio media both offer super-high-fidelity sound. DVD-Audio discs provide 192 kHz/24-bit multichannel and stereo sound, high storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. These discs often have compressed Dolby Digital soundtracks for listening on standard DVD players, but true DVD-A decoding is required for full sonic appreciation. Depending on the disc, Sony's proprietary SACD format provides multichannel and/or stereo sound, often presented in a dual-layer format compatible with both standard CD players (at standard resolution) and SACD-equipped players like the DVD-HD841 (for full-resolution playback).A set of stereo and a set of multichannel analog-audio outputs route audio from DVD-A/SACD media as well as from Dolby Digital- and DTS-encoded DVDs to your AV receiver. If you're not planning to use the DVD-A/SACD capability for multichannel programming, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for simpler connection with your receiver.

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: DVI

Weakness: Remote signal is weak. Remote has to be directly pointed at player

I have had this dvd player for about 7 months. I did not have any problems up until the last 2 weeks. I am now loosing my dvi setting when I power it off. The only way I can get it back is by using component cables. S-Video cables do not let me save the option for dvi.

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: Looks nice, good picture, has DVI output, Dolby 5.1 output

Weakness: Need for initial multiple video hook-up if you want to use DVI

I purchased this DVD player because I needed one that had progressive scan/ HD and it had the output that I needed (Dolby 5.1 audio since my reciever does not have an integral decoder, and DVI for video, which is supposidly higher fidelity than component video.) Anyway, in order to use the DVI output, you need to use the onscreen menu to activate it. There is an inherant problem here in trying to...

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: Basic operation is ok

Weakness: Its price is based on its DVI output which does not work correctly

Samsung has an excellent concept but has failed on the implementation. The roughly $200 price point is justified by the DVI output and the ability to interpolate up to 1080i. However there are two major problems. Firstly the design approach is flawed as while you can select among 4 different resolutions from the DVI output, the selection is NOT held after power down. Thus you have to reselect...

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: decent picture.

Weakness: just decent picture.

For those that are considering buying this DVD player please understand that I believe the quality of picture you will get depends on what you are hooking the player up to. I have a Hitachi HD 50v500 widescreen LCD. This television has a processor inside that upconverts a normal analog component input (for example a 480P signal) to virtual HD. Therefore on my previous progressive scan player, the...

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: Plenty of out puts. Has DVI and component video, plays cd, dvr's.

Weakness: none so far.

Plenty of people are complaning about loosing their settings when they turn off the dvd player. Well what i found to fix this problem for me is to along with the dvi conection is to also hook up a video out from the dvd to the tv. Now i don't have to go into the dvd players menu to select the dvi every time i turn it off.

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: Appealing bezel

Weakness: Cheap connectors, disks skip, settings will not stay, DVI will not work

I recently purchased the Samsung 841 for the price and for the fact it was one of the few DVI dvd players out that was under $200. Needless to say I will be returning it today. Unfortunately I read the feedback forums on this model after buying, and if I had read before purchasing, I would have never got this model. Here are the issues (some are already known): 1) Manual is horribly lacking - in...

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: Easy to use/ when it works

Weakness: Total piece of crap

This is the third one I have had to return. I have read on line that others have had the same problem. What has been happening is when you load a dvd disk it locks up and you are stuck from that point on. If you return it make sure you let them know the name of the dvd disk that is in there. This must be a ongoing problem with this player. I have owned many DVD players but this one has got to be...

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: It powers up consistently. The blue lighted display looks nice.

Weakness: The DVI setup is lost each time the unit is powered off. The composite video output works better than the DVI output. Sound from 5.1 channel SACDs and DVD-audio is only output to front two speakers.

As other reviewers have stated, the HD-841 DVI function is not designed properly and must have the setup parameters re-entered every time you turn it back on again. I was not that impressed with the DVI capability and found that I got a better picture using the composite video output. On the side of the HD-841 box it states that it plays 5.1 channel SACDs and DVD-audios in multichannel sound....

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: Great picture! Great looking DVD player.

Weakness: Does not include HDMI adapter.

I was concerned when I first hooked up the DVD player to my hdmi input using a dvi to hdmi converter since there was no video, only a blue screen. I had to hook up composite cable and change the DVI mode via the instructions. After this, the video was great! The player does upconvert to several modes. On my Panasonic 60 inch LCD projection set I am able to get 480p, 720p, and 1080i to work...

Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD Player

Strengths: Super buy. Save 40% from Best Buy and no tax. Samsung has a super product that improves DVD quality by 30% from progressive scan.

Weakness: 90 day warranty for the Refurb.

The picture quality is outstanding on my HDTV. Major improvement from my Toshiba Progessive Scan DVD Player. Super deal when comparing a Panasonic or Sony HD up-conversion DVD player. Outstanding value for the dollar.
